Reminder to everyone, while this Mare is doing good right now, she is still in the critical zone and can pass at any moment no matter what CC does. Send that good ol' mare all the positive vibes and/or prayers for the next two weeks because being 20+ and that emaciated means a lot more can go wrong. Its just the nature of the beast when it comes to these kind of rescues. And if she does pass the rainbow bridge, then at least she was well taken care of in her final days.
@@Hayson898 the way she followed CC around, and ate and drank so well,,,she’s gotten with the program and I hope it ignites a sparkie sparkle in her for the best outcome. Thanks for reminder ❤️
@@plankface That is the hardest part of rescues and it why I stopped. Sometimes you get an animal in and everything is going great, they get that spark to live back, but the body just can't handle it. It seemed a special moment when she first arrived and the other horses were all standing there watching. They seemed to be saying, "we welcome you and honor you. Welcome to your new home full of kindness and love"💜
That flashy palomino didn't really need you but this girl does. Thank you for rescuing her so she wont end up feeling betrayed by humans and giving her a chance no matter what the outcome turns out to be.
I bought a horse a few years back and ended up having to put him down within six months of buying him. A lot had gone on with the people who had sold him to the lady I bought him from: they took advantage of her not knowing anything about horses and sold him as fifteen years younger and completely healthy, which he wasn't. My plan had been to get him back in good health and sell him back to her as a kids horse, which he would have been great at, and I would have given her all the instructions on keeping him healthy and happy once he was better. People around me were mad at me for buying him, but I didn't care. He needed me. Sometimes, we do everything we can, but all we are meant to be is a soft place to land. I'm so glad there are people out there who can be that place for such gentle souls like this
Thank you for intervening, thank you for not looking away and for choosing her. And even if it might mean you have to make a tough final decision. In the end it also means this sweet heart was not just thrown away, she was not left alone to suffer a prolonged, excruciating, painful death in either a kill pen or a slaughter factory… It will mean, that eventually someone did care, and that she mattered.
So thankful to you for helping horses so in need of help. You're not afraid of an older horse to rescue and that says a lot about your compassion and passion for helping horses.
blusurf - You put that perfectly. Absolutely agree. CC thank you for making the choice of horse that you did, she can now rest, eat and feel the care you give. Maybe you could call her Hope.
Hope is the name I thought would fit her. You could see the change in her eyes in the shorts. She went from resigned and hopeless, then gradually brightened up and started showing interest in Clever . Hope was back at the end of the second short.
I love how you show and share all your thoughts and actions And when you called her and she walked right to her I saw her fearlessness or thankfulness...yes.. with wanting to join you. Love your passion You love for horses has actually interrupted my life in a most inspiring way. So thankfully you share details. Love and blessings to you
12:50 Isn't it amazing how many people still don't understand that even an old and sick animal has the right to a life with love, good food and the safety of not being thrown away like a piece of garbage? I think that humanity would improve a ton if more people started thinking and acting like CC!
Most people regard other people as just as disposable as beat down animals.....my mother was tied down 24-7 in her "nursing home" for Alzheimer's, and yes it was illegal. That doesn't really matter very much.
You can tell how sweet she is and she has such a soft eye. Thank god you took her in. My heart breaks for the unfortunate souls that end up being purchased by kill buyers 😔
Thank you for deciding to share this video. I want to see ALL your horse journeys, even if short or negative. Thank you also for saving her! Whatever time she has left on this Earth, I know you will make it the best for her! Thank you for everything you do!
I rescued a buckskin who turned out to be in foal many years ago. She was in worse condition body score wise than this pretty mare, but was a bit younger. One of my triumphs was taking her to open shows, after her recovery and training, and beating high dollar quarter horses, including an AQHA champion. That mare turned out to be one of the loves of my life. I have high hopes for your pretty lady.
@@Cleo.R I don't think they could. I'm sure the only stud CC had was studman until he to was sorted. I may be wrong 🤔 either way I agree. The Mare is in no condition which is alarming if she is pregnant. But the Mare demonstrates remarkable spirit and determination already with CC care, attention and devotion. I've got my fingers crossed and positive thoughts sending over the Atlantic that there is no serious complications found when the vet comes and it is just a case of time, nutrition and love the Mare needs.
This girl looks so relieved! She obviously intuites that she's finally safe! Thank you for this, CC! Now take care of yourself; we get colds when our resistance is low!
No matter how long this mare will stay with you, she is in the best hands! She also seems like the sweetest girl, I'm so happy you were able to take her home.
Thank you especially for saving her from the horror of the trailer trip to the slaughterhouses in Mexico. I have read stories recently that were heart breaking. Age 26, and just had a foal?? Bred nearly to death then dumped into the slaughter pipeline. You are her mrracle. If she is in foal and you enable a healthy birth, that would be two miracles!!
I would love to see this girl thrive, and drop CC a pretty little foal in the spring, for all her hard work! (But she's so big now, I'd honestly be concerned that she might be due in the middle of winter, if she is in foal!)
@@SilverFlame819 agreed! That would be an amazing story to follow. Really happy when I heard that the veterinarian is already scheduled to come out in a day or so. That will end the suspense. A cute, healthy foal would be awesome.
Your money, your time, your decision, your horse. Don't let the internet bully you into doing anything. It is full of strangers who have zero idea about horses and have even less of an idea of who and what you are. Do what you want. Its literally our privilege to watch what you do and learn from your content.
She must have been well loved in her past. Seeing how she stands so easily as you clean her off on a snowy sunny day makes me think she was a star when she was younger. ❤
I wouldn't be surprised if she was a competitive reining horse who was then sold to be a broodmare. I bet her old owner would be so sad and mad to see what happened to her horse after all these years.
Im so glad you showed a proper quarantine, so many horse rescues on You tube seem to forget or do not know this impoŕtant step to protect horses, when acquiring a new horse.
Yes! Same with dog and cat rescues….i see so many videos where the new horse is not isolated from the others - much less the changing of clothing as well. So critical.
@@lizzieb6311 Hi I watch because a lot of what CC does, applies to dog rescue. I fostered dogs for 10 years, and it all is the same. My fosters were in quarantine for 2 weeks. All of that time was rehab, monitoring behaviors, food/leash/boundary training. No foster dog ever shared any illness/fleas with my dogs. It's really important to just be safe. Same applies to volunteering in a shelter, clothes and shoes come off before coming in the house..(.not at the front door but you know what I mean)...everything went straight in the washing machine.
@@TheCleverCowgirl I have fortunately missed those experiences but personally know people who went through that. Every horse that was out when the vets came had to live out (at least there were shelters) and every horse that was in had to stay in their stall, no relief, for months on end (horrible!). And there were deaths. All because someone brought in a horse with no quarantine.. 🤬
Instead of wasting time with ill feelings toward her previous owner, I’m just going to pray for her to have her best life going forward. Bless you for bringing her home with you.
@@kayhenry6293 I would bet money on the fact that she has had some, probably many/several good owners in her life, or she would not be so calm, gentle and willing when handled. I would venture to say that she just 'slipped through the cracks' of the somewhat slap-dash management of a herd of breeding mares, and was simply disposed of in the most expedient way when her poor condition was noted - cruelty by omission, rather than comission, if you will.
So many mass breeders of horses do the bare minimum. If she really is 26 years old, it would be a small miracle if she had already had a foal this year or was in foal now. She’s in such poor body condition that even if she were younger, I would doubt that she would ovulate. But I suppose anything is possible. I truly hope not for her sake.

