- A musical tribute to one of the great fiddle masters of traditional Irish music in the 'Sligo Style' - James 'Lad' O'Beirne.
This transatlantic project links the Irish Diaspora near and far through story, song and music.
The programme features the story of the life of Lad O'Beirne, and his wonderful music, featuring his own recordings as well as musical performances of present-day musicians who honour his name and follow in his footsteps.
An Omedia film produced for Craobh Fred Finn of Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann.

Lad O'Beirne was a great Sligo fiddler and was also good friend to the great Michael Coleman himself and through their friendship, Lad O'Beirne married Michael Coleman's niece Mary Coleman a daughter of Owen Coleman It was Lad's father Philip O'Beirne for which Coleman himself said "l learned all l know about bowing reels from Philip O'Beirne
Finally some justice and recognition of the pure genius which was the late great James Lad O'Beirne
Thanks very much 😀
Brilliant Mary Bergin
Love the bow trebles by John Carty
Great hour of music and insight to this great Musician and Sligo Music .Thank you.
What a beautiful story . Thank you so much .
So many music documentaries contain much more chat than they contain the actual music.
This documentary is right on the mark with succinct well-spoken commentary and ample (and excellent) musical segments.
Plus I’m so excited to learn the actual names of the multiple tunes I have learned through the years, for all of which I have only known by the generic title of “Lad O’Beirne’s.” (I guess the same pattern holds true for the many tunes by Cuz Teahan, Junior Crehan, Paddy Ryan et al).
Very interesting and nicely put together. Thanks to all involved.
Thanks Claire, glad you enjoyed it.
Great hour of music. Thank you all. Like going to a Fleadh without the crowds !

Yes Peter, it's a sad place now. I fear the house may not last that much longer, but it was good to record that sequence for the film.
