    Fantastic ReeRee, I love collecting bones too but your dingo skeleton beats all of mine. Taxidermy is still very collectable in Australia. A friend of mine bought an old suitcase a few years ago from a garage sale. It probably dated to the 1940s. Inside one of the pockets we found a tiny green tree frog - about 4cm long. It had obviously been in there for dacades and was vitrually mummified. With its little arms crossed over its chest and it's eves still half open. It's a sad and beautiful little mummy. We kept it. Keep up the good work.

    These thrifthauls are among my favourite videos. Love the couch and tall black candleabra.
    The dingo skull is cool, and the taxidermy thing is something that fascinates me. It's both a bit macabre as well as beautiful.

      imagine i am rich and when i die, if the relatives want my fortune, they must keep me making turns, 3 months each.
      and they must keep me in their house and they must show me to the guests :)))

    I brought my son (was then 6 years old) a Taxidermy Crocodile head. Brought my Husband (Then Fiance) a Taxidermy Raven. Brought myself a Bat Skeleton. I've got 3 Flying foxes buried in both Front and back yard (poor babies were electrocuted. Found a raven (road kill) put it on an ants nest and 6 weeks later collected the clean skull and my friend gifted me a possum skull.

    That's a beautiful piece of furniture and I am busy up cycling/recycling for my cabin and for once I can have it exactly as I want it so its going to be spooky cottage in the woods...Mind you I'll probably have shutters inside and out because the cats are not exactly like my last rescued dog who was a great Dane. I have all sorts of like Medieval peasant ideas like as well as the sleep loft there's going to be one of those old fashioned built in beds that you can close off to the rest of the cabin during the day. There's going to be a lot of candles and medicinal herbs drying as well as the furniture which I am keeping pretty simple and decorated by hand. Your channel seems to have a lot of ideas...I've been looking for things that will fit my character.

    My best and my favorite thrifting item I've ever bought is a family photo from the Victorian times. It has a mother, father, three young children, and two teen/early twenties children. One of the older children is dead in the photo. It's my absolute favorite. Creeps my family and my friends out but it's so unique and I got it for only $1.00.

    I once bought a wolf skull at a yard sale for five dollars. The guy there didn't even know it was real and had spray painted it, done the worst hot glue job I've ever seen and left it out in the weather for what must have been years. It made me very sad so when I got home, I repaired the teeth and fractures properly, re-painted it (because the spray paint had soaked in and looked horrible) and hit it with some clear coat which also seems to have helped. He now lives on the shelf with my other skulls and looks much happier.

    • @reereephillipsbeauty
      @reereephillipsbeauty  8 лет назад

      +TheYellowGoggles Oh, that reminds me of this vanity table I saw the other day at the Thrift store. It was spray painted an obnoxious fluorescent yellow, and it was date stamped on the base as 1899. I was almost in tears, because it had such beautiful carvings.

    Hey there! I just found this channel and I am enjoying it. I'm just leaving a comment to say I am pretty positive the little girl picture is a part of the "crying boys" series (even though some of them are girls) done by Giovanni Bragolin in the 1950s. One painting in the series, just named "The Crying Boy" is believed to be cursed. There were buildings, both residential and commercial, in the 1950s which mysteriously caught on fire, usually destroying everything in the building EXCEPT the paintings. Like i said I just found the channel and I'm not sure if hauntings and curses are the kind of thing you're into, but I thought it was interesting, have a wonderful day!

    Love your video, my best thrift shop item was a Victorian vanity I'm actually in the process of stripping all the white paint off but that is not original to the piece it's Mahogany Wood and originally had a darker stain. I got it for $30

    • @reereephillipsbeauty
      @reereephillipsbeauty  8 лет назад +3

      Nothing annoys me more than when people paint over beautiful hardwood (especially when the wood is in good condition). I saw someone put chalk-board paint over a mahogany carved provincial bed frame!!! I was in pain watching it :( xx

    • @kimthongdee1
      @kimthongdee1 8 лет назад

      ReeRee Phillips i know! I see a lot of people do that and I'm just like why do that the paint covers up so much details on the wood carvings. To make it worst the paint on the vanity I have is house paint, like you would use on the outside of your house.

