- Had the opportunity to check out a 2005 Lotus Elise! Such an amazing car and sounds incredible! I got into depth on the car, take it for a drive so you can hear the exhaust and absolutely would recommend buying this car or at least driving it for yourself to experience such an awesome affordable exotic sports car! This is definitely a small car on the interior, you are very close to the passenger seat, but driving it, it's just like a go-kart, very direct in the steering and while it doesn't have a lot of horsepower, it is light weight and handles extremely well.

I think that 'Chrome Orange' really works on this car. As for getting in & out - that's an unusual and quite important consideration for many 'overly-nourished' western drivers. These cars have such a low wet weight, that I suspect an extra 50 kg or so in the driver's seat would make a perceptible difference to both handling enjoyment, and overall alacrity. Stay trim guys !
Do you think the Average American is 50 kgs more than the Average European. Come on. I did a search, the average American weight is 6.5 kgs more than the average person in the UK. That's not gonna tip a car over.
@@Dan-cj9yg Hiya Dan and many thanks for your response to a long-forgotten post from five years ago ! You're most probably correct regarding the average weight differential between UK and North American drivers. To slip comfortably into any Elise, you need to be pretty narrow -hipped and limber to begin with, I'd say. So, young, probably. And the factory seats aren't renowned for comfort. This consideration alone would probably deter a fair percentage of potential customers on both sides of the 'pond'. And ponder this : as of this year, a full third of UK adults have sadly been classified as being medically obese. Many more are overweight. I wonder what Colin Chapman would have said ?

First off awesome ass color plus I love seeing cars like this demonstrating that it doesn't take much to get somewhat supercar specs without having to get big gas guzzling engines and pack it with electronic aids and still be practical at the same time
+Zavion That's one of the reasons I love this car. It's no more expensive than a Camry or Accord. And it still gets "normal car" MPG. Even though most people would think this is not a practical car, a lot of owners somewhat daily drive them. When I get mine I plan on driving it all the time!

there is no way to hardwire them in to the mirror. so its either built in or rear mounted.

Oh yeah! Makes it easy to maintain as well! I had the Evora with the Camry based engine and it was so easy to work on!
@@BrosFOURRSpeed I have the T-Sport Corolla with the same engine and I absolutely love it! Not the fastest car out there but certainly a lot spicier than a regular E120 Corolla.
Do people even complain about noise in a sports car? That's part of the fun!

@@lukesylvester2022 not yet, I bought a 370z for 24k. And right now I'm about to put a down payment on a house, so after that I'll save a bit more, sell the Z and buy one. It's still very much high on my list. Did take one out for a day test drive though to see how I fit. Really enjoyed it

"And of course your side view mirrors which easily show the side of the car." You just demonstrated to everyone how NOT to adjust side view mirrors. Side view mirrors are meant to be adjusted outward to the side to eliminate the blind spot. If you can see the side of your car, your mirrors are adjusted WRONG, and you are driving around with 3 rear view mirrors instead.
My elise has convex mirrors, so not sure if this does but if you don't see the side of the car you are looking 3 lanes over lol

@@ZimmFor3 I personally bought a very nice example for about $30k last year, it wasn't the cheapest but everything is pristine and it was at 43k miles (on a lotus esspecially, I dont want low miles because I drive my rides). either way its a great car and would recommend it to anyone under 5'10 haha

pro tip: do like I did...never buy a car unless it´s a Lotus...any other I´ve driven was either one my dad gave to me (and kept the insurance because he paid less) or daddy bought - thanks again dad and R.I.P.
...first came the VW Polo in red, then I went for a few years without a car, next was the second-handed BMW 320d... by the time I ruined it in a small crash (but ruined, no more ESP, dashboard is dark, mileage is wrong etc), I already had bought that S2S in white with some nifty addons like a start button and the letters on the back removed. Just took "her" out today and came back smiling...as always...

I'm about 5ft 11. The Lotus Elise is actually very roomy and I've known a few bigger guys who own these with no issue

Been appreciating ever since! I drove one when I was 16 and the dealer was asking $28k with 20k miles. Now similar ones are going for $70k. Should have bought one a few years ago
i have s serious question. If I accidently shift down while at a higher speed will the trans completely be destroyed or does the car protect It. Like downshift protection.

