I highly suggest Harriet De Winton's books if you want to learn simple watercolor. Her technique is based on simple strokework and is an excellent starting place to learn basic water and brush control, layering, charging, etc. Better yet she has a YT channel called De Winton Paper Co. It's much easier to learn by watching. Be sure to get real quality cotton watercolor paper though, it's mandatory. Painting watercolor on cheap pulp paper is like trying to drive a car on flat tires, you can do it but it's a hot mess. Buy a pad of Arches, Baohong, or Langton Prestige and cut the pages in half. You can paint on both sides of good watercolor paper as well. You can get decent paint and brushes on a budget.
I understand your your collecting practices, and I completely understand. To be fair, the extra copies you have are precious. The copies may be out of print or impossible to source. Having a copy, you can make them available to people who are late to the game.
Lily you shouldn't have to justify your decisions to anyone. Its your life & your money. None of your regular viewers would entertain a negative thought about you. Negative people will always be negative and no matter what you or anyone says they will still find something negative to say. We all enjoy your videos thank you for taking the time to make them when you have so many other demands on your time. 😊
Loved this video and all your comments! I’m going to let some coloring books finally go to a happier home. TFS AND HAPPY COLORING in only books you enjoy 👍🏾😎!
I've just binge watched all your declutter vids because I like seeing people's colouring book collections and yours had the added nice bonus of decluttering. I love decluttering, I find it really cathartic, and like you I don't like collections of things. You kept or got rid of some things I would disagree with, but that was also fun to see someone else's take on the books I don't like or do like. Anyone triggered by you getting rid of things they would keep, should remember we don't all like the same things! Take no notice of people who have complained about you buying stuff and getting rid of it later, I think there are very few of us that don't do that about something or other. I have got rid of a few colouring books myself that I just don't like the style of and know I will never colour! Most of them were ones bought for me, and although they were kind gifts, there is no point keeping them if I will never even look at them. I am a firm believer in what William Morris said about never having something in your home that your don't believe to be beautiful or know to be useful. The colouring books you got rid of still served a purpose, they made you happy to have them at one point, it's just your opinions on them changed! Fun videos and greetings to a fellow Londoner!
Yes! I'm in agreement with William Morris too, only keep what you love or find beautiful 🥰 Whereabouts in London are you? Roughly, don't give me your full address 😆
You absolutely don't have to justify what you spend your own, hard earned money on Lily. Our tastes change in colouring the same as in music etc. I think it's so bad that people feel they can say mean things to others. I enjoy your videos and have learned a lot about different books, mediums, etc. Keep up the good work ❤❤
Once upon a time I was minimal-ish too. Having moved SO many times, both with my parents and since getting married, I didn’t hold onto much “stuffs!!” Since buying our “forever home” nearly 25 years ago, I have “stuffs” and, like most of “us” bought during the pandemic 😷 I sit and think of the poor person that has to go through it all when I’m no longer here. Thank you for doing this series Lily 🤗 🤗
I've had to go through and sort two houses when people have left the planet; one was a hoarder and one was a normal life lived. Both had collections (I recall a suitcase under the bed full of brand new, in their packages "nylons" still with their two shilling price tags on them; I guess they were a stockpile from after a time when they were previously scarce.) After sorting out the hoarder house, it totally changed my mindset to stuff, I didn't want to go through life with everything I ever bought tucked away somewhere! Like you before this house (23 years lol) I had very very little. Never even had a hobby then! 🥰
❤ As a minimalist (minimal-ish) from another hoarding family and an artist, and a new colorist, your declutter videos have been my absolute favorite to watch! Thank you for sharing with us. I enjoyed watching you make your choices based on the level of enjoyment you anticipated they would bring you or had already brought you. No judgment here. Only you know the true value of your things. And whether or not keeping them brings you joy. No one else can truly determine that.❤

What a fun journey to watch! Thank you for sharing it🥰 the bleedproof paper in the markerbooks means that they won’t bleed over the lines, so easy to color in🤗there is less flowing/spreading of ink on the paper, but it will still go through the paper💕
Wow you did so well with your declutter! You are now left with all the books you really love! It’s been good fun watching as I’ve discovered books I ‘need’ too lol 😂 ❤
I’ve really enjoyed watching this series - I enjoy colouring but it’s not my main hobby and not only has it been very satisfying watching someone declutter, but I’ve also learnt a lot about colouring books and artists and added a couple to my list for future purchase! (I’ve got my eyes on those pattern marker sheets from this ones! And I’d never heard of watercolour books like that so now very curious to check them out!) I’m glad you’ve now got shelves of books that make you want to colour in them, and I look forward to seeing what you create in them. :)
I really enjoyed this video series! Thank you for sharing the curation process. As far as I am concerned, it's your choice as to what you buy, enjoy and keep. I think it's really unfortunate that some people feel the need to make unnecessary, negative comments.
Lily, there is no need to justify what you buy or don't buy or what you keep or don't keep! Just wanted to let you know that you have inspired me to declutter my coloring books, woohoo! I will be giving my granddaughter the ones that she wants, so they will be going to a new home. Thanks for the inspiration and thanks for sharing!
I restrict myself from over collecting by limiting the number of things, not necessarily the purchases. I have two shelves for my books, and three for pencils/markers etc. They are pretty much full. I can buy anything I want but if I do, something old has to go. The only thing allowed to "grow" into another space are books/pages that are fully completed. It really makes you think before you buy, and helps to keep the items you don't actually use going on to someone who will. I also never allow myself to impulse buy.. if I want a new book or supply (that isn't something I actually need like a basic supply I legitimately ran out of) I save a link to it on my computer.. and it has to sit there for two weeks before I let myself buy it. 8/10 times by that time I don't actually want it anymore. I used to have a major problem with buying things that were on sale, but I nipped that several years ago by simply not buying from sales anymore.. I don't browse, I don't let stores email me. If I want something I pop it in a search bar and go find that thing. If I see it's on sale, great. If not I will either wait and check again in a week or pay regular price.
I’m so glad that you are true to yourself, nobody has the right to make you feel bad for what you do or don’t do, it’s really not for them to say what truly brings you joy. Hope you have a wonderful holiday.

