@@Michael_B82 From what I've read, static stretching is actually more detrimental before a workout. Note, if you are about to play a full football game or something, definitely static stretch as well to reduce the probability of injury. But for a typical workout, static stretches will just inhibit your muscles' ability to contract quickly and effectively. Essentially, it reduces their "springiness," like an overly stretched rubber band. Dynamic stretches are the way to go before typical workouts.
I own a tree service so I climb trees often and have been sore but this video made me realize I've only been static stretching so this video is incredibly important Thank You
Dynamic stretches are good for dexterity but it's been shown that it decreased your performance with weight training because it's over stretching you, so mild static is better. But either way most stretching should be done after weight lifting or before cardio.
There are at least 2 problems with that study. First, 31 is too small for a sample size. Second, the average age for the study was 17.5 years old, which means the results would only be valid for teenagers. In addition to those problems, I have questions about statistical methods used. For example, for a sample size of 31, did they use nonparametric statistical methods or parametric methods?
@Blake-pn6xm Basically, while the results are definitely true (dynamic stretching is better at reducing muscle tears than static stretching before a workout), the study he references was only done on a small group of people who are relatively young, which decreases the validity of their claims bc the results may not necessarily be applicable to the general population. Other studies with larger sample sizes have definitely proven the benefits of dynamic stretching, its just that he picked a shitty study to reference for this video 🤷♀️
Hate to break it to you but those girls didn’t post that video to show any kind of stretch or technique. They posted it to show off their good hair day and new gym shorts
when I first started track, I would get so nervous before the 800. For all the people who have ran the 800 you know why I would be nervous before that race. It’s literal death. So out of anxiousness I would stretch so much. 20 and even 30 minutes. my 800 Coach came up to me and gave me this theory. He said that our muscles are like rubber bands. If you put a rubber band in each finger and stretch it out and hold that rubber band there for an extended period of time it gets loose. It loses its pop. Even though the 800 is long distance race, it’s still a sprint. From that day that’s how I looked at all my stretching, and it has made me a better runner and athlete overall.
Small sample to actually conclude anything, but it's hardly a surprise that moving your body instead of holding it in a static stretch, improves the ability to move your body.
I know everyone joking about men of culture n all that but this girl in the vid I follow and she’s genuinely an elite athlete. Her strength and mobility in what would be compromising positions for most is truly impressive.
This is in line with what I've seen and read about stretching from experts and other studies. Static stretching lengthens muscles, and is best performed on fully warmed muscles, ligaments, and tendons, so nothing tears. For the best mobility, you need flexibility, strength, and agility, so using dynamic stretching to warm up is a good idea.
Most important part about stretching is to never cross your limit! Stretching should NEVER hurt if it doesn’t you need to push less hard or maybe bend your leg a little for example. And do your stretching like a meditation, I learned this through yoga and since that it feels like I have got a new body
