    I wouldn't be surprised if we get all of the above but spaced out over a couple or a few years. We get one more retail expansion that ties up the cosmic/void story and at the end khadgar or a bronze dragon will go back in time and alter the original timeline making it so we don't go through the dark portal to TBC. So the revamp, classic+ and wow2 all become the same thing as we set off down a new timeline. During the retail expansion they'll have a season of mastery 2 to keep the classic players around then join everyone up for the "next generation".

    I'm really really hoping for Classic+ too. You can already see in Wrath the transition towards retail, with things such as character boosts, the WoW token, RDF, etc. It's gotten very raid log-y too. And if they go Cata then at that point it may as well be retail. I don't know anyone who actually prefers the classic style of the game that would be excited to play Cata. The only true hope for new content that actually caters to the Classic playerbase that would make us happy is Classic+. And I agree, this year at Blizzcon is the inflection point. The main classic trilogy is over and they have to make a decision what to do next with classic, it's either Cata (which means classic will become nothing more than a different set of servers going through every expansion until it catches up with retail) or it's classic+. Let's hope they choose Classic+

    • @vulgrin9573
      @vulgrin9573  Год назад

      I hope so too. There's nothing I'd like more than to be part of the process of that Classic+ movement. This is the perfect time. They've done all of the Classic trilogy, now is the point where they must decide which direction to take their franchise in.

    • @TheDynastyWarrior13
      @TheDynastyWarrior13 Год назад

      @@vulgrin9573 I agree completely! Even if Cata itself isn't as bad as people make it out to be, if they choose to make Cata Classic, then classic will become nothing more than a delayed release for every Xpac until it eventually catches up with retail. Do people really want to go back and play classic WoD, BFA, or Shadowlands? I doubt it. Going down the path with Cata is a slippery slope that really will alienate most of the Classic playerbase in my opinion.
      Retail is far too broken to be fixed, there is simply no undoing the damage done from over a decade worth of decisions that led WoW down a path I think was misguided. Classic+ can represent the new foundation for WoW and a start of something special that could actually bring back both veteran WoW players and new players. I truly believe it's the best hope to save WoW. But also don't have high hopes for Blizzard actually doing it, not without servers like Turtle WoW growing to the same size as Nostalrius. I hope I'm wrong and I'm glad there are servers out there like Turtle give us the Classic+ experience if Blizzard won't

But it wouldn’t be for a small portion of players, I’ve read on certain sources that roughly 40-50% of players are playing a classic version of the game. Assuming that’s true, investing in classic is worth the time and energy of Blizzard in my opinion. At least worth a try.
      Also though, we never thought we would get official classic servers or official hardcore servers and here we are. Largely as a result of player demand, so who knows, maybe one day classic+ will happen. I wouldn’t bet on it, but I think there is a slim chance it happens one day

  • @aessedaiclassic

    It's not so much hopium as it was for Classic+, or what I would say is effectively WoW 2. The next retail expansion, from a creative lore standpoint, was probably overwhelmingly set at the beginning of Dragonflight, so it makes more sense for him to be on Classic or another Warcraft team entirely. I heard someone pose the idea of a Warcraft animated series or Warcraft 4. Of the options I've been presented, new a classic content makes more sense to me. That said, temper your expectations, even as pivotal a role as he played, Metzen is just a man and will be subject to the same corporate regulations and deadlines, whether or not he still has a creative flow for the warcraft universe.

      I considered the possibility of the big announcement being Warcraft 4 or a Warcraft animated series, but the fact that they specifically refer to him currently working on World of Warcraft suggests that it'll be an announcement connected to that game.
      I think that you make a good point in regards to the retail expansion after Dragonflight already being worked on a good while before he got this role, though it's worth pointing out that he actually returned as an advisor a little under a year ago.

    I think there sits the true magic of world of warcraft in its classic era.
    Wow was full of magic but it was also relatable. Zones either matched our world or matched huge fantasy worlds like lord of the rings. There was magic but when you travel you will mostly see mobs that were humans, orcs or mythical creatures from European fantasy lore.
    George R.R martin wrote his world where it matched our universe however there were glimpses of magic and magical creatures such as the children of the forest. It wasn't a bloated fantasy genre.
    LOTR was similar that it matched our universe but it also had magical elves and sometimes mythical creatures and some magic.
    Wow had some what this in the game where we werent having hyper fantasy mythical beasts thrown at us left, right and Centre. Of course u had magic from mages, warlocks, shamans etc but the world felt big and not very saturated with magic.

