Read all his memoirs and so many of this columns. He had a keen eye and said exactly what he thought. He was a marvellous character

Brian...with his beloved dogs...simply chatting at home in his Brianesque way.
    Good viewing...thank you.

I miss Brian Sewell. He really said exactly what he thought. If the art was crap he would say so.

Definitely, I would call it Holistic Conviction, every cell in a sense feels the depth of the subject in a sublime, intuitive way!

If HE thought the art was crap. Big difference.

@@deancj1 That was an integril part of his act. It's showbizz baby. ;-)

@@IbnBahtuta I understand, but you used the term "if the art was crap". A lot of times he looked foolish.

@@deancj1 Yes, spot on. We watched him plum mouthing his way into history. He was very very funny and a -pillock- pillar of our establishment. ;-)

I disagree(d) with a LOT of Brian Sewell's opinions, but his knowledge, elegance and forthrightness always provoke thought and discussion. Sewell was a True Academic, in the best and worst interpretations of that label. He was an ALPHA ENGLISHMAN, in that he seemed to believe that if you didn't absolutely agree with him, then either you were ill-bred or simply under-educated. As an IRISHMAN, it's strange that I find him rather charismatic. xx SF

This great critic shows just how poverty stricken general education is, with regards to art and art history..

Nice accent! What is often forgotten is well shown in this video: Grünewald was not alone. Behind the knowledge of the Altar of Isenheim was over 400 years of spiritual work by the Anthonites in healing with God's help. This deep understanding of the story of Christ was shared by this community with the painter, who expressed it in a splendid way. This process of healing is very actual in our time.

He makes Queen Elizabeth the Second sound common.

Many years ago someone said on tv: 'His posh accent would make the queen laugh!'
He must have got some stick for it during his national service!