I agree. We also don't know the situation, so it's better to just focus on the poor old mare and hope that she makes a full recovery. If she doesn't, that will be sad, but at least we'll know CC tried to give her the best care possible at the end of her days.
On the USA day of ‘Thanksgiving’ which has morphed into a day of gluttony, it was a pleasant diversion to watch C.C. turn the ‘giving’ part of the holiday’s name into action. Not only is C.C’s ability to nurture and rehab horses to a better life, her ability to document it via excellent video production along with her excellent writing is a form of excellence on to itself. Thank you for a special Thanksgiving Day.
Usually a horse that is as kind as her and wants to be in your presence has been well loved at some point in their life. Oh the stories they could tell.
As I watch CC with her horses and with this new mare I keep thinking of the novel Black Beauty by Anna Sewell. A biography of a horses life from being bought and sold from one owner to another.... some good, some bad, indifferent and so on.... a heart wrenching story for sure that fortunately ended up well. Hoping this new mares story is going to end up well to.
PS… Also don’t hesitate to share the risky bits. At least for me, this makes you and your world even more heartfelt and real. Just like the occasional wonky camera angle it reminds us that this is REAL in a world that sometimes seems so edited, perfect and artificial. Well done!
In remembrance of Skelly. Love and hope to this girl. CC, you are her best chance. Ty for sharing your journey with us. We are all rooting for you and your horses.
Agreed. These sweet and lovely girl has been produced foals - and likely a lot of money - the for monster that “thanked her” by dumping her off at the kill buyer auction. Disgusting. She was thrown away because she’s no longer pushing out big bucks for him or her.
@@MsSonali1980 Exactly…and the freaking horse racing biz is equally as evil. If they make no money on the track - it’s on a truck to Mexico for them. My friend rescues these off track TB’s and trains them at her facility. She buys from owners at Tampa Bay Downs. She then works with them from anywhere from six to twelve months and sells them typically to those looking for a nice hunt seat or jumping prospect. Many of the OTTBs are calm (which is why they never won races) wind up becoming trail horses. Horses don’t stand much of a chance here when they are “too old” to be useful or too expensive…off to auction they go…disgusting
@@lizzieb6311 In Germany it's different, here are no auctions. But you can sell the horse for the kg price to a horse slaughter (depending on what meds are documented for vaccination in their papers) and if they think the horse is still fit enough to get sold on they have young people (mostly girls/women) who will invest their time in training them while they get fed back to life. The others get slaughtered (probably also after getting fed to gain weight). If you want to get rid of your (ill) horse, you either sell it (for cheap) to someone (privately or to a trader), or you give it away for free to someone who wants the horse, or you bring it to the slaughter. If it is already on the edge of dying and suffering the vet will tell you and put them down. I think in the US, where horses are still used to work, the auctions are more "practical" to buy and sell than our concept here, where you visit the horse seller usually.
I think Ziggy will have another girlfriend. And maybe Scarlett will have a grandma. Keeping fingers crossed that everyone comes through the harsh winter safe, sound, healthy and happy. Including CC and her husband. ❤❤❤
No matter what happens if something goes wrong at least she will have known love in those last days. But I am really pulling for her ,she has the sweetest eyes and temperament. They way she followed you around after only 24 hours says a lot about her ability to bond.
Her body language throughout this entire video radiates stunned surprise tempered by a sweet, docile, and abidingly companionable nature. Yet, despite that passive nature and her poor condition, she gives every indication that she's a survivor. I bet she makes it, and that she gets more spirited once it sinks in that this is her forever home. I'd like to submit the name, "Luna" for her if you think it fits. Thank you for being the one to intercept her at the sale. You are the right person at the right place and time, and she really needs and deserves the better future you will give her moving forward.

