Have you seen the Canadian animated classic Rock 'n Rule?
I'd be curious to hear the entire German dub to double-check it against the subtitles. I definitely expect these to be better than the official English subtitles of "Das Boot".
@@XanderDorn oh my god, I remember that movie. It was featured a few years ago on "schlefaz", die schlechtesten filme aller zeiten" (worst movies of all time) in germany, a little friday night show a la mst3k on a shlockmovie tv station. seeing it here is like meeting an old friend
The german dialogue in this movie ist actually more hilarious than Brandon's subtitles.
When that guy at the hospital got killed, Kay pointed at the knife an said:
"I bet that's from Solingen*"
while Porky replied: "Or Hong Kong."
*Solingen is known for manufacturing high quality kitchen knives in the world
And the villains had this to say when the Professor died:
Henchman: "We should throw his body into the Lake!"
Coordinator: Wait stop, he was a well known scientist!"
Henchman: "Well the lake don't care for that!"
"Macht sie Fettich!"
"Gemacht!"
Solingen as the steel used for it? (knives and giant robots?) The brand is well known here because of the knifes and strait razors.

I have come to realize that in the 1970s, the German dubs for many movies were pretty awesome and actually often add to the movie, especially in comedies.

This German version is actually a bit of a spoof itself. For example the giant robot is called magical "Ballermann", with "Ballermann" being an club of the island of Mallorca where Germans drink a lot and listen to terrible music, or a composite noun of "ballern" (shoot wildly and constantly) and "Mann" meaning "man". Or their sloagan is "mach sie fettig" which literally translates to "make them greasy", but is phonetically similar to "mach sie fertig" which translates to "finish them".
This movie was featured a few years ago on a German TV show called "Die schlechtesten Filme aller Zeiten".
This only makes it better.
A "Ballermann" is actually an old fashioned word/slang for "Gun" or shooting weapon in general...gangster-slang.
Has nothing to do with it. Ballermann 6 even was only opened in 1993. In the 70's nobody here in Germany cared about Mallorca at all, the most popular country for vacation was Italy. Ballermann just is a word a pistol or gun. It was just used to explain the MB on the robot.
The german lines are actually a lot more hilarious than what the subtitles say.
Sub:
"These guys are really unfettered by scruples."
Dub:
"These guys are more evil than what the police allows, and they allow a lot."
Yeah I know enough German that the few clips I heard made me go "hunh? what?"
Actually in the original Mach Baron his parents did die in that cruise and he was picked up in the ocean. The guy with the crazy hair was also part of the original. Mach Baron was supposed to be a sort of second season/reboot of another giant robot show Super Robot Red Baron. Both are pretty entertaining I recommend a watch😁
don't forget the anime 1994 reboot as well
And yea, i need to mention that there's 2 actor from the original series that also participated in the Taiwan/Hong Kong new footage
Mach Baron does have a kickass opening theme.
People always ask things like "why doesn't Voltron use the Blazing Sword first!?" but I say, it's because that weapon takes a long time to charge up so they have to use the weak stuff first to wear the bad guy down enough.
perhaps it works like in games where it has to be charged by performing combos

Yes, logically ultimate attack like that may take enormous amount of energy and they can't afford to miss so using it as finisher is proper strategy.
the Iron Superman looks like a more powerful version of the Red Rock'em Sock'em robot
One of my favorite parts of this channel is how you do so many inside throwbacks, people who haven't watched your back catalogue are probably confused as fuck, and I love it.
That's what they deserve for not binging all the videos as soon as they find out about this show.

This movie has more history than you may think. Not only was like the Power Rangers when they use footage from a Japanese TV show (Mach Baron) mixes with actors from another country dress like the Japanese counterparts, but it was also sold as a movie of another giant Robot. In Spain, Mexico, Latin America and Puerto Rico this movie was Called: "MAZINGER-Z El Robot De Las Estrellas (Mazinger-Z Robot from the Stars)." Manger-Z (or Mazinga Zeto as known in Japan ) is a very popular anime from Go Nagai creator of Devilman. All Hispanic countries watch this show in the 1980's. It was so popular Spain dubbed it calling the Robot Mazinger and the bad guy Dr. Infierno (Dr. Hell). Those were also the names of the bad guy from the cartoon and the hero robot. Best yet was the fact that the bad guy look just like the bad guy from the cartoon.
Yes, kids felt ripped off . It was just another cash grab, but this time from an Spanish movie studio who was ripping off the asian studio.
In Dominican Republic itwas released teatrically as "MAZINGER-Z El Robot De Las Estrellas", but it had fooled me before in a video store.

