Why should a team most tip to get a Champions League spot, a team that is winning the transfer window, a team that has signed a team of top football experts, not believe that they can get 2nd or 3rd? It's not like saying a newly promoted team is going to do it! Last season we were plagued by injuries (and still, unlike Arsenal, won a trophy) and now we have a stronger squad and will likely get Ugarte to add to it, in addition to our young talent breaking through and those that broke through a year or two ago are still improving, getting closer to their peak.
It takes time. You can't just click and challenge. You still have Ten Hag and a lot of old players like Casimiro.

If Fulham still had Paulinha in midfield they win or draw that game last night. Fulham were far too open and disorganised in midfield and when the game started to get away from Fulham late they needed someone to just settle the players down, be organised and disciplined but instead they got caught out and Utd took full advantage - as they tend to do.

United had 4 clear as day chances, and Fulham had 2/3 breakaways where they played the wrong pass. I was at the game and it felt like a good performance overall, just missing the chances that would change the whole complexion. If Bruno takes one of those chances in the first half, I think United kick on and win the game comfortably.

To be fair, we've finished 2nd twice with squads worse than this.
We can't possibly be as bad as last season and there's a completely new structure in place which has lifted the spirits of the entire club from top to bottom.
I'd say we're cautiously confident this season.
As for ETH, he's the manager. Ruud is the coach.
ETH is the one that brings everything together.
Sir Jim has backed him, and for the first time since Sir Alex left, we (almost) have a squad entirely made of of players the manager wants.
My main worry is Onana and Hojlund. Maybe Zirkzee has solved one of those problems.
But Onana.... he can cost us more points than he wins us.
Or he can be the best in the league.
That was at a time before there was more competition for the top places. Now even clubs like Villa and Newcastle can compete and outperform the likes of Man United over the course of a season. It will be MUCH more difficult for Man United to claw their way back into the top 4 this season (and the seasons going forward).
