Remember building the revell model of the Olympia way back in the 1970's as a kid. Enjoying this series of videos as live in the UK and the chance of ever seeing her in the flesh is somewhat slender. Keep em coming.

Very little mechanization except for the ammo hoists. Lots of manual labor in passing the powder and shot by hand. Very interesting and claustrophobic passage ways and dim lighting for hard dangerous work. Get me out of the magazine and sign me up to be a gunner.
    Very informative video.

Could not imagine the “ BANG “ when the trigger was pulled , inside the ship.

Was there ever a case of war ships of this era where a shell hit the magazine and went kablooie, we all know what happened to the Hood, just wondering if it happened during this ships active service

I'd like to know if they had the ability to flood the magazines or at least had overhead sprayers to cool it down in an emergency. I couldn't telling Theresa's anything in the overhead tangle of pipes.

Saw the Olympia and the Becuna back in 2017. The tour wasnt so much a tour as it was "here go wander around the areas that arent roped off" i remember being a little disappointed by that. Still cool that its there and you can see it all in person.

The roped-off areas are not safe
That never stopped the Navy from sending crew members into those places

It's hard to believe this ship was built in the 1890's and she's still with us in 2021!!.

Almost doesn't look like the inside of a ship, with the worn concrete-like cork and paint. More like a cave bunker. (which it is, but under water)
