  • The Portuguese Cast-On is both a very cool technique, as well as an easy PURL-WISE long-tail CO. Unlike other long-tail cast-ons, once you finish the CO, you're ready to work a right-side row.

    I don't know why I'm watching this, as Portuguese is the only technic I know, but the way you explain is so nice...
    I don't cast like you, I start with the first loop on my left needle and then using the right needle I increase as many stitches as I need do start.

    It's my favourite cast-on and I use it in any project, even when I knit with other knitting styles!

    Omg! Every time I see the cubics platina and the marblz sets (or any KP set really), I think I look like the "in love emoji" -> 😍 my eyes turn into hearts.
    It's like Knitter's Pride is the Tiffany & Co. of the knitting world. Those sets are like jewelry to me 😍

    Thank you so much for this video. I watch several of your videos and you're a very good instructor - -everything is so clear! I struggle with keeping tension with my fingers for the english method and this portuguese style is much easier for me and my hands. Thank you again!!

    Is it possible to do a German cast on Portuguese style? I saw you do this on your toddler raglan sweater. It looked so neat! Thanks!

    Hello Staci!
    Would you recommend this cast on for the flicking style?
    Just yesterday afternoon I started knitting a cowl using the flicking style (inspired by you I must add) it's been a slow process since continental is how I learned. And I'm also using circular needles :) I'm finding it really comfortable and it does not get my fingers "numbed" after a while the way it happens when I knit in continental style.
    thank you!

    • @verypinkknits
      @verypinkknits  7 лет назад +1

      Yes - you can set yourself up for Portuguese knitting, complete the cast-on, then switch your working yarn back around to knit in the flicking style, no problem.

    How about a magic cast on for toe-up socks knitted inside out Portuguese style? I know -- or I think I know -- that I've knitted something tubular, stranded knitting, inside out some years ago. And now I need to revisit that due to arthritis. I suppose I could just knit the socks top down, but if that cast-on can work for knit, surely it can work for purl, too? And I don't mean the long tail one you've so kindly provided us, but whatever you call it, Turkish cast-on, Judy's magic cast-on -- aren't they all similar versions of a provisional cast-on that works for toe-up socks? I've tried and tried, but I can't figure it out.

    COOL! I just noticed the cable for your Marblz. It looks like a thinner version of Denise. Are these cables hollow tubes of plastic/nylon/??? or are they coated metal, like the others? I wish I had the money to buy a set of KP's. I LOVE the sampler I got, and am partial to the cubics. Thanks, again, for the cool videos.

    • @verypinkknits
      @verypinkknits  7 лет назад +2

      The Knitter's Pride cables are solid (not hollow), and pretty much the perfect combo of flexibility and slickness. This video is sponsored by Knitter's Pride, but even when KP isn't sponsoring me, I choose to use their needles. (I only promote products that I truly love.)

      Thanks! I keep hoping I'll open my mailbox and find a set, but SS just doesn't stretch that far, and a .03% raise is ridiculous! Thanks, again, for the videos. I'm really excited about the Portuguese knitting. are you going to post the vid of the Portuguese lady?

    • @verypinkknits
      @verypinkknits  7 лет назад

      No, I won't be posting the little video the gal sent me from Portugal...she sent it for my eyes only, and it's too low-resolution to include in one of my RUclips videos.

    • @bikrgran
      @bikrgran 7 лет назад

      OK, Thanks! I hate low res videos, so that's cool. Now back to my "new" knitting machine for a while.

    hey liked your way of casting on but is slitly different from the way.I learned with my grandmother and normal portuguese woman do but liked it. thought the way I learned its faster and doesnt involve the hook or putting the line arround you neck.

    I hang out and knit alone, so I'm not familiar with sets like the marbles. My needles are custom, though. 1 mm wide stainless steel dpn, which people really like to inspect. So I get wanting aesthetically pleasing needles. What are, in your opinion, the prettiest needles, the most unique needles, and the most useful needles?

    what are some of the benefits of casting on purlwise?

    • @fredr9632
      @fredr9632 7 лет назад +2

      If you are going to knit the first row and do stockinette, the first two rows will not look like garter stitch.