That was a lot of work but hopefully you will enjoy what you kept so much more now. You have & had so many (old) books that were new to me, some look really nice too. It feels like you have better sources for coloring books in the UK but maybe it's just that I don't go to enough stores lol. I don't think I have as many coloring books as you did but I do have more than I think I can ever color so there must be quite a few I should get rid of. Some day......
I guess my collection built up over 20+ years (but obviously with the bulk bought in the last 3) so there are some really old ones. I used to colour before it was considered an adult thing to do 😆 It's crazy when I think how many I had... it didn't feel like I had that many! Since downsizing my collection, I have coloured every day and am loving the hobby again! Enjoy yours! 🥰
@@ArtJourneyUK It didn't look like you had that many when you started, and doesn't feel that so many are gone either. I am glad that narrowing it down to your favorites has made it more fun again. And very glad that you feel well enough to color too.
@@colorcrazy2944 You have to bear in mind there were books squirrelled away just about everywhere... lol! I think that's why I was feeling so overwhelmed, little stacks of books *everywhere* 😅
Definitely! I did start the process, sorted like with like and got so many "how much stuff!" comments that I hid away in shame! (Sorry for the late response, the youtube notifications of comments don't always notify me!)
If you wish to play with the "instant watercolor" technique some more all you need is some decent watercolor pencils. Get yourself a nice piece of cardstock and scribble some sections of color onto it. You can then pick it up with a wet brush and paint away. It's great for kids so they can paint with less mess.. or for travel when you don't want to carry paint with you. You can simply dispose of the paper palette when you are done. I used to adore those magic paint books when I was small.. back then they had little dots of dry color in each section of the image.. now they have figured out how to make them clear until they are wet which is even cooler. FYI I looked up that artist you liked from the magic paint books.. she mostly illustrates books for small children but she does have one coloring book.. it's called "F@#$ off, I'm adorable" and is full of swearing which is hilarious considering her usual career in early childhood books.
Phew! What a massive effort, you got there in the end! As you know, you have inspired me to take action with my own situation and I thank you for that ❤ It is so much easier as an impartial outsider looking in on someone else’s situation to say what they “should” do with stuff, but it is not that simple when there is an emotional involvement with it. What you said about a £5 investment in a book being about the totality of the experience (and not just the book itself) and being good value makes sense, and makes it easier to make some decisions while I continue to approach my own decluttering. My thoughts have turned to why I buy it in the first place and considering alternatives to satisfy the need for acquiring things to fill a void - it’s a challenge but I’m working on it 😊 I love your honesty and humour Lily!
Aww thanks Jackie and well done on your achievement! I know why I buy.. generally tired after work and needing "a fix". It's so easy just to scroll, click, buy. If I had to get a bus into town and bring all this stuff home I definitely wouldn't have so much! Enjoy what you have! 🥰
Lily, why do you let those people get to you? Id probably fell the same. Do you think addressing them in your videos will make them stop being rude? Maybe it will, maybe it won’t. But I know getting worked up just causes you more stress. It does me. It’s your money, your choices, your stuff, your fun. Be confident in that and enjoy! Blessings, dear friend!
I don't get worked up about it Leslie, I just think it's unnecessary. Rude people will always be rude! I have no stress in my colouring world, I get enough stress at work in the real world 😅 so for me colouring is my relaxing space. 🥰
@@ArtJourneyUK Well good. Im glad youre not worked up. Coloring relaxes me too. It’s therapy for me! Maybe we can do a buddy color some time! Have a great weekend!

I’m entertained for about 2 hours for that price.
I then think about the item I’m considering buying and how much time of joy it will as a minimum give me for the money I have to pay.
If I get more time of fun/joy/entertainment etc. for the money spent, than a movie theater ticket, then it’s usually worth it to me 😂
When it no longer brings me joy or add positivity to my life, it needs to go, or it will just become clutter that sucks away my energy and joy.

Aww thanks Jackie and well done on your achievement! I know why I buy.. generally tired after work and needing "a fix". It's so easy just to scroll, click, buy. If I had to get a bus into town and bring all this stuff home I definitely wouldn't have so much! Enjoy what you have! 🥰
@@ArtJourneyUK yeah, I do feel Amazon and home delivery in general has made it so easy to overbuy 🙄 😉
Hi hun love your videos I'm just curious what do you do with all the colouring books that you complete I just through mine away
I've not completed one yet.
Where did you purchase the small coloring books? Nice collection! Thanks for sharing ❤
Which ones my lovely?
The small ones you started the video with. There is one with dogs and other with a girl that you zoomed in.
❤❤❤❤❤
❤
What you do with your things is your business and why are people watching a decluttering video so they can gripe about it?😂 I enjoyed your video and am going to do this myself.
Ooo good luck! Enjoy what you love, let go of what you don't 🥰
