- Welcome to the EPIC Adventure Outfitters Podcast, amazingly called "2 Dudes 1 Wrench". The title of this episode is "Ring of Desire, Pinion of Passion" - a spirited and honest discussion on re-gearing your Jeep and covering other related topics like axle shafts, differentials, lockers, and choosing the appropriate gearing for your engine power, tire size and intended purpose.
Overlanders bring everything with them, including the kitchen sink, so choosing the right gearing for your differential is important to keep your vehicle running smoothly. We look at the differences and uses between electronic lockers and ARB air lockers, axle shafts, breaking your bottom end and much more!
Our apologies on the first 5 mins of video - one of the cameras didn't focus. It corrects at 5 minutes onwards. Cheers!

Who is the Ginger's stylist? I need some help.
Its Shawn from the story till now😂
@@tristarOffroad Bingo!
I went 4.56 gears on my diesel gladiator on 37s. I wish I went 4.88s! Definitely was an improvement but I miss the downhill control of deep gears. ⚙️ Dana gears for the win. I called them and they said no break in process. Drive it. I did change the fluid at 500 miles and at 1500 and the fluid was perfect! I consider myself a good tec but I still gave it to a gear artist to do.
This was an excellent episode. You guys see stuff we don't see and the advice you give us is invaluable. Thank you so very much. I am always eager to see what you'll cover in the next episode. 💜
Mr Vance... we appreciate you. Thanks for watching and glad that you found our ramblings useful. Cheers from the Ginger and the team at EPIC!
As a new jeep owner. Gingers review on the new Willy’s is spot on. I purchased one but I went with the 3.6 😂
As a first time Jeep owner, you guys information is priceless. I’m stuck with figuring out shocks currently and I’d love to pick you brain for a few minutes if possible,
A veritable encylopedia of wisdom. Thanks boys.
Just reading from wikipedia ;)
I knew I was gonna go with the Alu-Cab setup eventually, and I knew the back was gonna be loaded. I had 5.13 gearing for a good ten months before I loaded it up on there, and I was only on 35's. I knew my gut was telling me that was the correct way to go, and it totally is. What you're saying around 11:40 validates it so much. Thanks!
We're super glad you found the info useful and validating. Cheers from the Ginger and the team at EPIC!
Great job guys
Whoever is styling that dude....hell yes. We need more colour in the world!
We have a full style team on call here. It's redonkulous.
Nice content also love hearing the real-life experiences and busting Mopar chops...!
Give Advance Driveline a try for axles, they to are an AMW installer here in the states and have many options for the JL/JLU/JT platforms.
Having a set of 392 axles installed on my 2door sport later on this week so this video was perfect timing.
Excellent upgrade! Thanks for watching and glad you found it useful. Cheers from the team at EPIC!
Great podcast guys.
Huge thanks from our team for watching and following along. Cheers from the Ginger and the guys at EPIC!
I should drive all the way to BC from Chicago to have your guy do the gears. 21 JT Rubicon diesel on 37's. Still on stock gears. It needs it.
I think I was one of those 4 jeeps they did. The results have been fantastic. The ride with a Teraflex coil and Falcon 3.3's pushing 37" Nittos ride better than stock. I also opted to step up to 5.13's which allowed me to still find 8th gear on the highway.
Excellent! Glad you're finding the 5.13 gears hit the sweet spot for you. Cheers from the Ginger and the team at EPIC!
Great stuff guys! I'm hoping to have my first Wrangler JLU in the next few months. Your channel as well Sean's, Casey and Teddy's channels. Keep it up! Thank you!
Mr Brandon, we will most certainly keep it up. We appreciate you. Cheers from the Ginger and the team at EPIC!
Most important thing in axle cover will be looking the one which actually distribute oil correctly. Most of them just create washing machine effect preventing correct lubrication .
Great episode guys, lots of good info. Had mine regeared to 4.88 dana spicer gears last year I think by the same gears guy 😎 and definitely night and day difference on 37’s. Looking forward to seeing the two doors wheeling. Love the direction of more rock crawling and stuff!
Great Post! Lots of good info. Never a dull post from the Epic Guys!
Looking forward to the upgrades on your new 2 doors when you post!
Stay safe all!
Thanks Gerry! Thanks for allowing us to occupy your brain space for 57 mins. Cheers from the Ginger and the team at EPIC!
Hell Yeah - Stoked you guys got some KC's!
Yeah, it will be our first time running KC lights. I'm looking forward to turning night into day in the near future! Cheers from the team at EPIC!
@@EPIC-4WD Your gonna love the Gravity Titans! They are so bright, they double as snow melters!
