I'm loving the new danforth bike lanes. Makes for a quick and safe way to get around! Nice video 👍🏽
Enjoyed this video , great bike lanes on the Danforth .....Thank You
Thanks for recording this, it was great! With such high quality, I feel almost like I'm there! :)
We used to live in Riverdale, and my wife was an advocate for these lanes for years. It's so great to see that they're finally here! I hope they install proper curbs some day, but Toronto likes to take it slow.
i dont mean to be so offtopic but does anybody know of a method to log back into an instagram account?
I somehow forgot the login password. I would appreciate any tricks you can give me!
@Mack Aaron Instablaster ;)
@Coleman Warren i really appreciate your reply. I got to the site through google and I'm waiting for the hacking stuff now.
I see it takes a while so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
@Coleman Warren it worked and I actually got access to my account again. Im so happy:D
Thanks so much you saved my account !
@Mack Aaron No problem xD
Beautiful ride Johnny well secured bike lanes most of the way that's good 👍love the little conversation you and the guy had and I know he is glad for the little info you gave him I could hear it in his voice 🤗 keep these wonderful vlogs coming 💞💞
Thanks Denise!
Thanks for making this video. Many cycling advocates feel we succeeded, we got the bike lanes and enough cyclists use this strip so we can keep them. So we can move on to ask for bike lanes in other parts of the city. I feel the opposite. We can use it to get more here and everywhere. By doubling or tripling (last year's) daily cyclist count on Danforth this year, we can ask it to be extended to Kingston Road and get more north south routes from it. Extend the popular routes, like the Danforth. It's smart, effective, and an easy sell to the public and city council. But more cyclists here will make the difference. If this happens, it will be easy to get bike lanes on Bloor, to Kipling, bike lanes on all Jane, on Yonge, on Sheppard. A small increase of 5 to 10% and we will need to fight hard for the smallest new cycling infra.
Extending the existing routes makes a lot of sense!
Just stumbled across your channel and I love the content! So I guess I'm not the only person who loves to checkout bike lanes and ride down them without a destination in mind :) Toronto looks cool and would be fun to visit one day. Here in Bangalore, we're getting our first popup and protected bike lanes in the next couple of months, can't wait to ride those!
I really enjoyed this bike ride, but I was virtually exhausted by the end of it! 🤪
So was I lol
Thanks for showing us all the different areas in Toronto!
Recently discovered your channel and very much enjoying your walks & bike rides. I had the good fortune to visit Toronto a few years ago on our trip to North America. I’m a big fan of the late Jeff Healey and hired a bike from Batemans with the intention of visiting the park that bears his name in Etobicoke. Long story short... I got hopelessly lost and ended up kms away in Meadowvale. I never got to visit the park (or the Park Lawn Cemetery ) so would appreciate if you are ever in the neighbourhood, you might might consider making a video. Cheers
Thanks Chris! I'll add that idea to the list, no promises but if I can do it at some point I will :)
It is a beautiful place with a cool cycle and street view.
Love your videos! Can you do a cycling video on yorkville please ?
Nice ride Johnny, everytime you ride past a table I jokingly say "grab a chicken wing".😂 Makes me laugh 🤣.
You do a great job showcasing the city. The Toronto Star reported that 4,000+ cyclists use(d) the Danforth Bike lane on Aug 7th. That's an average of 178 cyclists per hour.. I guess Monday they must have taken an alternate route.
I was wondering where they all were too lol
I used to live at Danforth and Woodbine. A nice and quiet area. You mentioned the TTC stations being north of Danforth. They run under the street parallel, part of it being Strathmore Blvd. As for why they cut and cover the street north, I dont know, but perhaps less disruption to the businesses on Danforth (see Eglinton West today).
Thanks for the info!
Toronto is a very beautiful city, I love it.
With respect to your comment about right turns at intersections, the configuration you prefer is considered unsafe, which is why Toronto has stopped doing them that way (I believe the last one installed was Bloor and Bathurst).
Of course, you're also correct that the current configuration is also unsafe (in different ways), but it's what you'll often find in Copenhagen.
The correct solution for intersections is to have the cycling stop line ahead of the car stop line (to make cyclists visible), give cyclists a green light ahead of cars, and ideally, to control the right turn for cars.
This Bicycle Dutch video is the best I've seen when it comes to discussing proper junction design. Toronto doesn't seem to want to commit to concrete curbs very often, but an intersection could be built this way with flexy sticks:

Wow. That's great. Wish they had that back in my day. I rode in traffic. And I was crazy rider back then.
Crazy but you're still here, so you did something right! (or got lucky). I'm glad these bike lanes are in but passing people can be a bugger with the barriers.
Hi Johnny nice to see you again...
My aunt lives on Inglewood. It is a very nice neighbourhood.
I actually walked along Danforth Ave from Danforth Rd to Coxwell Avenue. It's about 45minutes. I can't tell you how many drivers try to race you making their right turns just as you step off the curb to cross the street. Now with these bike lanes, it should be safer for pedestrians.
That's a good point, let's hope it's the case!
You might consider leaving your camera case on your helmet as a decoy. I don't know if it's my imagination, but I think I have a better road biking experience when drivers see that you are recording their every move when they see your camera.
