watching this in 2023 is so strange. So much has changed since then. Viewing AOE2 without DE, without captureage with sloppy dark age etc etc.
But still, with Viper and Daut (and even a Daut-Castle!)
Loving it!

This is the kind of thing that made me such a fan of Daut. He's always coming up with these unexpected, meta-breaking strategies and unit choices and executing them so nicely.

Man, for that lumbercamp he wasn't looking for efficiency, he was looking a for a ''breaking the meta'' design. Decoration and marketing is the key for winning.

normally I like those "deep" lumbercamps a lot because even after chopping a bunch of trees they are still very efficient as there is so many trees close to them. This lumbercamp, however .... let's just say, it was a tad TOO "deep" 11111
Daut will always be a great, brilliant and genius player of all time...he is crazy brilliant with fundamental ideas normally no one think of...there is a reason Daut has crazy fan base even though he is not very talkative and he does crazy stuffs every now and then.

Spirit of the Law made a video showing that you actually get more food by finishing your sheep/Turkey first, so that was the right play.
The boar was at ~70 food. You get more total food by reducing decay amount (boar decay slightly faster, so not just decay time) and the shepherds killed another turkey before the boar finished. If it a good move by the player, it was because they didn't trust themselves to retask the villagers as soon as they finished the boar.
Indians are really shining out in this tournament. I feel it's the one of the best choice of civ for a well-rounded player with a universal style, which one can surely say that Viper and DauT both are.
India has got pros in aoe scene? player names?

zak i'm pretty sure it's just fine to take the sheep instead of the boar. there is a video by spiritofthelaw explaining why it increases the food income overall. (if you need food ASAP to click up to feudal then you would be correct, but that was not the case here!)

2:14 look at the bad placement of the wood, notice an idle villagers from 2:14 for viper and It going to get worse when more villagers are going to be send to collect wood, notice at 3:05 there is still one idle villager, 3:27 still the case :o

pro tip, if the series is only two parts that gives away that somebody won both, you could upload a thirty minute part 3 just to throw people off so it doesn't give it away, just have it be a thumbnail or something

I believe he is talking about the previous series, where viper 2-0'd slam, and since there is only 2 videos, watching who wins the first one kinda spoils it :/ This is the eternal struggle when you have to watch the replays instead of watching it live
But the problem with that is, if they upload 3, you already know that whoever lost the first game, won the second, otherwise that round would be over, ya know? It wouldn't make that much of a difference.
The Onderonian your wrong and not getting it the third upload is a blank meaning that the game was won 2-0 and the third upload is so that you don't know who won. your saying it as if it went to game 3. this only went to 2 games but if you put the max playable games uploaded then it maintains the mystery.
Technically, you will end up with more food taking the turkey first, when both the turkey and the boar are rotting under the TC... However, the food does come in much slower, and for the extra 5-10 food gained, generally it's not worth it.

They didn't harvest the turkey first. The boar was at ~70 food remaining, so they probably had most or all villagers on boar, then switched to turkey a little too early.

17:03 Palisade gates have 2 pierce armor, 2 normal armor, while most buildings, including houses, have 0 normal, 7 pierce armor and gain +1/+1 per age. So palisade gates do better than houses vs militia, but worse vs crossbowmen.
"Building armor" is a separate armor class and isn't just the amount of armor that buildings have. Most buildings have 0 building armor; castles and stone walls/gates are the only exceptions.
Finishing the turkey first will make one carcass quickly go away, so you have one instead of two things rotting at the time. This saves food in the long run, but is slower in the short run. Both are valid strategies imo.
DauT didn't finish the turkey, he started harvesting a turkey while boar still had 110 food left. It was just a standard pattern, you force drop boar hunters and go up to feudal.

If you finish the deer first you will overall collect more food. Although it may be slower
Well you go for fastest food, not most efficient.....most games are quick games and you want every quick advantage you can get.....you don't really worry about efficiency unless you know for a fact the game is going real long.
That's bullshit, the games aren't that short that they don't even finish the boars!
@@SilentHotdog28 sheep first gets you the food 3 seconds slower, but you end up with 20 more food overall. It's because you can finish the sheep quicker and lose less to decay, so you only have the boar decaying instead of the sheep + boar decaying. Sheep first is always better, it's just annoying because you have to retask the villagers after so they dont go kill another sheep.
Zero, can you start showing the drafts as well before the game begins? I think its a really interesting part of the game and would like to see the picks and bans.

I like his lumber camp placement. Of course, his villager has been idle for at least 2 minutes there, but if he had had an eye on him, this is by far the most efficient placement you can get!

The reason someone said the turkey was correct to gather from is because it is more efficient to have fewer animals rotting at the same time, so it is better to finish whichever has less food. But in this case the javelina have only 70 food left and it is gathered faster than the turkey, so yes, the javelina would have been most efficient.
Boar*, javelina travel in packs.
Why didn't Viper at 8:00 attack the 1hp building with his scout so daut loses all the ressources for the building?
You can't see or attack the fondation of an enemy building until a villager has started building it.
Unless there's a mangonel attacking a villager standing ontop of the foundation, I guess...

Not even then, as long as you haven't started building it the enemy can't damage or destroy it. The only thing that can happen is that you build something in that space before them but that only cancels the other player's building and returns his ressources.

The majority of this game appeared to be played in Daut's town, so how did Viper not have the economy to recover?

Nazrahnas I noticed that too.
They don't use monks as doctors nor TCs or Castles as hospitals and it's a mystery.
It's 1v1, so there's a clear front.

What did he do cav archers for? I saw no point. He could have won that with just arb and e skirms alone. Maybe he wanted to use them to raid while his footsloggers held the front
DauT is always playing 5 steps ahead of his opponent. Thats what makes him DauT.
It is better to take the turkey in that situation (if the turkey was started first) as the turkey has less food - will be used up faster - won't rot for as long

Disappointed that we didn't see elephant archers! They make excellent tanks even when not elite, since the elite upgrade doesn't give them extra armor. A cavalry archer with +2 armor can take 10 hits from an arbalest; an elephant archer, which costs just 80 more resources, can take 60 hits. If you get +6 armor from ring archer armor and Parthian tactics, then the heavy cavalry can take 20 hits while the non-elite elephant archer can now take 300.
In comparison, battle elephants with +2 armor can take 39 hits from a heavy cav archer.
3 years later. With this map by daut he should not get to castle age tbh. Great game. Indians were way stronger than nowadays ^^

hello guys i am new in this game , i couldnt find your support email so i ll ask here , yesterday i bought the aoe 2 hd in steam and when i start play i see its kinda different from when i watch it on streams , there are alot of maps missing and also some civilizations like when i watch a stream i see ethiopians indians malay ect but i dont have those in my game why is that ? pleas answer me or give me support email , thanks
i would say that you probably do not have the dlcs then.
probably you bought the basics without the dlcs or the expansion packs. Search it on steam, its there. For the HD edition, it shouldnt be costly at all now that definitive is out.
