  • This is an image of when we visited the "Matsubara" Dam, which was just completed in 1972.
The Chikugo River basin was flooded and severely damaged by the great flood in western Japan in June 1953.
As a hydraulic control measure, the national government planned to construct two multipurpose dams, "Matsubara" Dam and "Shimouke" Dam, upstream of the Chikugo River.
However, the feelings of the country and the local people were misunderstood, and the "hachinosu" castle dispute arose.
Twenty years after the flood, the "Matsubara" and "Shimouke" dams were completed.
Both dams are still doing a great job in 2022.

    松原ダムも下筌ダムも、本当に立派ですよね。
    このような巨大構造物が建造したのが半世紀前だなんて、信じられません。
