    Great comparison! I've had a pleasure to play bunch of vintage Fender combos at my friend's place and the RevivalTREM gets really close. Basically you get almost the same sound without all of the hassle that comes with maintaining a vintage amp.

  • @gcoller
    @gcoller 4 года назад +8

    Hmm, 50% of the sound of the pedal is being affected by the amp, cab, mic. Would probably be a more interesting (or at least a different) test to put the pedal into a cab sim. My guess is if you put 10 of the same model vintage amps in a room they'd all sound pretty different depending on how they were used/stored/abused, etc.

    Amp sounds awesome.

  • @LysergikFuneral

    I think a lot of the difference comes from the speaker in the Fender. If you redid the test, it would be best to use the speaker in the Fender for both amps. It would be hard to A/B but maybe use a looper to take playing dynamic differences out of the equation. People really underestimate how much a speaker affects the final tone of a rig.

    I have been waiting for someone to do this demo. I preferred the amp. Which is a shame because it’s unobtainable. Love origin stuff though.

      The Tone its from the Hamstead. The tremolo and the drive its from the pedal. Dont compare TONES, compere drive and tremolo only.. ;)

  • @ModNicGuitars

    Did the Fender have the original speaker? I think the pedal nailed the lower gain and tremolo sounds but they were really off on the overdrive and higher gain. Great video as always, thanks!!

    I can confidently say that I can get my RevivalTREM to sound much closer to that 61’ brown deluxe amp with my setup. I’m using a Silverface Fender 68 custom Princeton reverb. It’s just a matter of dialing in the pedal with its EQ switch and frequency knob (I can get those fuzzy trebly tones) . It’s sounds like that Hamstead amp is very dark sounding. Fun demonstration nonetheless :-)

    Although I appreciate the effort, this comparison fails because of the methodology. The pedal is being colored in a not so flattering way by the amp that it is being plugged into. It should have been obvious that the pedal was sounding too thin plugged into that amp, and that there should have been some low end compensation qt the amp to make up for the difference. Just because the test amp was set clean, it doesn't mean it's giving you what the pedal is putting out. It would have been better to use and IR/Speaker Emulator with the Origin Trem to hear more accurately what it is capable of.

    The pedal wins for me. It’s a fraction of the price and I’m already in debt because of my Two Rock Classic Reverb Signature 😅

  • @mractamt123
    @mractamt123 4 года назад

    The amp has a weird break-up at times but I don't think it's much of a comparison. The RevivalTREM has the tremolo spot on but you can't beat the amp in my opinion. By the way I'm really glad you like Queens of the Stone Age!

  • @fossilmatic

    There is a huge difference. A choice would depend on which sound you would prefer, but no way does one do what the other does.

  • @bradruhfel4883

    So far the amp wins hands down. The pedal sounds a little hollow.

    • @riloh58
      @riloh58 4 года назад +1

      Agreed. I found myself desperately wanting to mess with some eq (either pedal tone or more likely the eq controls on the Hamstead) to get it closer. I have the RevivalTREM but no brown face to compare it to.

  • @craiglizt8074
    @craiglizt8074 3 года назад

    That brownface sounds killer! The sound through the Hamstead/Origin isn’t bad at all, just sounds too scooped. Too many variables I guess.

  • @yokotaiei540
    @yokotaiei540 Год назад

    I think the demo would be better if you ran the pedal straight to poweramp via effects return. Because it is more of a preamp than drive pedal. Of course you can run straight in, but then it goes through hamsteads tone stack and preamp. And then it is not anymore brownface sound.

  • @JJGuitarGearReviews
    @JJGuitarGearReviews 4 года назад +2

    in this demo, the amp has much more distortion, and sounds more dynamic. the pedal sounds boxier.

  • @LesPaulVOS
    @LesPaulVOS 3 года назад +2

    Why not run pedal through effects loop Send?

    • @yokotaiei540
      @yokotaiei540 Год назад

      Exactly! Now the pedal goes through hamsteads tone stack and preamp. I think with this kind of pedal, its best to go straight to poweramp via effects return. Because Revivaltrem and Magma57 both are more of a preamps, rather than just your typical drive pedals.

  • @smellytele9629
    @smellytele9629 4 года назад

    Too many variables to make it a fair comparison, so I'll take one of each please LOL! Kidding, I already have the RevivalDRIVE, so I just need the amp, thanks! I think the RD could probably be dialed in to be darker like the actual amp, but I actually prefer the brighter tones.

    I got tremolo covered with my Silvertone 1482, but how about Reverb? I have yet to find a reverb pedal that comes close to a built-in spring reverb on a Fender amp.. The most authentic sounding so far is the Danelectro - Spring King. Decisions, decisions..

    I have to say, although it seems really simple, I really like the composition of the shot with the yellow on the carpet being called back to with arrow, the bass, and the roll of paper.
    Regarding the amp vs pedal, both sound great to my ear and I'd be happy to play either!

    The Tremolo sounds dead on, the drive from the pedal falls far short of the amp. The pedal sounds fizzy in some clips and just doesn’t sound like tubes. I’m sure I’d prefer Tremolo from the pedal and dirt from the Hamstead assuming the Hamstead has an FX Loop. No need to settle for solid state drive “amp like drive” when you’re plugging into a tube amp.

    • @LivingroomGearDemos
      @LivingroomGearDemos  4 года назад

      That's interesting to hear, because I find the amp to be fizzy compared to the pedal! :)

    • @kikomarty4337
      @kikomarty4337 4 года назад +1

      I agree but it's like a natural pushed pleasant sounding fizz vs the pedal which doesn't sound lively with a layer of high frequency sitting on top. The full frequency of the amp vs the pedals limitations. Really they sound nothing alike recorded. I bet that hamstead could be made to rip too though.

    • @TheBenb1999

      Yah obviously the problem with amp dirt is it doesn’t sell as many dirt pedals.