CC went through the arduous task of searching the internet for her next horse and took a methodical and investigative approach. But her heart loudly told her which horse to bring home. There was a reason. God love you, CC, for listening to that voice and bringing home this beautiful, loving girl who once was loved and will be loved again. So grateful you were sent to her. Everything happens for a reason 💝 Much respect.
Yup. Tip of my hat to this little horse angel. Too few of her in this misbegotten world. Wish I could do more as well, but my years ofvthat kind of intense effort are gone. . . 😏
Whatever time she has left, thank goodness it is with you. She will receive all the love and care she needs to make the rest of her life so much better.
I will just never be able to understand people who throw animals away. Especially once they reach their old age. It's despicable. This sweet girl was incredibly lucky that you found her, and if nothing else, at least she will know peace and care. But hopefully she will be on her way to recovery! Thank you for rescuing her, CC❤
CC said in this video that this old girl was a broodmare and recently had a foal weaned off her. Most likely, she was on pasture with a big herd of broodmares, and didn't get enough feed, what with the drought this Summer and all. It's terrible the herd manager let her get in this shape. Given how valuable some of the foals can be, I would think the care and feeding of the entire herd would be a high priority.
Hi CC. For the last 15 years I have adopted the oldsters. They all had issues but once the health probs were on the back burner they were the nicest horses I had ever owned. I adopted one at a time and had them until they crossed the rainbow. My current mare is in her 20s and was starved. But I am thankful for every day she is with me.
I don't know anything about horses, but your kindness to them always makes me feel uplifted. I am glad you are sharing this story. Even if it does not have a happy ending, it will be good to know that the horse received love and care along the way.
I am not allowed to film at the auction but if you want to see what it is like here is a very good documentary on it that was done a few years ago.

@ it was earlier this year. He got supporting limb laminitis because he was so lame on the one hind leg. He couldn’t take enough weight on it to keep the other hind leg from breaking down 😭
You just made me start crying. Well done. I loved him, too. I burst into tears over him.
The way she follows you around about made me cry. She’s such a trusting animal regardless how she’s been treated in her past. It’s heartbreaking.
Me too.
I have to say, you are not just a Clever Cowgirl, you are an AMAZING Cowgirl. May the Lord bless you for all you do. I am so glad you purchased this girl. Tears.
I'm with you. Well said.
🙏🙏🙏🙏
Much wisdom and well put, Hayson. I pray for CC and her beauties every night. Special prayers for her new beauty..
Omg I’m crying at the comments I do hope she gets well thank you cc for buying her and bringing her home ❤❤

Refeeding and bottle feeding baby animals(especially small ones like squirrels) is the most stressful thing. CC has the mental fortitude to do it. I was a complete wreck.
No matter what happens, in the near future, she is in a loving and generous home now, when she needs it so much.
She hears soft and gentle words now. That matters.
Even if her situation may not improve, she has this short time of caring and compassion to sustain her. As you said, someone at some point must have loved her, as we can all see her lovely character. I already love her!

