  • I Taut I Taw A Puddy Tat (Livingston-Foster-May) by Mel Blanc, orchestra conducted by Billy May
The first on-screen pairing of Looney Tunes’ battling icons Sylvester and Tweety (both voiced by Mel Blanc) occurred in the Oscar-winning 1947 animated short named “Tweety Pie.” More cartoons and various popular children’s records ensued, including this top-10 mainstream hit single, built upon Tweety’s famous catch-phrase.
Since 1947, the song’s conductor and co-composer Billy May had been arranging and directing the music for Capitol’s highly successful line of kids records (Bozo, Bugs Bunny, Sparky, Rusty, Little Toot, Hopalong Cassidy, etc.), but it was in 1951 that his distinctively new big band recordings (with those ‘slurping saxes’) would first attract the attention of record buyers.
THE 1951 HITS ARCHIVE - here in one place, a good-quality library of original-release-version best-sellers and songs that made an impact that were either released or enjoyed a major chunk of their popularity within the calendar year 1951 (some were recorded in 1950). .

This is the first time I've encountered this original, composed by orchestra leader Billy May. I listened hundreds of times to a cover version by Danny Kaye on one of his early 1960s children's records.

I remember seeing this as sheet music on a neighbors piano way back in 1955, and not hearing it until today.
