My Father took me to a game here just before it was closed. I also worked later at Loblaws and Tip Top Tailors which you can see in the background. This area is unrecognizable now.
I went to the stadium constantly in the early sixties. Summer days in a T shirt till dark and then freezing from the breeze off the lake. Wonderful memories of the Knothole Club with 50 cent admission, and numerous players like Steve Ridzik, Al Cicotte, Steve Demeter and Sparky Anderson. Toronto in the 60s.
When being torn down a quantity of seats were acquired and installed at Lakeshore Arena, where minor hockey was run by the Faustina Club. I played all my minor hockey there.
They demolished this stadium before I was born and I never even knew of it's existence until a few years back. I can only imagine what might have been if it was somehow salvaged and renovated to become home of the Blue Jays. I much prefer jewel box and old stadiums in general. This could have been baseball's version of Maple Leaf Gardens or Toronto's Fenway. Great footage in this video. Never thought that I would get to see a film clip of Fleet Street Flats in colour.

I would've liked to have seen the City of Toronto kept Maple Lead Stadium in shape and expanded it, if they needed too, instead of the Blue Jays playing at Toronto Exhibition Stadium, which essentially was a football stadium.
An enjoyable video! Am always interested in the history of the city. I would add that the TML baseball club still continues today, playing in the Intercounty Baseball League.
As time goes on more and more people will forget the Maple Leafs were also a baseball team. Of course we still have the Intercounty team playing out of Christie Pits.
@@TheJhn924 I meant the gas prices on the Esso he's standing in front of at the beginning of the video. Where Maple Leaf Stadium use to be. 1.21 for gas and 1.24 for diesel.

Amazing anecdote

For years I was curious about the specific location of the stadium and only in the last year realized that I had worked directly across the street.
Also hosted visiting rodeos -- that I remember! Thanks so much for uploading these gems -- each and every one.

Toronto Balmy Beach of the Ontario Rugby Football Union played home games at Maple Leaf Stadium for several years.

0:53 The "Tip Top Tailors" building in the top-middle of the photo still exists, apparently turned into condos/lofts.
Since the St, pats became the leafs The leafs should become The patties, or patsy's and a second MLB baseball team should be added to the city.
I don't miss those gas prices...
... of course the minimum wage in southern Ontario in 1965 was $1.00 per hour for men and $0.95 for women...

Feb 8, 2022 $1.60/litre CAD, $4.25/gal USD, $1.66/litre AUS.
No mention of Babe Ruth who played there for opponents when he was in the minor leagues.
That was Maple Leaf Park, not stadium. Also known as Hanlan’s point stadium. This was the newer one on the mainland.
