Hey Doc, I've been experimenting with some weak/brown spots on my lawn with this technique. I actually caught this tip in one of your other videos. I just used some cheap top soil and started seeing results within a few days! Just wanted to share my experience!
The very same brand of pitting soil has it changed since you made this video because the bags I see today have a lot of barks and huge chunks in it. Nowhere near as fine as you describe.
Your videos are great. Where are you located? I live in Southern Japan, where the weather hot, humid & wet. I have B. grass from seed. You said don't over seed B.G. sod. By "sod" do you mean a lawn started from rolls of sod as opposed to seed? Thank you.
Nah, you're cool Doc don't call yourself that way, anyway thanks for all the good tips about lawn, looking forward for your coming videos, good work 👍👍👍
Hey Doc! Love your vids! Can I use compost instead of potting soil? Is it as good? More expensive? Also, why do you mix it with sand? I didn’t hear on the vid why it needs sand. Thanks in advance!
I see that you aerated those bare areas, do I need to do that as well? Or can I just place the mixture of sand and potting mix on top of those bare spots? I’m going through the same issue now, bought a brand new house and all I have is bare spots around the house, the further I get from the house, the better it looks. I did the digging method and found all kinds of crap in my yard, and still finding crap. I can’t wait to try this method.
How To with Doc What about irrigation? Does this need to be watered in somehow? Thanks in advance for your videos. That Bermuda calendar video has my corner lot the talk of my neighborhood. I’m constantly getting asked what I did to my 10 month old lawn. I just forward them your video.
Water before you put it down and them treat it as normal. In those rocky areas I have to spot water during stress periods, so just treat it as you normally do, just put down topdressing. I use POTTING SOIL. Reg soil has too much bark and wood fyi.
I purchased a new house that the yard was neglected and it’s driving me crazy I applied new Scott’s seed in late spring applied fertilizer 2 weeks ago and ironite and I’m getting some yellow and bare spots I would love to show you some pics and get your opinion

Thanks Doc, this is great information, much appreciate all the great advise,
This is super helpful, thank you. Can this technique be applied to steep hills too?
Thanks for the great video. Do you water that in?

Doc you did not put down any seed. Do you do that after the potting soil. Thanks Jimbo
My only question is why you mix all purpose sand in with the top soil. Is it to help hold on moisture?

Both will help, but top dressing will make the most difference.

No seeds?

Fescue seed?
How To with Doc sorry I fortgot to mention it’s Bermuda
Roots are shallow... grass is new... water heavy then top dress with some potting soil. You just have to hold the moisture in if at all possible.
Hi there doc - ive scalped a few patches of lawn straight to dirt. Would i need to add seed mix to this combo to get it to come up like yours?
Water then top dress with soil a little. Bermuda roots are deep.
How do you connect to the link below?
Do you add grass seed to your blad spots? How does the grass grow?
Was wondering same thing lol
He doesn't add grass seeds. Bermuda grass spreads through runners and roots into the bald areas. Hope this helps!
you should have a turle pond in your yard
Big help. Yeah!
Do you the spread grass seed onto the new patches?
No seed if its Bermuda.
Hey doc do we need to water this in? I followed your steps 2 days ago and it’s all dried out. Not sure if I should be watering this
Yes, keep it moist like new sod.
Would it works if I just put top soil without the mixing?
I feel like the sand helps hold it down.
Why didn't you put seeds under the dirt?
