I have more of a lens breeding problem. They multiply at an alarming rate.
Focus breathing is when you forget that you can crop and zoom in post and instead complain that you need to spend 20x more on a lens
To check if your lens is focus breathing; check for holes and leak. Air get in through those holes 😏
This is one of the reasons people need to give Nikon Z a try. The S-Line lenses are amazing with no to minimal focus breathing.

focus breathing is the most annoying thing when trying to do focus stacking macro shot
Nice short video. But lest thee forget that even big cinematographers like Mihai Malaimare Jr who worked on Jojo Rabbit specifically chose lenses that have stronger focus breathing to achieve a certain style. It does sometimes just come down to personal preference, at least in filmmaking imo. It's like Roger Deakins who yearns for excellently corrected lenses so that the images that come out of his ARRIs are "pristine"; while others like Bradford Young will use vintage lenses from the 70s to achieve a softer, dreamier look. Use whatever fits the project and subject matter; both for video & photography 😁

I really want to know how you guys scout for locations. It's always interesting.
Happy holidays guys! I discovered your channel around this time last year and I've gleaned so much. Just got my first mirrorless camera for the holidays, an x-t200, in part thanks to your stellar reviews!