Interesting idea. It's just too heavy on longer rides for me, maybe I have a weak neck lol. I got used to it last year but after switching to the chest mounted camera I really have no desire to go back to using it regularly.
30:20 I wonder if it would be better to have both lanes together on one side of the road, to make it easier to pass. Of course, a bit hazardous when it comes to turning. Might need some signal upgrades (though I almost got hit in a signalized crossride last night).
I was looking for your new channel & couldn't find it.
Hi John, here it is :) ruclips.net/channel/UCF-sE--qSw-5fTsLBhnvDRA
Thanks for the good video
I used to live at studio apartment 104 Good wood park apartment off of dawes road at 24:00.Main & Danforth intersection is my known face.there used to be a hakeem optical at southwest corner of intersection!lots of chain went out of buisiness like zellers, coffetime, dominion.i havent seen any of them on your recording sofar!
I got an unexpected interior shampoo last night. Left my car windows open. lol
Strong uphill work, I've only gone down MP.
That was the part that killed me in the end :(
The scooter at the 27:00 mark, are they allowed in bike lanes? I really haven't been past Greektown, so I thank you for showing that area! And....wished you biked more cause the Raps lost...lol! Thanks for the video! 👍👍👍
My reaction too... What's up with motorcycles in the bike lane?
@@robertkarp6336 I see them on bike trails a lot too, unless a cop sees them there is nothing you can do.
I don't believe that's allowed at all but traffic enforcement in Toronto these days is virtually zero :(
@@JohnnyStrides I saw a picture of an activeTO brochure indicating e-scooters are allowed in bike lanes now. I can't seem to dig up a source online other than the picture but I have emailed activeTO to confirm.
Excellent 👍🌸
I wrote to the Mayor giving my endorsement to keep the Danforth Bike Lanes permanent. The two councillors who were opposed to these bike lanes were 1) my councillor of Don Mills East and 2) the councillor of the ward where a 3-year old was killed while crossing Burnhamthorpe and the East Mall.
Awesome video man. What the name of the Road bike you have it's amazing
Thanks, it's just a single speed KHS Urban Soul.
@@JohnnyStrides oh nice.
Thanks
The traffic at Woodbine and Danforth was bad before the bike lanes as well
Ah thanks for confirming! I hadn't been through this area at this time pre-pandemic (always stuck in the office).
I can second that. Before the bike lanes, you have drivers taking all 1.5 lanes and trying to bully cyclists out of the way. Of course, as a cyclist, you can filter through all the congested traffic and not be an obstruction to any motorist when they are stuck because of themselves.
That lady that went through the red light is probably what happened in Mississauga where that teenager was killed yesterday
I have this phobia to ride a bike in the city because of the amount of pedestrians and drivers. I loved riding in Stanley Park in Vancouver and I really want to buy a bike and ride here in Toronto but I'm just nervous.
Great video, Johnny. Toronto has made great progress with bike lanes. So nice to see. I noticed a couple of motorcyclists using the lane. Is that allowed? You mentioned putting cameras on various places. I'm not fond of watching a helmet cam video. Too much swinging motion, but I am in favor of a rear facing cam. That way you can edit in some interesting footage of perhaps angry people you are passing, etc. HAHAHA! May I make a suggestion. You were really huffing and puffing at the end of the video with that uphill ride. How about one day investing in an electric assist bike. I have one that even has a full throttle. My bike riding has put a big smile on my mug. 😁
Thanks! I don't believe electric bicycles are allowed in bike lanes when not using their peddles... I'll have to follow up on that. As for the huffing and puffing, that's all part of the fun and work out. An electric bike might be a great idea for the winter or if I'm ever injured but for now since Toronto is relatively flat I don't even want a bike with gears, single speed all the way ;)
@@JohnnyStrides you're probably best to keep pedaling the way you are. You're in good shape and would want to continue in good shape. Me, I have knee and hip issues, so the electric bike serves me well. Thanks again for the great videos, Johnny. I love watching them.
I used to live on Halsey off of Dawes Road.
Ok found your new site. See you there.
I noticed all the dealership's are gone.
Time to change your name to Johnny Glides :)
Never mind there they are
Would a biker get a ticket if they pass the red light in Toronto? or is it totally fine
It's illegal but there's so little actual traffic enforcement going on a ticket is incredibly unlikely...
Can anyone ans something for me is there a place outside of Toronto name cosco not sure if it spell right or Costco
I’m not getting a head cam!!
That will be on the other channel (tomorrow I believe)!
Is that electric bike allowed on bike lanes. 7:21
I don't believe it is...
🖒🖒
Yay...Mt. Pleasant. It's so...pleasant.
Dominoes??? I'm so sorry.
Dominos Pan Pizzas and their Brooklyn Pizzas are excellent. Don't be a snob lol
It's certainly NOT worth paying double and triple at other pizza shops IMO..
This should be designated an ASMR video because I'm falling asleep...haha not the author's fault..... Toronto is so booooring
Then why are you watching? Troll much... also I'd love to see where you call home... ha
@@JohnnyStrides thank you for being so engaged with your fans...haha this was a trap, I just wanted to see your reaction?
Also,. I lived in Toronto for almost 2 years, worst time of my life... So bugger off!!!
