I have 8 of them which include the two parents and 6 children. They all have different personalities. I also have a wild bird, a European Starling, that I raised after it became orphaned. He goes outside and comes back in every day. He is very attached to me. Birds are amazing little creatures. They can drive you crazy but they are precious.
My oldest cockatiel is 29 and a half years old. It's possible he's alot slower now and not as mobile but just as happy and mentally sharp as ever. Honestly I think the love he has received his whole life has made him happy plus healthy.

I had the exact same relationship with an identical Cockatiel 40 years ago. People who are not familiar with birds many times find it hard to believe how close of a bond you can develop with them. She was as close to me as any dog that I have ever owned. I still think of her to this day. Thanks for sharing your story.

You are very spot on... the males are the ones that get the deep orange cheeks and vibrant bright colors.The females dont. They have more pale colors. you're right, the males do most of the singing, talking and chattering as this one.

I know that feeling, I know what you are taking about, I have a cockatiel called Lula :)) She transformed my entire life. I pray for her to stay happy and healthy. My Lula now has a husband and kids, my friends told me I can sell them for good money and I refused. They are my kids! I would give them happily to another parents who would take a good care of them. They are not for sale! They are free souls. They are my soul. Bless them all

I had a lovebird once. They have personalities, likes, dislikes, favorite people and pets, tantrums and loving actions. They are sensient beings and I believe they have what we humans call souls. They get sad and depressed when you leave them behind for work trips or vacations and are super excited when you return. Some can say human words but they are not "dumb" creatures as many people say. Their love is pure and beautiful. Treat them with kindness and love and they will return these right back at you.
Cant say the same for my brother's lovebird, its like she was birthed in a fiery pits of Hell itself to unleash as much chaos and death as possible. Also she seduced the parakeet.
Sorry to hear about your brother's lovebird. That was not my experience. I was also acquainted with an Amazon parrot who was also a sweetheart too. I was never a bird pet owner until I was gifted the lovebird but he was such a sweetie, but he was quite young when I received him into my home and I spent quite a bit of time bonding with him before returning to a regular work schedule. When I got home he would be so excited to see me walk in and would make excited sounds, fluff his wings and dance around in his cage waiting by the door until I could let him out. It was like having a dog. He would perch on my shoulder watching everything I did including watching TV, movies and reading. Every so often though he would start his nesting behavior and nibble through the newspaper to make a nest in his cage, but that is what these birds do. Again sorry to hear about your bird.
Absolutely! My mom, who is not an animal lover like me, always taught me to take full responsibility for whatever animal I choose to take. And that includes doing research. I continue to learn always. They deserve the best that I can give.
i love birds! and in the wild they have a social community to spend time and play all day with! thats why i dont own a bird. i rather see them in nature. but i always admire birds who are happy and well cared for and socialized. they are so intelligent like dogs and must be engaged a lot

My family bred these birds when i was growing up.. They're so smart! Ours whistled tv theme songs we regularly watched.. And always said "What a pretty bird!" They knew how cute they were lol!

Lola is indeed a boy but in the very early days of Lola's life it wasn't clear and by the time we got to birdie puberty, everyone (including Lola) was used to the name. I say "she" because it's such a feminine name it would feel weird otherwise and Lola doesn't care! lol

Lola is indeed a boy but in the very early days of Lola's life it wasn't clear and by the time we got to birdie puberty, everyone (including Lola) was used to the name. I say "she" because it's such a feminine name it would feel weird otherwise and Lola doesn't care! lol

@@harkra you are correct. However, when Lola was very young though, it was not clear (as is often the case) and by the time Lola hit puberty and it was clear, everyone (including Lola) was used to the name. And saying "he" and "Lola" just feels weird to me lol
@@featheredadventureswithludo I had a cockatiel named Hana growing up, he looked like a female until his adult feathers came in when he got those bright orange cheeks. We referred to him as 'he' when we found out, but his name will forever be Hana.