    The most truly groundbreaking idea would be to start a new adventure from the very beginning of WC lore and that would be...BEFORE the Maelstrom when Kalimdor was one continent starting at the timeline when elves were dark trolls. Experiencing their evolutionary process from troll to highborne due to their exposure from the great moonwell...A time when Cenarius roamed the forests of Hyjal and oversaw the birth of the elven race and teaching them the druidic ways...The birth of Azshara and the rise of the Kaldori empire which saw them build massive structures all over Kalimdor, the very same ones that players saw in ruins as they leveled in vanilla wow...Her eventual corruption and the actions she would take to satiate her thirst for more arcane power leading to the coming of the Burning Legion to Kalimdor that would plunge the continent into war leading to the ultimate demise of the Kaldori empire and "The Great Sundering" that would sink Azshara and what was left of her highborne to the bottom of the sea ripping the continent apart into what we know Azeroth to be now.

    Y'know what my pipe dream is?
    Them overhauling classic with better graphics and engine and basically starting all over but actually telling a cool story this time. While putting retail in maintenance mode.
    When we venture to Outland, Illidan isn't evil and Kael'thas isn't insane. They eventually rejoin us on Azeroth because the Lich King is coming, and this time... he won't have some demented master plan that inevitably fails but he becomes a long-staying antagonist that frequently threatens the world. And he is voiced by the actual Arthas voice actor, who they offer more than a pittance this time.
    As the world evolves and changes, Azeroth remains the stage for all future events, the Scourge, The Legion, The Old Gods... No islands, no alternate dimensions, nada. A living and breathing world that makes people want to be there and adventure and explore, and not just a gauntlet of expansions, turning every iconic character into a loot pinata.
    This would be the way to resurrect Warcraft from the grave. But it's a pipe dream. What is coming is just another expansion with new zones and new rubbish to waste time on because one man - no matter how good he might be - cannot change a whole corporation on his own.

    How would this influence the burning legion and their attempt to destroy the world tree? Could we prevent the corruption and Death of Grom? Would Cenarius stay alive? Would Tyrande still wake up Malfurion? Would she free Illidan to help them?

    Althought my faith has been tainted a bit in recent years, I still like Blizzard and most of their games and I hope whatever damage has been caused can be healed, over time.
    My Ideal WoW game, (and I realize it might just be wishful thinking), is one where they incorporate Classic into Retail, allowing us to play through the old world Pre-Cata. I'm fine with them updating the graphics to fit the current game, but getting to play the game as it was once again, in the actual main game rather then it being a totally seperate game, would be great.
    That, or I want them to gradually overhaul the older zones, basically heal the damage caused by Cataclysm. This doesn't have to be the main focus, just occationally update one zone at a time whenever they can, similar to what they did with Darkshore and Arathi Highlands in BfA, with the War Campaigns. I wish that was just how the those zones looked permanently, even to low lvl players arriving there through leveling, and I want the rest of the old zones to recieve the same treatment.

    3) Scarlet Monastery raid. Considering how popular SM dungeons have always been. Fill the empty and unfinished areas with content. Many places on the world map to add more.

I hopped onboard again for the release of WOW classic and played through to Burning Crusade. At that point with the decline of our server population guildmates transferred to a new realm and I stopped playing. I am curious what the next steps are for WOW. I would enjoy the option of servers that remain at Vanilla, TBC & WOTLK stages. I would play on all 3, to enjoy each on its own merits.

They can keep the same general storyline, just told a different way - without the un needed clutter and making it more cinematic. I think they would benefit from making this remake or *remaster* an open world experience with little to no private instances.

    The idea of Vanilla+ is so exciting but there is one thing that bothers me with it.
    Should vanilla+ have entirely different content than original vanilla or revolve around existing vanilla content?
    If they build vanilla + on existing vanilla content the only logical option is to add dungeons and content after naxxramas because game has perfect pace untill naxx in both gear progression and leveling experience. There is no point adding new questing zones because it would ruin the leveling pace with many new quests added. Also there is no point in adding another raid between existing ones because for example i don't see a point in another BWL tier raid with same or slightly lower/higher gear lvl. In terms of new pve content, it means that vanilla+ content should start after naxxramas in order to keep the original progression pace intact as it is - perfect. Things that are not affected are small class tweaks and changes, making certain specs viable and minor quality of life improvements to keep the vanilla flavour.
    On the other hand if they build vanilla+ with brand new content, then it's no longer vanilla but a brand new game. In this situation people will again feel nostalgic about original vanilla and gravitate towards playing the TRUE 2004 vanilla in Nostalrius style and not blizzard one.
    What do you guys think?

    • @vulgrin9573
      @vulgrin9573  Год назад

      Some great points here. I'll add my two cents (because I'll be making a full video about what I'd personally like to see in Classic+ in a dedicated video).
      I think that content would have to come after the end of the Vanilla game. We would defeat KT in Naxx 40, and sometime after that, the first new patch would be released. I think that new zones would be great and if so, it would make sense to start with stuff already in the world but not fully fleshed out, such as Hyjal (and maybe also the areas of the map which were left empty such as north of Stratholme etc.
      My strong opinion is that they would need to be very careful about introducing anything like a new continent, which was the pattern established from TBC onwards. Doing that slowly but surely removed higher level players from the old world and that negatively impacted the lower level experience.
      So much more I could go into, but like I said, I'll save it for a video!
