Kinda freaking out, I hid under house, pointed iphone up to the sun and looked at the screen to view, I hope I am ok now;( during Eclipse, had no idea I couldn’t look at image on the screen, to see eclipse, obviously i knew not to look at it directly.
The suns radiant energy still persists when not taking a picture and pointed at the sun. That's another way of saying the lenses can concentrate heat on your lenses and sensors and damage your optical train like plastic lenses and sensors. There's no shutter on the phones optics.
I have question if I may. I purchased a SANDMARC Telephoto 6x for my iPhone 15 Pro Max. I sent SANDMARC an email about what solar filter I should use. I received an answer we do not have a recommended filter for the solar eclipse. However, you can definitely use the Telephoto lens 6x as a stand alone when taking the solar eclipse event. Then I asked, Ok, thanks for the reply. Are you also saying I don't need a filter if I use the Telephoto 6x on my iPhone 15 Pro Max? Nothing is going to get damaged on my phone or Telephoto 6x lens. Their answer was Yes, that is correct. So they are telling me no solar filter is needed and I won't damage my camera. What do you think of this? Seems crazy to me
Sorry about the late reply. You cannot use the lens without a filter unless the sun is being eclipsed fully by the moon. You may be able to cover the lens with eclipse glasses as long as they fit properly and there are no gaps.
Thank you! Getting ready for the April 8 2024 eclipse in toronto

My phone still works perfectly over one year on from this.
So its an nd filter?.
Did your phone camera get damaged due to filming the eclipse?
I would say no, because he use the glasses over his camera to protect it
