Xenosaga II's Opening is Really Good, Actually

- I might really dislike Xenosaga II (mostly for the gameplay and sidequests, story is still just as good as the rest of the series), but even I can admit that the opening is very good. Also, when I say I don't like it, it's mostly by Xeno standards, it's average as a JRPG in general, but when it's in this series I expect something on a way higher standard.

The music from this series hits the heartstrings hard.
That yuki kajiura
I mostly play Xenosaga II for the story. Despite its flaws the combat system is interesting and I kind of like finding the weaknesses of enemies even though it can get frustrating at times.
THANK YOU
I used to dislike the combat system but after awhile and learning it more, exploiting weaknesses was probably my favorite thing about the game. It's fairly easy if you have each character stock at least once or twice and then utilize different attack combos to figure it out, and even so it doesn't take that long, in my opinion, and defeat regular enemies in less than a minute or two. Not only that, I think spells were much more important in this game than the episode I.
@@crzymage Agreed.
@@crzymage Xenosaga 2 is basically a lesser smt game lol
This seriously Xenogears and Xenosaga is all about the story first hell I would say it puts its story first more the FF.
Honestly, I like Saga 2 better than 1. And I mean it. While it definitely had flaws with designs and gameplay, 1 wasn’t exactly polished either. And it still had so many positives. A good conclusion to several plot points that started in 1. A story that connected to me personally. It also being Yuki Kajiura’s first step into Xenosaga. Which would give us many great songs throughout this game and Saga 3. It had it’s misses, but I loved the ride
Funny thing is, Xenosaga EP. 1 & 2 we're supposed to be one whole game if you can believe that.
The lost years (I believe it's called) was supposed to be the Episode that came after which would've made Episode 3 so much less confusing with everything that was thrown at us in it.
I replayed and beat this recently. I got up to the scene where chaos and Canaan meet Rubedo. Couldn't put it down after that. The intro is so sick. Sweet Song leitmotif intro followed by Assault (which is later reprised in the Miltian conflict in XS3, in the form of Assault #2). Talk about sick.
Ayo, thank you for puting this xeno content out ^^
Actually the second half of Xenosaga 2 is really good in your ES. Music is also fantastic.
I agree, the opening is pretty great
5:20 - I lol at that joke.
Replaying the trilogy right now and i can certainly witness and compare the games altogether, something i never did at first as i never replayed any of them.
XS2 make you master its battle system the hard way. Halfway in the Subcounscious domain, you are heavily punished if you dont.
I honestly never really understood the hate for Xenosaga 2. The only complaint I really had in comparison to the other Xenosaga games is the art style change. 3 is definitely the best but I have a much harder time replaying Xenosaga 1 than Xenosaga 2.
My impressions of Xenosaga II so far have been "amazing music, tripped up gameplay and story"
...so exactly my type of game lol
I love sweet song so bloody much
You know it bro. Song is tear worthy
I'm playing through the trilogy for the first time and I'm near the end of Episode 2. Why does everyone hate it so much..? I've liked it about as much as the first. I don't even really mind the art style change that much personally.
Ep 1 is only of my all time favs and my fav Xeno game. In 2 some of the VAs were changed for the worse. Kajura tracks are great, but the non-Kajura tracks weren't. I liked the graphics/character design better in 1. Takahashi fired during development of 2. All in all tho a decent game. XS3 now, while some people love it was IMO gutter trash w/ the exception of some awesome Kajura tracks.
Anyone remember xenogears
Hell yeah we do.
Xeno fans never forget about Xenogears.
This ain't the persona fan base lol
Never played the saga series but I hear the story is great and the gameplay of I and III is really good. I would love to experience the series for myself someday.
Nice video. Are you going to do a full video detailing thoughts of the trilogy story?
What do you think Pyra/Mythra told rex at the end ??
Eh I think the opening is just okay other than that one shot with the Asher launching. What's really good about it though is the music. Xenosaga 2's Cutscene Sountrack is one of the best soundtracks in the series, ingame has some decent music but it's really meh or ear grating for the most part. The really cool thing about this opening is the music was recorded like it's one continuous song. "In the beginning, there was..." is what plays during the title screen then it goes into "first meeting" as the game starts, then it's "Xenosaga 2 opening theme" and then "Assault" and Assault closes off with the leitmotif from first meeting and in the beginning, there was... I highly recommend fans listen to the entire cutscene soundtrack for this game as it's got some really amazing music in it by Yuki Kaijura. I honestly prefer it over Xenosaga 3's but that mostly because Xenosaga 3's sountrack is a little less bombastic and it has a lot of songs that are kind of filler, they are definitely better than the in game music in Xenosaga 2 by a long shot though. Oh and listen to "My Long Forgotten Cloistered Sleep" from Xenosaga a Missing year as well.