It seemed a special moment when she first arrived and the other horses were all standing there watching. They seemed to be saying, "we welcome you and honor you. Welcome to your new home full of kindness and love"💜

The boys being so quiet and somber, when you pulled the trailer in with her.... They knew. Well done.
They knew all instantly.
I'm so glad there are people out there who can be that place for such gentle souls like this
She must have known love sometime in her life, and she chose you. Thank you for sharing her story. She is special.
It feels like Hope would be the perfect name for this sweet, precious girl.
I agree! Hope would be the perfect name for her!

I also felt Hope would be a lovely name for her! Trusting she will pull through and thankful she came across your path CC! ❤
You didn't choose her... She chose you!
Thank you for intervening, thank you for not looking away and for choosing her.
And even if it might mean you have to make a tough final decision.
In the end it also means this sweet heart was not just thrown away, she was not left alone to suffer a prolonged, excruciating, painful death in either a kill pen or a slaughter factory…
It will mean, that eventually someone did care, and that she mattered.
This made me cry, so beautifully said! ❤
@@pretzel2272 Same here 😭

So thankful to you for helping horses so in need of help. You're not afraid of an older horse to rescue and that says a lot about your compassion and passion for helping horses.
blusurf - You put that perfectly. Absolutely agree. CC thank you for making the choice of horse that you did, she can now rest, eat and feel the care you give. Maybe you could call her Hope.
Hope is the name I thought would fit her. You could see the change in her eyes in the shorts. She went from resigned and hopeless, then gradually brightened up and started showing interest in Clever . Hope was back at the end of the second short.
@@SuzanneHinds-q3k I also saw that glimpse of hope in her eye's. I'm willing her back to health, slowly and steadily with CC.

You love for horses has actually interrupted my life in a most inspiring way.

She's a sweet little princess and I'm so glad you brought her home. She's safe now and she knows it.
My heart melted when you washed the gunk off her and put on her warm, snug blankies! Bless your hearts. Now I'm gonna go cry! ♥

@@CraftyZanTub Ziggy is a gelding. She does look a little pregnant.

What a sweetheart! She really wants attention. I can see why you couldn't pass her up. Blessed be, Mare, you landed in the best possible home.

Next thing you know, she might foal and Ziggy will rightfully deny paternity ;) @sussiemikkelsen1764
Your money, your time, your decision, your horse. Don't let the internet bully you into doing anything. Its literally our privilege to watch what you do and learn from your content.
CC does what she thinks best for her herd, regardless.
Adding a new horse, she does the same ... for the sake of the new horse and the establishment.
She must have been well loved in her past. Seeing how she stands so easily as you clean her off on a snowy sunny day makes me think she was a star when she was younger. ❤
I can see that little spark still a-blazing.
I wouldn't be surprised if she was a competitive reining horse who was then sold to be a broodmare. I bet her old owner would be so sad and mad to see what happened to her horse after all these years.
That what i thought to or roping @@CricketsBay
Im so glad you showed a proper quarantine, so many horse rescues on You tube seem to forget or do not know this impoŕtant step to protect horses, when acquiring a new horse.
Yes! Same with dog and cat rescues….i see so many videos where the new horse is not isolated from the others - much less the changing of clothing as well. So critical.
Iv'e seen a few outbreaks of strangles and ehv at boarding barns. Something you'll never forget if you have to experience it!
What is strangles and ehv?@TheCleverCowgirl

Thank you for a special Thanksgiving Day.
she really is a great writer, and her delivery is soothing and utterly genuine
Usually a horse that is as kind as her and wants to be in your presence has been well loved at some point in their life. Oh the stories they could tell.
As I watch CC with her horses and with this new mare I keep thinking of the novel Black Beauty by Anna Sewell. A biography of a horses life from being bought and sold from one owner to another.... some good, some bad, indifferent and so on.... a heart wrenching story for sure that fortunately ended up well. Hoping this new mares story is going to end up well to.
I love how she follows you and totally trust you. The boys are going to love her and fight for her attention

Agreed. These sweet and lovely girl has been produced foals - and likely a lot of money - the for monster that “thanked her” by dumping her off at the kill buyer auction. Disgusting. She was thrown away because she’s no longer pushing out big bucks for him or her.
@@lizzieb6311 That are people who sell high priced fillies but they don't care about the mares.
I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again…….you’re awesome 🙂.

We don't know this girl doesn't come from a home where the owner died.
