That's not reaction but a poke that caught Paladin's poke. Paladin lined himself up in perfect range on s.mk for kimberly. Punk could have also had the read and known that if Paladin stuck out any button he was in perfect range for the counter hit. If not it would have caught his guard.
Paladin either thought he was in range to catch him walking forward with a s.lk and missed or he thought punk was going to stick out a slower button.

She's literally one of his students. Just like Ed is a student of Balrog. There are gonna be similarities, but they're still different characters at the end of the day. They have their own style, personalities, etc. Just similar movesets, for obvious reasons.