    Bone jewelry tutorial would be great. Do you often harvest found bones? I'm always curious what other people do for their cleaning. I like to clean as little as possible. My best antiquing find was a beautiful antique table base made up of sphinxes. It was missing the marble top, but it would have been cheap enough to add a wooden one. At the time, I did not have space for it and every time I think about it, I regret not getting it. ;_;

    • @reereephillipsbeauty
      @reereephillipsbeauty  9 лет назад

      +HeavyMetalJess I am lucky that my parents live on property (and I'm moving to the country in a couple months), so when I am cleaning tissue off bones, I will either shallow bury it in a flower bed (it really helps to bring nutrients back to the soil) or place it in a large tub with some water to allow the water to soak off the tissue, and then I will allow bugs to eat the remaining tissue. It takes a couple weeks, but its easy and natural :) xx

    • @heavymetaljess_
      @heavymetaljess_ 9 лет назад

      Very cool. I usually place mine on top of ant mounds to let them get what they can and then give it a dry brush with a stiff shoe cleaning brush. The other methods always seemed too harsh to me. I tend to like the natural color and a bit a of dirt on my pieces. :)

    Yes more antiques and oddities! I recently bought an armadillo at an antique store and it's easily my favorite thing in my room. I agree about the taxidermy stuff tho living in Colorado there are lots of people who hunt and lots of the taxidermy available is bears, deer, and more mountain type animals like that which are 1. Way too big for me to own but also I don't feel comfortable with the whole "trophy killing" so the dead things I do own I have found in the road or bought from antique stores. Can I be 100% sure they weren't killed just to be used as decor? No but I feel it's better than supporting those who hunt in this state just to put giant mounts on the wall. Also I'm super jealous of both candelabras you got I've been looking for one for a while since I got rid of mine because I wanted a bigger one

      +Coolcumbers666 AN ARMADILLO??? THAT IS SO COOL!!!! I nearly bought a vintage one from a museum auction, but the bidding got to $2,000 and I had to back out :( I know what you mean though, Australia kills 5 million kangaroos every year. Since making this video, I did come across a roadkill kangaroo, so I picked myself up some bones. I refuse to buy them from someone who killed them though

    Once again, great video! You gave me some ideas for my next trip to the thrift store. :) Also, a small suggestion: if you're into Norse Magic and you have enough bones (25, to be exact), you could make a set of Runes. I'm sure it would be very interesting to work with such Runes. :)

    I have that clock! It stopped working years ago though :C It's lovely though. Maybe it's not broken? Does yours have the pine cones at the bottom? If it does you pull the chain and one cone all the way up and the other pine cone pulls it down and that's what keeps it running. Also a nice thing about that clock is that the bird has a little thing on the door so you don't have to hear it chirp every hour, you can keep it closed but still have the clock running.

    I have two prints that depict children crying.
    The 'Crying Boy' apparently has a curse surrounding it and was mass produced in the 70s.The second is from the 60s and is a girl...somewhat similar to yours 💀

    I'm just a broke teenager so I don't really go thrifting, but my grandma does quite often, and she bought two pairs of ivory chopsticks from a rummage sale for (I think) $4 and gave them to me for Christmas

    Yes! Yes! Yes! I would love any bone tutorials. I want to start collecting roadkill for jewelry making, and what I *really* want to make is a large bone chandelier. I also have a question, how do you get over the iche factor when collecting roadkill? That's the only thing that is preventing me from starting. I know once I get one under my belt, I will be fine with it. Yeah, so any info on collecting, cleaning, and assembling jewelry would be awesome. Thanks🐼

      +Jessica Smith When I pick up something that is 'roadkill' I always use large waterproof plastic bags, and thick gloves. Its always best to either pick them up fresh (within 6 hours of death), or when they've nearly fully decayed. When I find something that was recently hit by a car or something, I will either choose between freezing them and taking them to a taxidermist, or decaying them and bleaching the bones. Honestly, its easy to overcome the feeling of it being roadkill. I always keep in mind that I am going to create something beautiful out of a the remnants of a life taken too soon. :) xx

      +ReeRee Phillips Okay, I will try the next time I find something. I think I will start with something small like a squirrel. Thanks for your advice and take care🐼

    My favorite creepy find in a thrift store was a death book, a photo album of dead people mostly people who died from TB in the late 1800's I paid $8 for it.

    I know I'm probably too late in letting you know, but there is a clock repair shop in Strathpine (looking at your Po box address I've assumed you are in Brisbane - apologies if I'm wrong) that looks to fix cuckoo clocks (I bought one for my mum from there).
