I am as far from a brawny, blue-collar hardhat as humanly possible! For some inexplicable reason, I really enjoyed this kit! I also had Ertl's massive International Harvester off-road dump truck, IH cement mixer, a dump trailer, etc.; as well as AMT's Autocar dump truck, Caterpillar bulldozer (amongst others). I had hoped to find a 1:25th-scale kit of what people called a steam shovel (I suppose one now would say "excavator") and a grader.
Ertl was ahead of their time. I wished when I was younger than they would have done the Kenworth cabover Aerodyne. Revell did a great job! I have two of these backhoe kits issued in the 90's. Keep up the video content. Enjoy seeing what you got. As TRACY would say "what you got to trade!" 😂 You do a excellent job with this!
Wow, SO cool you were working away middle of day and Bam, huge score! Your build (er, re-build) and modification to working arms is really nice. Never could afford collector $$ for orig. but did grab a couple reissues at the time.
Thanks, Ben for taking the time to make this. I’m currently rebuilding one. This, and the tractors, are fun kits to build. Have you tried Bossen Implement for decals? They have all kinds of decals for many different tractor makes and models.
Hi I found mine on ebay a couple weeks ago they are still on the way to Canada in the mail. They are the original style white boxes like this but the boxes are damaged. I want to build and heavily customize one and standard build the other for a construction company project with 3 trucks and 2 trailer kits and a bulldozer so not bothered about boxes. They are generally over $100 in the USA plus any shipping and exchange rate. That bit sucks though I'm going to have about $300 in mine. I won't say what the other kits to do these builds with custom parts have cost, other than It's just a good job I don't drink and smoke as well L.O.L .
I would assume Round 2 owns the molds for these old Ertl tractor kits. They should try to maybe reissue them. We have a few lowboy trailer options but only the dozer kit to put on them. Some of these tractor kits would be great to have now.
I had this kit! I would love to find (all in 1:25th scale) 1) a steam shovel, or excavator, 2) a road grader, 3) a steam roller, 4) a crane (similar to the huge, truck-mounted one from which Arnold Schwarzenegger's character hung in one of his l recent motion pictures). How close is the kit polystyrene's yellow to the John Deere construction yellow paint? To the channel operator (I do not know your name): are you a professional announcer? Do you do voiceover work and narration? Your voice sounds vaguely familiar. It just may be that you remind me of someone.
There's all kinds of places you can order from, Hobby Lobby, Tower Hobbies, Hobbylinc. If you go to Hobby Lobby, they always have kits at 40% off. Ollie's has great prices on kits too! Walmart is carrying kits for Christmas time right now as well.
If I get your question William, back in 1991 I bought all Chevrolet kits for that year including a couple promos to put on the car hauler trailer as if going to a dealership. Pickups, Corvettes, Camaro, etc. I would try model roundup, but depending on year, it can get pricey - good luck!
That’s a kit I never did manage to find, great to see what’s in there. It builds up very nicely. Thanks for the review.

My cousin had every Ertl / John Deere plastic model. I was always jealous. At our age He built them without painting anything too.
Yes I love these kit reviews of these old kits
I agree Dennis!
