It’s no good watering the crown of a Cyathea tree ferns it can kill them in cold weather, always water the roots daily until it gets established, and winter protection needed. Hope this helps and good luck it’s a lovely plant 👍
@@Tropifornia well I have four of them and it’s quite difficult to keep them happy, I’m guessing you got this one in the summer and the root ball looks quite small so concentrate on the ground watering but never water logged they don’t like to be sat in water ever . Spring time sea weed fertiliser and throughout the summer and get it growing. I’ll look forward to seeing it at the end of the summer hopefully 🙏
Thank you, I did get it in the summer. It went into transplant shock but came back the following summer. We'll see if it grows back again after this winter. I appreciate the tips!
Definitely a cyathea. I'm suspecting cooperi. It needs mulch at the base and the ground needs to be kept moist - lots of water. I repeat lots of mulch and moist ground for the root ball can root
Thank you for the advice, I did give it lots of water but it must have suffered transplant shock. All the fronds started deteriorating within days and now they are rust brown colored. Do you think it has a chance to survive?
We in the UK tree fern growers Facebook page always say "water, water and water some more. Can you set up a drip system to keep it constantly moist ? Have you asked or know how your neighbour looked after it ? Was it in shade ? Was it in part shade or full sun. You look like you are in a fairly dry sunny place ?
It was shaded by taller trees at my neighbors, so I planted it where it could get shade from my house. They’ve been neglecting their garden and have given me many of their plants. They said to water the crown and it might go into transplant shock, and it did. It started deteriorating soon after. I did water it everyday. It’s been three weeks since planting, all the fronds are rust brown colored, two of the outer fronds bent over pointing towards the ground. I can set up a drip system. I don’t know if it will recover. Thank you for your help!
My neighbour cuts the fronds off my tree fern. So it is lopsided. Looks terrible from neighbours side. I'm planning to move 2 giant ferns to a safer spot in the garden
Nice neighbor you have.😀 I’m lucky, my neighbor loves my garden. But the bananas and cannas have grown so tall that they have created a wall, now I don’t see him anymore.
I haven't made a video on it yet, but it did suffer transplant shock. All the fronds dried up and died. Fortunately, it started growing 4 new fronds the past couple of months. I never gave up on it and mulched and watered it even when it looked dead. I will make a video on it this summer.
Looks really good, I think it’s a Cyathea Cooper

Actually all of your tree ferns are cyathea cooperi. Nice plants!
Thanks for letting me know, I guess you can’t trust the stores to label their plants correctly.
