Just got back from Green Cove. Chestnut Mountain Road is clear from Taylors Valley to Green Cove. Grassy Ridge Road is almost clear to 58, the linemen said that was the worst tree damage they have seen so far. Konarock is accessible, the K-Rock store is serving meals to the community. Entered Green Cove Friday through Chilhowie, past Konarock, then up 58. Returned today East on 58 towards Helton. Helton and Sturgills is bad. Continued on to Lansing, bad but folks are getting it done.

@@Curated_Properties_Explores More information specific to the Virginia Creeper Trail, Whitetop Station is fine, can see trees blocking the trail from the road crossing. Green Cove Station is fine, supplies available at the community center. Through Green Cove you can see lots of trail damage from the road with pieces of trestle debris scattered around. Green Cove Collective store flooded a bit, they had crews cleaning up and helping around the community. Their bridge across the trail is no longer safe. The trestle at the Grassy Ridge Rd crossing is missing the middle support, sagging and unsafe. On the other side of the crossing a landslide has destroyed large sections of the trail. I expect the damage just gets worse down to Taylors Valley and on through Straight Branch. Perhaps the Whitetop to Green Cove section isn't in such bad shape and could reopen soon.

@jhbailey929 Thanks for the information,. How about the section of white-top laurel creek from Straight Branch up to Creek junction? Is this section of creek even assessable?
      Thanks,

@jhbailey929 hello I've got a question I hope you can answer I've got family on gentry creek road right there as you get into laurel bloomery you turn left go up by the elementary school an they love uo on gentry creek i wonted to know if we now can get to laurel bloomery my cousin sges mentioned something in the past about they onve had to go up through Taylor's Valley because part of the road between laurel bloomery and Demascus was temporarily blocked due to mountain slide or atleast I think it was Taylor's Valley she said I'm not very familiar with that area
I lived in demascus not too awful longago and worked at a garage owned by Charlie Fields it was a two story white building with a bunch or old cars all around it just as you turn right off main street headed towards back bone rock I lived in my off grid van worked Monday thru Friday an came back to Tazewell County to mow an do things for my mother she's up in her 80s
I knew only one person when I came to stay in Demascus Chief of police Mr Kermit Turner best law enforcement officer I've ever met he's fair but by the book he also is over the fire department aswell as his son works on fire department an I've heard he now works as a officer there
can't tell them two apart from a distance they look so much alike
I pray the people of demascus recovers soon I fell in love with that little town and one day won't to move there permanently every car I worked on I got to meet the owner of and not a single person left without introducing themselves and making it known I was welcome there
I greatly appreciate your indepth efforts you took in making these videos and the effort you put forth in trying to help the community in the recovery efforts that told me you are a good man and you now have a permanent new subscriber I also would appreciate any information u can give me about weather I can make it to gentry creek road in laurel bloomery I wonted to go to demascus an help but I've became permanently disabled and awaiting surgery my health has took a bad turn on me.
Thanks again for such great video footage and God bless you and your family

What it did to 58 is just terrible. That was an amazing road that I've motorcycled many times, and also used by the bicycle shuttle companies. Hopefully that gets rebuilt, but damn what a mess the storm made.

I've been wanting to ride the Creeper with my boys(17yo&6yo) and we were really bummed to hear the trail was damaged but we're heading that way Wednesday and planning to ride from Abingdon to Damascus and spend a couple nights there then ride back to Abingdon Friday. I appreciate your videos and the locals should as well because I had given up on visiting until I watched this.

My adult son's childhood friend was diagnosed with juvenile diabetes. Now as an adult in their 40's, he has to take a loan out every January to pay for his insulin and other diabetic meds so he can get his insulin. Then he has to make sure he gets enough work hours for the rest of the year to pay off that loan so he can start the same process over again in the new year since he can't find insurance to cover his meds. He has been doing this for 20 yrs. He has been cheated out of a life of being able to afford to buy a house, get a decent car, etc, all due to greedy pharma and insurance companies too cheap to help out.