Also I'm a little weird but the more I play episode 2 the more I think the character battles had some really good ideas that unfortunately weren't executed well. Heck quite a bit of the concepts from this battle system ended up being a part of Xenoblade's combat, break, topple and launch being the most obvious. The E.S. battles on the other hand are probably my least favorite combat segments in the series. They are just flat out too simple and way too boring whereas the character battles had way more strategy to them. Though I think the worst aspect of the game is undoubtedly the side quests. Holy cow these are just flat out boring and nonsensical. I do kind of remember the post game being kind of good though and I think the bosses in this game are pretty well done and challenging, except the final battle with Albedo wow that was a bad final boss.
i agree, i love this intro so much
This is the best game in the trilogy
Xenosaga 2 is an amazing game as long as you take out the gameplay.
Yes!! I love xenosaga ❤️❤️❤️
I honestly prefer the artstyle in 2 to the one in 1 for most characters, the big problem for me is the voice acting which took quite a dive with the new actors not being as good as the old ones.
Your "jenseits von Gut und Böse" isn't that bad, the only larger mistake is, that the j in "jenseits" is actually pronounced like the y in yes, not like the g in generation. Also the u in "Gut" should be a bit longer.
Yeah. Honestly was surprised that he for all intents and purposes nailed the o umlaut but didn’t get the jot. I would imagine ö is a lot harder for a non native speaker to get right than j, since the hard y a common sound in English.
I had a look, and they seem to have used motion capture for pre-rendered cutscenes like the Jin vs Margulis fight. How common was motion capture back then?
The opening theme is just sublime. I just don't feel the story had yet built enough emotional gravitas for the theme to truly resonate. It would've been perfect for Xenogears though.
I actually love Episode II as a whole. It feels like a double edged sword. Story-wise I think it’s the weakest of the trilogy. I think the pacing is deniably better for a Xenosaga game, but some story beats kinda feel like filler. Like the Ormus Stronghold. It’s one of my favorite dungeons in the game, partly bc of the music alone, it’s the first time you have your full party, etc. storywise it just feels like filler.
It introduces E.S.s in full, which are soooooo much better than A.G.W.S. It introduces us to Jin more extensively than a brief scene in the first game, one of my favorite Xeno characters. (Then again, pretty much all playable characters in any Xeno game I’ve played are my favorite. Props to Monolith for great casts of characters.)
This is an ultra hot take but I think episode II has the best battle system in the trilogy. Episode III is excellent as well, having better E.S. Battles, but the vague tutorial is the worst part of the battle system in Episode 2. It encourages using analyze, shuffling your party around to hit enemy weaknesses, which is a big thing for me in RPGs. You need to change up your build, and think about what ether spells to use, and I love it.
I even like the art style change… for FMVs at least. I think the FMVs surpass some of Square’s work at the time. In-engine cutscenes…. Yikes.
My biggest gripes with the game are the voice actor changes (at least the ones who only voiced those characters for this game), the loading times, G.S. Campaign quests, and as mentioned earlier, in-engine cutscenes. Still love the game tho.
I've been looking for all rare blades summarized in a few words or less and I cant find it for some reason where is it
I played the Xenosaga trilogy once and enjoyed it a lot. Today I just rewatch the cutscenes gathered as movies, and that shit is still may better than most series in streaming or tv. But the gameplay is not very good, so I wouldn't replay this the trilogy unless they release a remake or something like that.
I may be in the minority here but I liked the redesign for some of the characters in 2.... I also found it to be better than the first because it had a better balance of gameplay to cutscene.
4:27 you should be sorry... ok no you shouldn't. it wasn't too bad, but the j in Jenseits is pronounced like an i. The rest was pretty good for someone who doesn't speak german.
The J is more so pronounced like the letter "y" in English, like the word "yes" for example.
I just got to playing this game. I finished the first some a few days ago and I'm currently on the part shion meets up with Jin.
So far I like the battle system but God those models, chain in voice/voice acting and audio levels especially in battle is so off putting.
Hopefully I magically get 160$ to get part 3
The best things about Xenosaga 2 are the music, the cutscenes, and the fact that the combat system as godawful as it is can be viewed as a forerunner of the much, much better Xenoblade combat system.
@Hkg 1 no, no, I'm entirely serious. The cinematics are generally good even if the voice acting and character models in Xenosaga 2 are godawful, as is the music specifically in cutscenes. The system of Breaking and "Air" ing enemies can also be seen as a forerunner of the Break/Topple/Launch/Smash system. The _rest_ of the combat system can die in a fire though.
All franchise had the little bad opus.
For Star Is the 9 for xenosaga is the 2.
Is it a bad bad game, a bad good game, or a good bad game?
It is so jarring going from 1 to 2 and everyone looks like they've been replaced by fakes. The stiff voice acting don't help with that feeling either.
Honestly I think 2 is better than 1 aside from the bad voice direction and weird art style changes.
I prefer chaos desing in 2 just because his hair in 1 looks terrible
First comment yes
Im roughly 2 hours in momo and kosmos are horrendous jr and khaos are bad but not terrible redsisigns and shion is also bot great but why chanhe everybody but keep ziggy exactly the same..
I like xeno 2 🤷♂️
I think wii xc1 looks worse than Xenosaga 2
