You are walking in the Grand Palace of the Ayutthaya Kingdom. And try to imagine that everything is plastered with gold, just like the Grand Palace in Bangkok. but has a much larger area.
Wonderful vid Paddy. Almost an overload of places to go and stay and enjoy one province after another. It is impossible to go to Thailand for less than a year or two with so many places to sample and visit. I think I note 90% of the places you have shown us as places to go and experience. See you soon and thank you as always Paddy!
Another Awesome video Paddy . Ayutthaya is a very beautiful place. I am overwhelmed. Love all the temples. I rode an elephant once. Never want to do it again. It was very tiring. Your are a master of sunset shots and cool music.
I love Ayutthaya and always make a point of spending some time there. Thanks for making me want to get back there even more now! Keep up the great work.
Paddy, I play that music at 14:16 almost every day, its called the chant of Metta. Like you I feel something when I walk into temples. A peaceful place too sit and contemplate on what is good in the world. Keep up the good work. Look forward as always to your next vlog. Just had to cancel my trip on Friday due to covid :(
Most of the Buddha heads are missing because the Burmese who invaded Ayutthaya were looking for Golden Buddha statues. Apparently, the Thais would cover their golden Buddha statues in plater to hide them from invaders, but the Burmese discovered this. Most golden Buddha statues were looted and melted by the Burmese, but one actually survived and it is on display at Wat Traimit in Bangkok’s Chinatown. Golden Buddha information from Wikipedia. - The Golden Buddha, officially titled Phra Phuttha Maha Suwanna Patimakon (Thai: พระพุทธมหาสุวรรณปฏิมากร; Sanskrit: Buddhamahāsuvarṇapaṭimākara), commonly known in Thai as Phra Sukhothai Traimit (Thai: พระสุโขทัยไตรมิตร), is a gold Maravijaya Attitude seated Buddharupa statue, with a weight of 5.5 tonnes (5,500 kilograms). It is located in the temple of Wat Traimit, Bangkok, Thailand. At one point in its history the statue was covered with a layer of stucco and coloured glass to conceal its true value, and it remained in this condition for almost 200 years, ending up as what was then a pagoda of minor significance. During relocation of the statue in 1955, the plaster was chipped off and the gold was revealed. - The statue is 3 metres (9.8 ft) tall and weighs 5.5 tonnes (5.4 long tons; 6.1 short tons). (According to another account, the statue measures 3.91 meters from base to top, and 3.10 meters across the lap from knee to knee.) It can be disassembled into nine pieces.[7] The statue was housed in a wat in Ayutthaya until the mid 19th century, and its provenance from Ayutthaya excludes the possibility of it having been made after about 1750.
Paddy - You have had many vlogs visiting countless temples. But this one might be my favorite. I have been to Angkor Wat in Cambodia, and these places remind of that minus the hordes of tourists. Paid off to come early for sure! Like Machu Picchu, I can sit and stare at these places for hours and never feel the need to leave. Thank you for this, Paddy!!
HI PADDY, GREAT VID WALKING AROUND THE ANCIENT CITY OF AYUTTHAYA, WENT THERE AROUND 6YEARS AGO AND THE TREE GROWING AROUND THE BUDDHAS HEAD IS SO AMAZING ITS STAYED IN MY MIND EVER SINCE, THERE ARE SIGHTS LIKE THIS EVERYWHERE IN SIAM, TRULY AN AMAZING COUNTRY, KEEP UP THE FANTASTIC JOURNEY ON DREEMY, MANY THANKS ADRIAN.
This Thailand is really a fascinating country with an amazing culture even though they are the youngest culture in South East Asia ,compared to the Khemr, or Malays or Javanese .Truelly amazing the way they adapted to Buddhas life teachings .
I love watching these district videos. I was born in Thailand, and much of my family resides in a small district called Phichai. Ive never seen someone explore there yet as it's quite unheard of, but I would love to see a video there!!
The 3 spiked chedis in a row can also be seen in the Mortal Kombat films and games. The reclining Buddha is in the Street Fighter 2 game. The grounds surrounding the head in the tree were in Jean Claude Van Damme's film Kickboxer, during his training sequence. There is also a massive white pyramid temple ten minutes away by tuk tuk, and a toy museum that boasts to have one of the largest action figure collections on earth. I suggest 2 days for Ayutthaya.
Places like this one lets your imagination or fantasies go wild. Not see any ruins or loose stones but the majesty of what it could have been living there centuries ago, & how it feels being here now, in this world of yours. Everlasting experience!
