    Whats your opinion on looping? Is it lazy? Or is it just as valid as chopping?

    • @alexunder_ground
      @alexunder_ground 3 года назад +64

      I don't think looping is lazy, but easier to start with.

    • @lilghob
      @lilghob 3 года назад +27

      In emo rap is pretty common to just loop da shit i think, like guitars mostly, i like that authentic vibe but its lil bit scary for me to loop samples like that because of clearance issues, lol

    • @slaxxer113
      @slaxxer113 3 года назад +20

      Depends on how it is used. Mac Miller was a sampling god while some people just take a loop and drop some drums on top of it. It can help to get out of a beatblock though

    • @txddyfarquh69
      @txddyfarquh69 3 года назад +9

      I don't like to loop but when beatblock arises?...I turn to looping lol up until I can start building melodies around the loop then I delete it.

    • @user-lt2rw5nr9s
      @user-lt2rw5nr9s 3 года назад +6

      You already said chopping was where the creativity comes in. If everyone used the same sample, how would your's be different? Plus, I love the chop gods and if you saw how well they can flip samples, you'd probably want to emulate that.

    So glad to see someone making tutorials who puts a huge emphasis on subjectivity. Been going back through your videos and can easily say they've been exponentially more helpful than a majority of other FL tutorial makers for trap/hiphop, if only because you leave everything up to experimentation and don't try to force weird rules on your viewers. It also helps that your tips are genuinely unique and not on the "this was a cool a year ago and now I'm making a video on it just for the views even though everyone else has a similar video" bandwagon.

    This was fantastic video to watch. As someone who can both “make beats from scratch” and make “sample based beats” fairly well, I thoroughly enjoyed the in-depth descriptions of small key elements like chopping so it sounds “musically correct” without technically being perfect, etc. Do more sample shit.

    • @baygeldin
      @baygeldin 3 года назад +3

    • @3moryk
      @3moryk 3 года назад +3

      If at all possible, incorporating both DAW's is a game-changer because they are amazing in different ways. Ableton's time warp is a dream but I'm like addicted to FL or something idk.

    • @InitialDL84
      @InitialDL84 3 года назад +1

      Yeah I've been saying the same thing, just makes much more sense in the long run. I think it's because of how the structuring of the overall FL Studio software is set up. I use both FL Studio and Ableton; love FL Studio's workflow since I've been using it for so long, and I like Ableton for it's time warping capabilities and how easy it is to use external instruments with it.

    • @HazyJ28
      @HazyJ28 3 года назад

      I actually prefer the modular format image-line chose for FL. Having newTime as a VST instead of baked in functionality gives you finer, more granular control. My particularly favorite part is being able to manipulate the metadata of a sample in newTime- Thus, when I drag and drop it into slicex, the tempo information is already correct.
      That being said, however, I can definitely appreciate Abletons "Time Warp" function being right underneath the main I/O playlist section.

    Dropping samples in Ableton's Sampler automatically warps the sample to the bpm, which eliminates the need for the extra work

    Man I have a love/hate relationship with newtime. Most of the time it makes my files sound like ass, all "blurry" and muddy and not nice. But sometimes it works and saves me so much time instead of going through and slicing and stretching everything by hand.

    • @NavieD
      @NavieD  3 года назад

      Hahah yeah it worked well in this example but if you have a really dense sample and you do some extreme stretching, no matter what you use it will end up sounding awful