@@boot5672 2 years later I can proudly say I am a sim veteran😂 I’m on pc with a thrust master t300rs and a rift s. If you want to get into it a Logitech g29 is good for a start and pc is way better than console but use what you can afford
dont tell people there is proper visibility when its obviously flawed. this car needs convex mirrors as shoulderchecking is impossible. Also only the driver seat moves. All lotus have body colored mirrors. (lotus elise owner)
I get along just fine with mine (S2S 2001), have to move around a bit at crossroads but that is about it...and let´s be honest...I don´t do shoulder checks in any car (anymore) except in a few cases in which I just turn inward instead of outward...."situational awareness"^^...or one might just get one of these suck-o-mirrors that goes on the windscreen...my driver seat is in a fixed position now (max backward) as it tends to rattle once certain screws loosen up (over and over again) and it´ll be hell to tighten them over and over again

It might be a little tight, but getting in and out especially with the roof on would be tricky.

Keep in mind how light weight this Lotus is! Power isn’t everything especially with the weight! It’s a good power to weight ratio, but you can supercharge this or get the Elise S or Exige for more power!
I found a 2005 for only 7k but it looks good from the pictures. Do you think there might be something wrong with it?
noo its a nice deal, lotus elise are very affordable sports cars you can get them for around 10, 000 £ used
2005 models are going anywhere between 25K if you're lucky to low 30K. Finding one for 7K I would think has a salvage title or something, but check it out I could be wrong without seeing it.
Sounds like a scam. Maybe in Europe since they are more common but I still don't see it.

I seen one of these for sale for as much as i just got a 2018 mustang gt. Glad i went with the mustang tbh. This thing has an exotic look and is probably a blast to drive but really....190 horse🤨
Power doesn’t mean anything, when this Lotus weights under 2K pounds, it has plenty of power! Obviously not incredibly fast but one of the best handling cars available! With the supercharged version and 230 HP or so, it’s a crazy quick little car!

What's the stickiest street tires for a lotus
Depends on what you want to do. For spirited road driving and in the wet, Yokohama Advan AD07. This Lotus was designed with these tires in mind but there are other substitutes. Mine are great for the curvy roads on the way home out in the country. Turns most take at 50kph this car does easily at 80kph. It's what this car was made for. Great acceleration but leaves everything else behind in the turns. A true drivers car.

All of the Elise models are actually convertibles. The hard top pops right off with a few bolts. These cars are a ton of fun!

Not the easiest, but you get use to it. I'm 5'10'', it's much harder to get in than my Evora.

+Contane 21 I have played around with the payment calculator on Auto Trader, if you put $5k down, you are looking at around $300 a month. I think that's a great way to start out with an awesome car and build your credit as well.

the SC is a 2008 model+ 2005-2007 models are NA with a 2ZZGE from a Celica GTS
In the UK there were more models.
1997+ was a rover K series in various setups with the more powerful one being the 111r. 2002+ was the S2 with the same engine with more power (The K series S2 111r was the quickest Elise for a long time).
2004+ was the Toyota 1zz and 2zz (1zz was the S, the 2zz the R). The US only got a version of the R. The 1zz engine has no 2nd cam but a smoother power curve and nice low down torque, so is actually nicer to use on the road. Then later they added the SC which is supercharged.
Then that was it until 2011 when they changed the engine again and the S3 was launched. The base model became a 1.6 and was noticeably slower than the older cars due to added bloat.
Then in 2019 they launched another set of new cars. This time being much quicker all with 220+ HP.

+Alex Hackett Leg room is pretty good. I don't drive with the seat all the way back, so there is room for longer legs. I have about 2-3in of head room. So a lot will depend on your body proportions. But you can always take the roof off :)

the lazy people elise^^ powered windows and airbags....tsss...less weight, more fun! but that color...uhmmm nice
dont put anything heavy in the back, it may go through the mesh there...20kg max or so I´ve read
for older people, using the door sill as a butt rest (unless one is, uh, fat ...err I mean heavy-boned) is more comfortable, just lift out of the seat, do the butt rest thingie and swing around...nothing more humilating than falling out of your lotus, not everybody buys my "yoga" story^^
mirrors: go slowly on them whilst adjusting...there´s only one screw in there and one plastic cylinder, older cars may have worn out components and therefore are easy to break off completely, trust me, the fiddling around is a nightmare without proper tools (nothing the average joe has at home) once one came off
handling: very good on dry roads...but very hard to slow down on a rain soaked road, so go with caution
save your money just get an s2k
Sandzslik I have an s2k and thinking getting this car for the simple fact, everyone has an s2k. If you want to be like the rest, sure. But in my area, rarely see these. Haven't seen one for years actually.
