I swear I cried. I would love to work there as a musician. It is just unbelievable, beautiful, heart-touching. To help people around the world to start their lives again, to find a purpose, to heal. Let's built a better world together! You have my full support (from Greece).
To whom it may concern My name is Franklin Altuna from Caracas Venezuela Musician from *El Sistema* I would like to have a word to somebody. Please it is an S.O.S
I am the most senior member of the English division of the Sistema orchestra. I'm now 18 and am going on a trip around the UK with my violin in march. It will be the first time in 12 years away from my orchestra family and I must say I'm nervous, but excited. I want to show the younger division what is possible for them if they work hard and carry on.
Did your performances in spring 2021 work out well? Do you still perform as a violinist? If you do, is that with or without the orchestra? Good luck! 🎻
This is so inspiring. Amazing to see how music can change the lives of so many people...specially kids. This is something I feel really proud of as a Venezuelan.
Utterly inspirational, Tchaikovsky once said "For music alone life is worth living". One of the most beautiful and memorable documentaries I have ever seen. This programme is an example to the world.
Dios!!!! Se me pusieron los pelos de punta!!! Sobretodo al final escuchando la 3era Sinfonia de Beethoven de manos de la orquesta y Gustavo Dudamel! Que viva Venezuela carajo! Ejemplo musical y social para el mundo!!!!
I'll tell you, I'm part of the English sistema orchestra and it changed my life. I have been playing violin for 12 years now and I'm 18 and leaving home as a professional violinist thanks to my orchestra family. It means the world to me.
Excelente documental. Me alegra ver plasmado el otro lado de Venezuela. I am excited to hear about the other side of Venezuela. Thanks for the video and the story.
what a great idea, we all need this amazing sort of human treatments by creating the love of music and in particular the great classical music in the heart of our young generations which in the end leads in to emergence of talented nations away from wars and its sequences...
Fantastic! This brought tears to my eyes. I strongly agree that when young people have an investment in their lives and in their societies, they will value both and do whatever they can to build them strong. It does my heart good to see this happening in a place I love so much, Latin America.
"The World Values Survey has consistently shown Venezuelans to be among the happiest people in the world, with 55% of those questioned saying they were "very happy"." Venezuelans have gone through hell and back more than once and are a resilient people and im more than proud to be one
The work of Abreu started many years before there was an American hating president. As a matter of fact Abrae is a doctor in Economics and his work has nothing to do with Politics. The work he does is actually a good way of integrating poor children into a higher educated society and preserving capitalism. Unfortunately there were not more people like him sooner in that country to prevent what happened there. Great work maestro and god bless your work and these Venezuelan Children.
So proud of these Venezuelan children! Unfortunately there are many poor people in Venezuela because of the corruption of the government. Thanks to the Lord because the spirit cannot be broken!
And thanks to Venezuela we can bring the magic of music to many children all around the world! Almost 70 countries have developed their own version of El Sistema, like us in small Cyprus with our program, Sistema Cyprus. x
Bravo Venezuela!! Unfortunately, in the USA, one of THE richest counties in the world, young musicians are left to fend for themselves (assuming their parents have some extra bucks in the bank for lessons, etc). Music in the schools (with programs being cut left and right) is just considered a hobby. In Venezuela it is a symbol of national pride and not only do the children receive free training, but the instruments are subsidized as well (probably borrowed between generations). Given that 70% of the children come from poor families there is no way they can afford 5 to 30 thousand dollar instruments such as bassoons, harps, Tubas, etc. It would be interesting to know how many of the kids continue once they return their instruments after finishing high school.
But its not too late to go to venezuela someday. I also plan to do that. I think to triple the project to one million students is the plan for the next decade. The long-term plan is to give cultural education to ALL venezualan children. I want to go to Venezuela as soon as possible to help them with that goal!
Ok the record shows I ran across the genius who God put in charge of this extraordinary group of musicians. Youngsters who elsewhere would be mere elementary students. Any mortal with half a brain knows it's their Conductor whose
WOW! But the only thing I didnt like in this documentary was that played Beethoven's Eroica (3rd symphony) at the end played by the most famous "Simon Bolivar Youth Orchestra" (I think so) while showing pictures of the children's orchestras as if they also were already playing in the quality the best Venezuelan orchestra does...
Excelent video but instead naming it "how music SAVED Venezuela's children, i'd call it how music HELPED Venezuela's children, sounds better, the first way sounds like kids are being shot day after day, despite that, thank you for posting it, shows the good face of my country.
Additionally, considering the economic value of this investment, it was no less than a miracle - could you have done better in pulling a state out of poverty?
@reinux Too late it has already happened. These kids will have children of their own, some day in their future, and just imagine what they will produce, and how Venezuela will become a cultural superpower. Plans are to triple music for poor children to one million students. A symphony orchestra in each village in Venezuela.
Hi axter! Hope you're reading this. I'm Ana, 26 Venezuela, and I'm currently doing my MA in London. I'm doing a presentation on El sistema for my Uni and I'd like to use this video! Do you have any link where I can download it in .avi format? Thanks!!!!
Hi Ana! Were you able to download and use this video? I am in the same boat as you and I'm concerned about 2 things in using this for my presentation: copyright and video quality. arXter, is it possible to use this video in a presentation about El Sistema? Thanks in advance!

There's only one problem with this video, it was made 11 years ago and the wonderful children are likely standing in bread lines or scavenging for whatever food they can find today. A lot has changed since then......

I must say that I am surprised that such racist hate speech could come from the heart of a fellow lover of gardening and classical music... I would think that watching God's creation grow and listening to the music of some of God's most talented musicians would soften your heart and give you more love for your fellow man... may your heart soften so that you can measure a man's worth not by his race or country of birth, but by his words and deeds.
If you were only as careful with what went into your mind as what goes into your belly... I must say that I am surprised that such racist hate speech comes from a fellow lover of gardening and classical music. I would hope that watching the wonder of God's creation and listening to music composed by some of God's most gifted creations would soften your heart and help you to be more loving and understanding of your fellow man.
and what country are you from? those are words of someone from the USA, who thinks that you live in a wonder place. there is poverty in all countries, but the poverty in the USA is growing faster than any other nation. you forget that the poverty level of this nation was much worse, it has gotten better over the past 30 years, which speaks volumes. they have free healthcare, and the literacy rate has improved greatly. the difference between them and us, they have pride.
