This is the 8th episode of the Coffee Break Sessions. Last month I came across with the 1st song in this set "Гая-Аман Яр" and it blew my mind!! Then I started to dig online for more records from USSR. I managed to collect enough records for one episode! I think I'm going to make a part II of this series because there are a lot more amazing gems. So let me know if you find this episode interesting:)

Thank you so much for giving us rare and unique USSR music. You have excellent taste in music and I have already bought a few of the albums you have featured on this channel. Thank you so much.
@@Zach_Bloomquist Same, this dude is the real deal.
Damn, I had no idea the Soviets were ever this funky!

That one started me on this guy. Grrreat stuff
Same here...
we were so high at some point that we couldn't distinguish Назарій Яремчук from the Japanese OST's
Wow I live in Kazakhstan that is one of the former USSR countries
When I saw this video in my recommendations, I expected to hear only Russian songs
Cause you know everyone now seems to think that culture of USSR is only Russian culture and they often neglect the fact that it consisted of 15 to 16 counties with their own culture
I was pleasantly surprised when I heard the first song of this playlist (I even subscribed to your channel)
Thank a lot 👏👏👏
(Maybe one day when you create another USSR playlist you might add a Kazakh song too :))
jeez, i was 100% certain i'm the only one from kazakhstan here! been following this channel since the scotland trip, and still in love.
Kazakhstan power unites
Same with Russian Federation. Even the university inside Baikonur gives diplomas issued in Moscow...
If I learned something about soviet music is that the best grooves or the sickest jazz ussually came from the Baltic republics, Kazakhstan, and Caucasian republics
Dude i am from Turkey , as soon as i heard the first song i was like wtf , i understand most of this lol
Im tatar, and the song in 25:18 is from my republic of Tatarstan. I was so glad to hear this mix on my fav channel. It made me so homesick and the warmth in my heart will stay for some time at least. Also, big respects to former ussr countries. We were a big family once
It was my favorite song in this mix 👌😑
One of my favorite in the set and can understand it a li bit.
Obsessed with that song!

Wow, so weird. Im from Baskortostan, and im partly Bashkir-Tatar. Its so cool to hear some grooves from my humble place!
Thanks for digging these up!
This is a fantastic mix, I'd love to hear more! 33:05 might be my favorite, probably because I love the song 'For What It's Worth' by Buffalo Springfield haha! А.
is a close second favorite, so dang groovy! Thank you for putting together this new collection!!
From Russia with love. )

I always knew Communism was groovy
Our souls have always been, no matter the regime
We actually never reached there)) they kept telling us about "well-developed socialism"))) so yeah it was a great illusion all the way and we believed it))) so yup we grooved)) the legend says Brezhnev was mad about Boney M. What does it say about the leader of the Soviet Nation?))
Communism was and is
stinky shit !!!
but mix good ))
Jonathan Fox Communist regimes slaughtered more people during peace time than all wars and conflicts in the 20th century. Add to that the pointless suffering of hundreds of millions of people.
No, communism was no more groovy than nazism (and they had cooler uniforms) but the people of the East Bloc were resilient and resourceful, which I admire them for.

Some additional recommendations that could make up a very decent follow-up, if the vinyls are available.
Soviet-era Azerbaijani music was very diverse and well developed. Muslim Magomayev was the best known performer, a true megastar, he sung mainly classical and orchestra pop, but also some folk-influenced music.
For some Central Asian grooves, try the bands Yalla and Gunesh. For East Slavic prog-rock and funk, Pesnyary and Ariel. Georgia was famous through its multi-instrumental band Orera.
Was that last song a Russian version of For What It's Worth, ending with Smoke on the water? Epic!
I don´t understand the languages, but there´s definitely a bunch of flow in this! Thanks for your cool sets!
Actually here is not only russian language.USSR was multinational country, so here is some ukranian, azerbaijan etc performers.
Mandatory 'In Soviet Russia, these grooves dig you' comment. Great set!
The real find for me was the song of the ensemble Shatlyk. I, as the son of the Tatar people, thought that it was difficult to surprise me in terms of music in my native language. Thank you for this gift.
Wow, memories from my childhood. Thank you!
Pretty please make more on Soviet music! This is beyond epic!
This is great! Never thought these songs could sound like this 😍
This is incredible. I've been to Russia but never heard music like this. For all those people who only know Red Army marching tunes or TaTu, this is an eye (ear?) opener. I'd love to hear any more of this that you have and to learn about the artists. I've already been down the rabbit hole on Turkish Anatolian music thanks to your channel. :)

Верба похилилась;

The song at 8:15 makes me cry. It's exactly how I experienced my vacation in the 80s in communist Poland as a child. When I stayed at my grandparents and went to town with my Mama random truck drivers took us with them to town and back. People had little but were happy and ready to share everything.
You do not get it, it was tyranny and evil dictatorship, whatever happened there
