About the missing 'spice' for the party story - I heard the first Tiana animatronic say something like, "Go see Louis to find a band for the party.." Then, as you've been shrunken down and see the frogs and fireflies playing music, Louis remarks that you've found so many band members. Finale scene mentions that 'what you needed was here all along' ie the band members. Maybe they didn't mean a literal spice but that a band would 'spice' up the party.
The topic of finding the band felt like a consistent theme throughout. Just a thought!

This is a weak ride and they did it cheap and fast and we can see it. I'm extremely disappointed and I hope that once Beyond Big Thunder happens and is operational, we get an upgrade to this. Special Spice is not the ear worm this needs and I have no idea why Almost There is included. She's already there. It doesn't make any sense. The story is also weird. @@VirgoDoll Ok, so your saying a ride with over 100+ animatronic characters was boring? The A1000 model can NEVER EVER be compared to the jumping Brer Rabbit mechanism, due to the intensity of how the hydraulics worked on him, also the amount of money they spent on JUST that character. Not to mention, one can easily see how deformed the TBA storyline is; where we are "needed as musicians" for the Mardi Gras, then becoming frogs, then attending the party? SM on the other hand consisted of a story that fit together just like a puzzle; Brer Rabbit is leaving his home in the Briar Patch, we, the audience, is taken along with his travels, until being caught by Brer Fox and Brer Bear, finally escaping by going down Chickapin Hill (the climax drop) and returning back to a party for Brer Rabbit's return home. Plus, even if the characters aren't recognizable, one can easily see the protagonist and the antagonists of the ride. TBA can be getting a win win for the outside work, but Splash Mountain easily grounds down it for the storyline, plot, and even the animatronics. Just do some background research on both rides and come back to me with a good rebuttal. 😃

Before the second drop, there is about 3 15 second intervals of pitch black scenery before they transition to the auto animatronics. Too dark, missing Dr. Facilier and Ray since it is a sequel to the movie, replaced the finale party scene song with an original song (but should have had a song from the movie instead) and Tiana in her Princess dress (like she did in the concept art). Too much “dead” space where they could have put a lot more critters (which would also help with lighting). Not enough build up to the final drop (which should include the Shadow Man) and took out the riverboat, which would have fit perfectly in the ride and could have been an homage to the original ride. It is a cute ride, but considering it is supposed to be mostly for kids that are “Princess and the Frog” fans, it should have more details from the movie IMO-like the Little Mermaid ride.

I think the re-theme is a good thing, personally, but I do think that lack of tension will ultimately be a hindrance. If kids want to ride a ride like that, they're generally old enough to handle the tension. If they were crying it's their parents that misjudged.
That said, I think that could be easily added with some new audio at some point and minimal adjustments. So I hope Disney does up the tension at some point in the (near) future - maybe a year or two from now.

Some food for thought: Dark rides/attractions both of the tame and thrilling variation are not limited to being only for Fantasyland; Magic Kingdom and Disneyland are full of dark rides/attractions in other lands of the park (pirates, Indiana Jones, space ranger spin, space mountain etc.) so, the common complaint that dark rides do not belong in other lands and even other parks has always been irrelevant. For the Magic Kingdom, Tiana's is a wonderful addition to complete Adventureland, and for those arguing that there's continuity issues with it's theme and where it sits, literally none of Frontierland or Liberty Square make cohesive sense based on location. Both lands are spread out and broken up so aggressively at that park 😂😂.

I think they missed the mark on this one.... Even tho some of the animatronics look great the over or ride looks bland and the story telling seems ehhhhhh....
also that is how the water looks in the bayous from a Louisiana native. lol

I have a feeling some of the more dimly lit areas might be unfinished and Disney didn't want them to be seen just yet? Overall, looks good to me. I agree with the lack of cohesiveness in the story, there's too much repetition of Tiana stating how good the band was and should have more emphasis on the search/adventure aspect. I'd give it a B+. Hopefully Disney will learn that updating old rides into new attractions isn't as cost effective and should just demolish and rebuild from the ground up! (Looking at you new Tomorrowland for Disneyland)

Has anyone ever watched videos of when New Coke premiered? Coke got people on camera proclaiming how good it was and that it was better than the original. As we know, sales didn't reflect those same thoughts. There can be pressure to like something because it's new and fresh. I believe time will tell the actual narrative of this ride and how it will be perceived. My high-level thoughts are the animatronics are excellent. Still, they chose quality over quantity in the animatronics causing a lot of dead space and a lackluster storyline. You have to nail it on all fronts when replacing a beloved product with another.

I think the water is pretty close to bayou or swamp water 😅 I agree that they need to add some more lighting. I love the colors of the lighting they do have, but the outside parts for sure need more bc there’s so much detail. I don’t agree that it belongs in Fantasyland, I think it fits in great, but do see where you’re coming from with the “tension” of Splash. No matter how many times I rode it, those vultures and that song always was suspenseful!! I’m so excited to ride it regardless!

Respectfully, that blurb you posted about the story doesn’t say anything about a spice lol. It says “the missing ingredient,” which doesn’t mean a literal cooking ingredient. The band was the missing ingredient.

  • @brandoncsantoro

The majority of the storytelling definitely happens in the queue. i.e. The license plate and other objects noted missing on bulletin boards in Tiana's office (that Lari and the other critters may or may not have "borrowed"...) make up the core instruments of the critters in the final band. The queue plaques and artwork definitely push the fact that Tiana is hosting the party and that there was a mix-up with the musicians. (She comes on the radio frequently to advertise that they're looking for replacements.)
But I'm with you that there's a small element missing. If this attraction were built from scratch, there would be a short pre-show or additional scene. As it stands, we skip the story beat of Tiana, Naveen, Louis (or whoever it may be) coming up with the idea to visit their critter friends in the bayou to sort out the music problem. We're never technically "recruited" if you will - we're just sort of told that we're already in the midst of doing something. For folks unfamiliar with the movie or riding without any information on the refurb, it might feel a bit random.

The ride has a decent exposition and conclusion, but there's nothing of substance to hold up the middle, especially for what is supposed to be a thrill ride.

  • @rvvanlife8113

They don't need a virtual queue. Only a few people want to ride (probably just for curiosity) so the lines will be fine. This seems to be way more stereotypical and problematic than Splash was. I can't stand it. The music, the stupid moving plants at the beginning, the lack of any kind of story, the failure to include "Get Ready", the characters without character, etc. How can Universal plan out such an amazing park and Disney comes out with...this...🙄

I agree with everything you said, down to not seeing Louis in the vegetable garden and the spice storyline dropped. I can't believe Disney released a POV without showing everything in the queue that established Tiana's Foods and the salt mine. Without showing that, they established a negative perception that hopefully, with videos like yours, will improve. 💙

    Where is the "adventure"?
This should have been a boat ride attraction on a new flat track, a la Small World. The climbs and drops are irrelevant to the weak, adventureless storyline. Little kid level animatronics. There were 100 better uses of this ride track. This is a major fail for Disney.

I also suspect that the 40 inch, and taller, kids did not seem to have an issue prior, so why did the Disney un-Imagineering group think this was a problem?