If you understand german it's easily a 10/10 for the insanity of the overdub. it's one of the greatest overdubs ever done alongside Das Söldnerkommando, Wild trieben es die alten Hunnen and all thos Bud Spencer & Terrence Hill movies.

11:25 For context: the bad guys only pretended to return the boy and the woman they kidnapped. Instead, they replaced them with robot doubles who attack the heroes. The line about lubrication comes in after the robots have been defeated.

That's what I love about this channel. Only you can follow up a review of a well-known bad movie and one that probably got a few new fans to your channel, with a bootleg 70's Asian film that uses footage from another show.

My girlfriend speaks German and pointed out a couple mistranslations. I told her that I'm pretty sure the people making the English translation of the German dub of the bootleg of the Chinese movie made from a stolen Japanese television show surely know what they're doing and wouldn't just make a mistake like that!

Bruno Mattei's *"CRUEL JAWS"* would be a good film to riff, but since some lines, footage, and music are from films by Disney/Lucasfilm (STAR WARS), Universal (JAWS 1, 2, & 3 and Jurassic Park) and others, it'll probably have some clips covered with the "FOOTAGE FLAGGED BY COPYRIGHT HOLDERS!"

Putting in the Gorn from Star Trek was genius! And then following it with a gopher or whatever that was just killed! Dude, you are bring the art of riffing to a new level. This was a great riff/review. Keep up the great work. Making people laugh is a blessing for all.

I'm somehow familiar with its earlier series, Red Baron, mainly because there was an animated version that aired Spanish dubbed on some Spanish language station in the early 00's. So I looked it up and the Spanish dub of this movie somehow called it Mazinger Z, making it even more of a bootleg than the Taiwanese original.
I noticed the "Mazinger Z" on the DVD cover shown in the video.. I wasn't aware Mach Baron was a sequel to Super Robot Red Baron.

Yeah, that’s how I found out Red Baron existed. “It’s Sunday morning and I just ate breakfast. Nothing else is on, so let’s watch the Spanish channel.” And that was a grab bag. Sometimes you got dubbed Western shows, sometimes you got dubbed anime where they didn’t censor a thing.
@@Dynaman21 I think it showed on Sunday in my area, and I think there was also "Lost Universe" there, too. And they were both marketed as kids' shows. I only really had a High School Spanish class's worth of understanding Spanish at the time, so at least I could kinda follow what was going on. Didn't even know it was based on a tokusatsu show until years later when I saw that version on DVD. I was very disappointed the anime didn't follow. I loved the episode where the guy thought all his household appliances were his family and wanted to track it down again.
The German voice-overs are absolutely hilarious. I almost want to watch this version just to hear them.

I am from Germany and the dubbing is so silly. For example, the professor uses to say "macht sie fettig!", what should mean "beat 'em up!", but in german it sounds like "make them greasy!". Weird! 😂

I'm in my early 50's right now , i remember watching this movie in theaters in Puerto Rico with the name Mazinger Z back in the early 80's , the Spanish dub of this movie had the same music , special effect sounds , character names and even the same Spanish speaking voice actors from the Spanish dub of the Mazinger anime series , nevertheless this movie didn't fool me or my friends back then when we were kids .
When the professor got hit by the robot's laser, I was hoping there would be a gag where you add an explosion.
Okay, that turning gag killed me.
Based on there is one character in the KSS team is played by the same actor in its original Japanese version, I believed they actually have the copy rights.

I'm somewhat familiar with the Red Baron/Robot Baron series, which I always felt was one of the myriad ripoffs of the GIANT ROBO (Johnny Sokko) series from the 60s. "On the 3rd day he rose and uses the same battle stock footage again." Never get tired of this stuff. great vid!

As every German speaker can confirm, the dub don't match the subtitles. So for sure it's not at all wacky compared to the original audio (considered the original was Japanese, and this movie has 'oryginal' Mandarin dub).

Some fun facts about this movie: It was only released in 3 countries around the world. Taiwan, where it originates, Germany (hence the German dub) and Spain. This is because the Japanese company that owns the footage that was used succussfully sued, but couldn't prevent a German company from buying the localization rights before the law suit came through. The German company had a subsidiary in Spain, so that is why Spain got it as well.
