    Hi Dan!
Not come across your videos before... first time viewer here :-)
I know what you mean... I wish that they had more confidence in this series of Doctor who, and had commissioned more episodes, which would have allowed more of the stories to be told as two-parters. I think that this story is a perfect example of that.
I think we could have enjoyed more of an "explanation", by having this story split over two episodes, and really seeing some more detail about why that "Prime Minister" had to be stopped - that would definitely have given it more impact, and a good payoff for the viewer investment into the story.
I think part of the "open to interpretation" excuse is actually down to the fact that they started with a great idea, but weren't sure how to detail some of the plot points... so they just didn't bother... leaving the viewer to wonder about it, and make-up their own filler-bits.
That way, they make it seem a more "clever" story, than it really is.... and if the viewer doesn't get it, then that's the viewers fault, not the production team's.
Thanks for a balanced review... and you are very easy on the eye ;-), so no doubt I will be back :-)

I totally agree with this comment.
It was a very good episode.
But as the episode went on, I was expecting to see a big finale that explained everything that happened, but we got that plot twist (it's still shocking).
However, there were many unanswered questions that seem to be left for us fans to answer, such as: How did Ruby become the old woman and travel back in time, or why did the Doctor disappear?
Many fans say that we have to be open-minded and draw our conclusions otherwise you didn't understand the episode, but for me an episode should have been like that and they should have given an official explanation, because leaving that to the fans doesn't make sense to me.
In my opinion everything that happened was part of Ruby's powers. And I hope everything will make more sense when Ruby's secrets are discovered.

The Ghostlight of the modern era. I agree it wa pretending to be clever rather than answer the main narrative. At least Ghostlight was open to interpretations from viewers.

I'll give you why it took so long to develop. The idea was solid enough but the time to explore it was too short for the run time. So they had to pad it out. The only scene I have seen was about 20 seconds too long on the pitch. They tried to do suspense but kept breaking it with all the cutaways.

    Great video.
For me, as the series has gone along it has felt as if RTD left all the story telling to the last minute like a piece of GCSE homework. Political messaging is evident, but character driven plots, character development and actual Scifi not so much. I'm hoping things improve and the actors are given scripts to show off their talents. ( Look at how great Jodie was in that Italian Villa episode Villa Diadarni? )
