One of the most satisfying things I've ever made ! I know it sounds silly but when you finally get all four tones working it's great. my nephew is gonna love this too, thanks a lot Steve, this was great boredom BUSTER !!!
Dear Steve, Thanks for this awesome video. I saw someone use this today as a classroom management tool. They are not easy to come by where I live, but with your tutorial, I used my hand tools and had one made up this afternoon. Such fun! Thank you for the plans and the detail you put into your video. Cheers
Hi Steve! I just made this for my 4 year old son! He loved it. I took 4 hours though, but he stayed with me the whole time, super keen to hear the chuuu-chuuu!!! Thank you so much for uploading this video, and better yet, making available the PDF file. Cheers from Groote Eylandt - Australia.
Thanks, Steve! Following your instructions, I made a Train whistle and a simple thumb-sized whistle for my grandson from scrap wood in my garage, and they both work great 👍. I'll be checking out your other postings.
This has to be one of the most fun projects I've watched in a long time. Thanks, Steve. ... but it seems a bit dangerous. What if a youngster blows the whistle causing someone to jump in an effort to get away from the train, hits the counter, knocks off a slice of bread which lands on the floor, peanut butter side down. If the person cleaning up the stuck bread is allergic to peanuts, they could easily break out in hives.
Thanks a lot Steve! It's our 'diner is served' sign for the kids. A lot of fun to make with my youngest son as well. Greetings from The Netherlands! Remco
Hey there Steve, I just wanted to say, keep up with the great videos. Me and my other class mates have enjoyed your videos in my middle schools woodwork shop. Our teacher, Mr.Steinbaugh has shown at the beginning of every class with one of your videos for about the past month. I cant wait to see your Christmas special video.
Another winner Steve, I have had one of those whistles, (commercially made,) for years, and always wondered how they made them. Thanks for enlightening me. Great fun stuff!
Totally awesome, Steve. I am doing it for a construction project in class. Thanks for showing me how to make one so easily. If I get an A, It will be AWESOME!!!
Super cool. I'm going to make several of these for my grand kids to drive their parents crazy. You know, like they did me when they were kids. LOL. Thanks for sharing and the plans.
i wish i had the tools you do, my backup drill got knocked off the bench last week and broke and my main drill was stolen from my car, i have a jig saw and rip circular saw. bah i wish i had even the basics to make the stuff you make. until i can afford tools il watch your videos and dream. keep up the good work and congrats on your sponsorship
I remember the last couple of days in school I made one in the wood shop. It was a single tone one that was obnoxiously loud. Everyone hated me that day lol. Still have to make the 4 tome one eventually :D
good lord Steve I'm glad I found your channel thanks for your sharing your woodcraft expertise. Possible to make a how to make sliding doors like closets and stuff would be nice. Thanks again very educational channel.
Gracias Sr Steve he visto varios videos y me han parecido muy interesantes lo mslo es que no hablo ingles y me cuesta trabajo entenderle pero lo felicito pues se que voy a aprender bastante de usted por su atencion gracias
Lovin it!! Great the way you've made more with different pitches. Now how about some Adirondacks, maybe a chair with footrest ? I've seen some plans but would like even more to see your take on the build. Thanks Steve for your many hours of hard work making informative, instructional and entertaining videos. Weeeee like em!
Nice job! I wonder if different wood types would have differing sounds? As an aside, I'm currently drinking a Celebration Ale per your recommendation. Not bad at all!
Hey that project is as clean as a whis... a well you get the picture, question how do you train a whistle? seen one made form a tree branch looked quite cool and it keeps the green folk happy although don't cut it off a tree or the tree huggers will be up in arms, G
nice! my daughter already has one and loves it, but I'm thinking I could really annoy my brothers and sisters by making a bunch of these and giving them to my nieces and nephews!!
WOW! that´s rely fun whistle! Can I make one really loud, like with compressed air? I´m participaiting in a Carneval parade whit a DIY steam lokomotive. Should i go for a larger pice of wood with longer and over sized holes to get a real deep sound or the same 2x2 with larger holes? Thank you!
Very Nice !! I actually might make one with that deeper sound, i really like that one. I rembember when i subscribed when you had about 3000 or 2000 subscribers, i have to say that you have become very awesome not only at your woodworking skills but video editing and all that stuff !
Hello Steve, I know this might be a bit more manual than your usual doings, but have you thought about making (or already made) videos on carving? I'm talking bigger carving projects, like masks and figurines and such. (I know, it's most likely not in your "jurisdiction", but I've not been able to find any good carving projects online).
So, just saw this a couple weeks ago, down loaded the plans and tried making 2 last nigh for my Grandsons. Had to go back and re-watch the video as I remember Steve adding the top piece, but it's not on the plan. I'm going to correct my template tonight, but Steve can you add that cap to the plan? Thanks.
I think it'd be fun to drill the holes all the way through, then cut the bottom off and glue different length dowel rods to the bottom piece making a train slide whistle.
A perfect gift for the children of parents you hate.

What a simple and beautiful project for children. Kudos to you!
You're right! I just need to hook up a motor to these.
I had no idea they were as complex as they are. I guess I took the simple train whistle for granted. All joking aside, great project. Thanks Steve.
Love this guy. Great ideas and so fun to watch.
Thx I'm a Teacher for Woodworking in Germany (Bavaria) i will build this with my Kids.
Love your updated version. You came a long way in 9 years!

Looks like a nice extra xmas present for the kids, think I`ll make one as well!

Wow, super easy! Think I will make one for my bike.
I would like it really deep so I may try 3/4 in. holes or perhaps just deeper, hmmm.
Thanks Steve
Great job mate love your sense of humor
How about a how too, with the food color dying process.
Prepping of the wood, and mixing the stain...
Thanx Steve...love the videos
This video just saved Christmas!
Excelente , gracias Steve saludos desde Argentina . Great Proyect !!!
Great little project Steve, I think I'll try one but turn it on the lathe.
Take care,
Carl
A couple of people have asked. I thought the few shots at the end explained it all. I'll see if I can clarify it in my next Mere Minutes video.
Love it! Got two boys ... means I got two of these to build! Thanks for sharing!
Hey that project is as clean as a whis... a well you get the picture,
question how do you train a whistle?

G
Great project! I'm going to take these up in the woodworking class I teach. Thanks!
Love it Steve! Can't wait till my Nephew comes by & we'll make one.
I wounder how it would sound with three holes. I think it would turn better with three holes.
Great fun! Just in time for the grandkids stockings!
You should make one that has the little pull handle that enables the sound of the whistle to go up and down
If I had the resources, materials, time, and money to make one of these, then I'd varnish it to avoid splinters.
Love your videos, you seem to have a lot of fun making them and that makes them fun to watch! Keep up the great work Steve!
great thanks to you im going to make several for all the neighborhood kids!
that will show all the parent who complain about my shop!
Steve, you never cease to entertain me. keep up the great videos man!
Awesome video. Just wish there would have been a warning that kids may want this and want them now. Lol
nice! my daughter already has one and loves it, but I'm thinking I could really annoy my brothers and sisters by making a bunch of these and giving them to my nieces and nephews!!
Great show I enjoyed it wish I knew how to get plans for it.
A simple job, but fun, thanks for sharing.
Wonderful to watch this.
Fantastic project Steve!!!
Easy and funny. Thanks from Spain!
Terrific! Where do you get these cool and practical ideas? Just right for my grandchildren!
I can back just to watch that intro. So much fun.
Toot Toot! Fun project, I'll have to give it a try. I hadn't seen these for awhile.
