What started as a normal friendship become something more that neither expected or maybe something that Yaz wanted and what The Doctor needed. Season 11 was only the beginning of their friendship but with them becoming closer friends. To Season 12, their relationship grew into something more especially for Yaz when she was taking the risks The Doctor would do. Especially at the end of The Timeless Child when Yaz first stepped into Gallifrey and stopped The Doctor from blowing up. Some can say that any friend would do that, but because both The Doctor and Yaz cried you could tell that they both really cared about each other. To The Revolution of the Daleks, Yaz spent 10 months trying to find The Doctor while Ryan and Graham (sort of) moved on but when there was danger, they didn't hesitate to jump into action. When they reunited, instead of hugs Yaz shoved her instead. When Yaz and Jack talked, Jack was being straight and told her the truth of having adventures with The Doctor "Being with The Doctor you don't get to choose when it stops. Whether you leave her or she leaves you" and thats the cold-hearted truth but it hasn't happened in a long time. But Jack was being straight with her because he saw that from the shove, that Yaz truly cared about her. And then at the end, Yaz wanted to stay with her but not out of love but because of Time. To The Flux, The Flux definitely tested their relationship through danger and time. In Episode 2, The Doctor wasted no time in finding out how to find Yaz and then when she did, she was scared she would lose her. Then in Episode 4, Yaz wanted to save The Doctor from The Weeping Angels but Dan had to hold her because she would've burned if she crossed through the portal. To Episode 5, When Yaz was traveling while The Doctor was dealing with The Division, Yaz spent the next 3 years of her life traveling and listening to the record message left by The Doctor showing how much he misses her. And now to Episode 6, when they all met in the mines, after saying everyone's names, The Doctor straight away hugged Yaz and Yaz embraced her both showing how much they miss each other. But then the ending in Episode 6 showed, that they truly love each other and had a moment before it got ruined by Dan. In the Eve of the Daleks, it definitely made them question how much they really cared for each other. But Dan noticed it and told Yaz and she was speechless. Took me a while to figure out when Yaz was talking to Dan "I've never told anyone. Not even myself" I didn't actually realise at the time, but now I know that she was actually talking about her sexuality. Like Yaz was questioning herself "Does me falling for The Doctor make me gay? Am I gay?" and then when Dan did it to The Doctor, the shock on her face showed that The Doctor realised she truly does also "like" like her. But because nearly every time The Doctor falled for someone or someone falled for The Doctor, it never ends well. It started with Rose to Amelia to Clara and while Bill wasn't a romance Bill counts as someone The Doctor cared for and The Doctor lost all of them. Which now leads to The Sea Devils, from the embarrassing date under the sea to The Doctor confessing to Yaz that if she ever wanted to date someone or do something romantic with someone, The Doctor admitted she would do it with Yaz but again, after what happened to the others, The Doctor is afraid that if she falls for Yaz, she's afraid that she'll lose her just like the others. Finally to The Power of the Doctor, when her regeneration was starting when The Doctor said "I need more time. I want more time" she knew she messed up because now she regretted now telling Yaz how she felt about her. But I truly believe, it was ok that The Doctor didn't tell Yaz how she felt in the end, because if she told Yaz "I love you" and she said it back, Yaz would become like Rose and Clara where she stays with the next Doctor but she didn't want that for Yaz. So thats why she said "I have loved being with you Yaz. And I have loved being me" is another way of saying "I love you" but not making it sound like a goodbye, but like a promise that they'll see each other again. Jodie definitely had the worst time to be Th Doctor due to Covid and the UK on lockdown which is why season 13 was changed to a theme which was Flux with 6 Parts and 3 Specials which were New Years, Easter and a Doctor Finale Special (that felt like a pre-Anniversary Special). If they had an extra, it definitely would've giving The Doctor and Yaz more time and maybe a better ending. I truly hope that Jodie comes back for Specials and maybe for 1 or maybe 2 more season with Mandip as Yaz again and have proper ending to their story.
Fourteenth Doctor: Yaz, I'm not your girlfriend.
Yaz: I never thought you were.
Fourteenth Doctor: I never said it was your mistake.
This is such a lovely thasmin edit! I’m not ready to let them go yet 😢
