Agreed. My comment was going to be that this machine really shows its potential value in this video. Looking at the preview image I thought he was going to upset the end, a lot, to make the poker end. Nice job!

I was surprised to not see Johnson’s on the shelf as well. FYI Minwax has taken over that product it looks like 👍 it’s even cheaper but is the same thing . It’s even the same color container .
Ethan and Timothy did a great job with those. Very cool, and it's awesome to see reclaimed steel being put back out there as tooling.

I hate to hear that Johnson's is quitting the paste wax business. I've come to love having those little tins around the shop for organizing things! Minwax offers a similar product that I've used over the years and I don't think it's any different than Johnsons, but the tin it comes it in is a bit different in shape.

Howard makes a paste wax in pretty much the exact same container. Not tried it yet, but will give it a go once my Johnsons wax runs out.
@@Vikingwerk I'll have to give it a looksee. I buy my wax by the case, so I have a goodly bit of Johnson's left to get through before I have to worry about finding new stuff. I've tried the Minwax in the past and found it as functional as the Johnson's stuff. If Howard's is good.... well, it never hurts to have options!

Really nice, John. I'm not into blacksmithing so my interest in your channel is the creative process. As such, I like to see you use all your power tools whenever it's practical. I'm not here to learn but I know many are.

I am glad I found your channel, I use to black smith years ago and life got in the way. for several years I was a part of a living history program so I got to work on some really nice old style shop, that was a lot of fun and I learned a lot. I lent my tools to my nephew and He moved away so I am in the process of replacing some of my tools. I found a swedish made Anvil at a yard sale the other day, its pretty rough but still serviceable. maybe one day I will have someone fixing it up for me. Paid 60 bucks for a 110 anvil , I know I got a screaming deal. back 30 years ago I had a rivet forge that worked pretty well but that is gone. so I was thinking of picking up a gas forge.. not planning of selling anything just making stuff for my own amazement. Thanks for the videos, its alway good to learn something new.

Nice finish to the animal head. I think making the head, then making it into a poker was a great pair of videos. Now I will have to check out Timothy Dyck’s channel.
The Saymak hammer sounds exactly like a yanmar or kubota Diesel engine running. It always had a familiar sound to it and I couldn’t figure out why. Then it just clicked. 🧐

i've done DIY paste wax. it was really easy, and you can tailor the ingredients to get specific results.

Check online for the paste wax. I was able to order a container of it, or should I say the wife did. Seems to me she told me they had multi packs of it?
A dragon scale twist would look awesome for a handle grip on that pice.

That's a great looking hammer. It almost looks like yo need a specific set of tongs to hold the head on the poker
Yes, A pair of bolt tongs with an over sized bow would be useful.
I watched this fabrication knowing you were going to form a log hook on the tip. I even had it in my head how you would do it. Funny thing is, I fully expected you to split the "fat end" from the other end of the section and then bend it out. Totally surprised me. My question is....would it have worked ok to split it from the upper section? In short, is it optional where you split it? Thanks.
Should work fine from either direction but it might have a different finished look

Great work as always. Question on the reclaimed rail hammer, or more so of the steel makeup of it. Do think it would work for hatchet/axe heads? A quick internet search says modern rail is 1084 or something similar. My forge welds are hit or miss so I'd rather stay away from welding in a hardened bit. I'd really appreciate any insight you could share.