You edit your videos so well...btw my hubby and I started watching to learn about Thailand but we keep watching because we love you! Looking forward to wherever else you decide to travel 💕

I don’t usually comment on videos but paddy!, you’ve done such an amazing job on this ancient province superb videography nice ambiance and quite aesthetic. ps. the history of those headless buddha statues are quite grim, they were beheaded during the sack of Ayutthaya in 1767 along with the city😞
Historians estimate that by the time of the 17th century there were over 400 temples in Ayutthaya. Most were destroyed when Ayutthaya fell to the Burmese in 1767 with the invading armies blamed for cutting off the heads and arms of many of the Buddha images. But these acts of destruction also left behind one of Thailand’s most iconic images that is reproduced on artwork and postcards. Located by the walls of
Thank you for youtube. Im from Viet Nam, in 2017 years, I had visited Ayuthaya, I remenbered celebrate with my love in here. Now, I single, but I hopping will come back Thai Land. Thank you so much ! So nice video !
Hi Paddy, To answer your question: The Burmese army stole the Buddha heads when they invaded the old capital of Ayutthaya in about 1767. This was the ultimate insult to the Thais. Legend has it that the head surrounded by tree roots was dropped by a fleeing Burmese soldier. Cheers. Love Ayutthaya!
WOW Paddy your game is spot on. I’ve arrived in Thailand with a go pro and am playing to make videos for family. The level of work it must take you to make fabulous content blows me away. Thanks for the amazing content.
We’ve been to Ayutthaya twice and the first time it was temporary free for everyone at all the sites. We were so lucky! We believe the heads are fine because they’ve been plundered in the past. It’s quite common. Thanks for a great video 💛
Thanks for the perfect tour guide, buddy. I watched your video on Friday. Then on Saturday, I went and did six of the best, including Sala. Flawless! Amazing!
I visited Ayutthaya in 1999. It looks so different now. I don't think I had to pay anything to view the temple's. I arrived by train and I remember being ferried across the river in a small boat to get to the town. One of the temple's had a stairway down into the centre where there were murals painted. I must go back again.
Paddy, definitely incredible place to visit. Thank you for putting this together and showing us what Ayutthaya has to offer away from the usual beaches and nightlife. The missing heads from the smaller statues, quite simply, the whole thing is too heavy to pick up and so over the hundreds of years, 'souvenir hunters' would have just taken what they could carry, thus the head. Entry price of 50baht per site, even if more than Thai price, is very reasonable indeed. Great video. Hope you're doing well and enjoying your travels. All the very best from a very chilly UK.
I wanted to go here pre pandemic. Its on my must do list even more after I have watched your beautifully shot vlog. You didnt break any equipment this time well done.
As always just so beautiful and so fascinating. Everything about this beautiful city Ayutthaya is something that I can tell you really enjoyed your time there . As always mate absolutely love ya work . 😀
The Buddha statues are mostly headless because they were looted during the sacking of Ayutthaya. It’s easier to loot just the statues’ head than loot the statues as a whole
Hi. Loving your recent video tour of ayutthaya. Definitely will visit when I can leave London in May. Funny that I'm actually thai born but never been to ayutthaya. I c you mention about the heat of the sun. At least you have the heat and sun. Thanks again for a fabulous tour clip of ayutthaya can't wait 😀 😊.
Paddy, thanks for the great suggestions to hire a TukTuk for the day to move around the city and see all the sights. We went to the train station and as per you other suggestion to get an early start, arranged for a 7:45 pickup at our hotel to visit attractions before the heat and the crowds.
Hi Paddy, I love your work! I was told when I visited Ayutthaya that the Burmese army knocked the heads off the buddhas when they overran the city all those years ago.
Haha, I love the way you talk about the food ;P Stay champ mate! 😘 ps. People come by with gold leaves putting them on the statue to show respect and worship. So the golden flakes we've seen in your video are fairly new 🙏🏼👏
Good stuff! Super Vlog. I spent 2 nights in Ayutthaya back in May of 2000. Almost 22 years ago. I think the whole time I was there I only saw 2 other westerners and no Thai tourists. Very empty and quiet.
Great video, I was there back in 2019 but only did a day trip from Bangkok. Might have to go back and stay there a day or two so I can check it out at sunset from the river, awesome view
This is in top 5 highlights of my trip around Thailand! Highly recommended to go and explore these wonders. A half a day trip from Bangkok is enough. You will get tired because of the heat so don’t think you can do it all day let alone riding around on a bike. Oh and about the missing heads the tour guide said its because they are easier to steal instead of the whole statue. Seems legit 😅
Would you be so kind to show us more temples that look very similar? And, while your at it, some more hotels and restaurants? That would be invigorating and the ultimate mental stimulation. it would give us a great insight on the integrity of Thailand. Thanks bunches! 555
Great video. I really loved your travel experience to Ayutthaya. You made a great point to start your day early because of the blistering heat. That’s so true! By the way, how are petrol prices in Thailand? The price we pay at the pump in the United States is going WAY up.

Exactly, that war between the Burmese and Siam more than 250 years ago is still sitting inside the head of many thai people.