I drove my 2021 Jeep Gladiator Max Tow on 37s with 4.10 gears from Nevada to New York and back. Saw 6th gear most of the time. With a headwind 5th gear. The transmission is constantly searching. I regeared to 4.88 Dana spicers. I see plenty of 8th gear and the Jeep shifts like it did stock on 32 inch wheels with 4.10 gears. Definitely regear if going up in tire size.
This guy gets it. Cheers from the team at EPIC!
Thank you so much for this video, it was very informative!
Awesome! Thanks for watching. Cheers from the team at EPIC!
Thanks guys. Enjoying these episodes. 👍🏻
I have an 22 SR5 and have gone from 245 65r16 up to 265 75r16 tires. Also p rated to e rated. So weight is up to. On method 703s all around. And Alu-cab contour on my long box. With a 180lb rtt up top. With just this should i regear up to 4.88?
Its an automatic.
If no answer. God bless and enjoy life!
Thanks for the entertainment guys!
What? No ASMR video?haha
Love the chats you 2!!
lol - you'd like an ASMR podcast video? We're not sure what that would be ha ha. Cheers from the team at EPIC!
19mm=3/4" :)
ball joint eliminators? what are your thoughts?
more diesel jeep inclusion.
aluminum vs cast outer knuckle reliability thoughts, please.
love what you guys do, thank you so much!
I skipped therapy session and found that this is a much better form of therapy🤣🤣 Btw, is Gingers HARD DADDY shirt new merch?😜 Congrats on the bro-versary.
Our therapy bill is in the mail sir. Ha Ha. Cheers from the Ginger and the team at EPIC!
You guys should get time stamps, im really curious on arb air lockers and if they're worth putting in my 2 door
2 random customers in the Arctic Circle, we all wonder who they are 😂.
It really must’ve taken several attempts to edit this podcast, because they’ve already edited and released their videos from the arctic circle 18:24
The first time we shot the podcast, we had audio problems, so we had to reshoot this episode last week. Ah right... Forgot that Shaun and Brad went up there. We did build Shaun's RAM. No re-gear tho. Additionally, we have 2 other clients up there currently (one in a RAM3500 Prospector and the other in a Wrangler 392,) - I was referring to them ;-) Huge thanks for watching and cheers from the Ginger and the team at EPIC!
@@EPIC-4WD different ram, different jeep, same destination. that’s a funny coincidence 😂
Meanwhile, Jeep sells Rubicons with 4.10 axle gearing with 33s & 35s on the XR Edition... 4.10s are also great for 37s when paired with the Rubicon 2L Turbo 2 door 2 seater (light weight fun edition).
BTW, I see 8th gear all the time and change the oil every 3K...
Not to rock the boat, but how do you feel about portal axles?
Who do you use to regear?
Thoughts on Tru-Tracs or Detroit lockers on the JL/JT platform?
I personally wouldn't use either in a JL/JT. There are many times that you don't want any kind of locking on a trail or obstacle. Also the shorter the wheel base the worse a Detroit locker behaves and makes it annoying to drive. I personally stand behind selectable lockers are always the way to go for a vehicle that is used both on and off road. But that's just my opinion.
@@TheEPICBeardedGinger agreed on the Detroit’s being less than ideal. There is still something that tempts me about doing Trutracs front and rear on my JT. I have had so many experiences with peoples selectable lockers failing, the simplicity is attractive. Factor in cost and install complexity (no drilling into the pumpkin to run air or power) it makes it even more attractive.
@@hjstrater I fully understand I to prefer the KISS method, I had a Detroit locker in a 2 door JK in 2013 for about a week, it was un-drivable personally with a short wheel base in the rear, I swapped out to an ARB quickly after.
Do you really need to change the gearing in the rear to run 37's on a three inch lifted 2020 JLU Rubicon I have 35's on now
Just do the rear you will be fine
I personally prefer a regeared Jeep regardless of 35s or 37s, the vehicle preforms better both on and off road. Also you have to regear both front and rear diffs so nothing binds up
@@TheEPICBeardedGinger i was trolling, i thought regear was common knowledge if you ride a 10 speed bike up the hill, you have to RE-Gear ...lol
@@Krystof-j7c all good, I appreciate a good trolling
When does going too deep with a Dana 44 ring gear become so thin that it is no longer viable? I was told once by a guy who has built numerous Jeeps that 4.88 was as deep as you should go on a Dana 44. Now, that was in reference to TJ/LJ Dana 44s and not the current JL/JT Dana 44s.
According to our differential guy, the new Advantek diffs are different and the 5.13 gear is still a strong option, I personally just am always to concerned with MPG I am usually to nervous to do that deep.
