I Had cut off the bottom of a gas cylinder and welded it to a 1" plate. For making bowls. Those donuts you made are unique and haven't seen that approach, thought it was a massive solid link until you moved it.
They are made from gas pipe elbows. I made them more than a decade ago. They work Well. I can remember calling a big steel manufacturer asking them for a few round pipes in multiple diameters instead of there usuall 1000 pieces order. I can be a bit like a pitbull not letting whrn I have something in mind so eventually they made the order. I believe it was 10 calls and even more mails. Now with the wide open internet market somewhat rare stuff is much easier to get.
I always found it interesting these didnt rise to a fairly aggressive peak rather than just round. Yes round is strong but 90° ridges are stronger, also better for smacking someone with
Early bosses like this where relatively simple. But later bosses, and some bosses from other areas had different shapes. Some had a prominent peak like you suggested. But whether it was for offence, defense or decoration is up for debate.
@elricthebald870 thanks! That's interesting. I kind of figured some would be decorative like everything else but it'd be interesting to see combat advantages/disadvantages
when i make my rounds shields i put a flat to the top of the hand hole, i find it feels better on the hand, i also use the suede side of the leather for the hand grip and on swords
Традиционный щит викингов круглый. А вообще викинги несли тяжелое вооружение. По сути-Тяжелая пехота. Хотя и кавалерия у них позже появилась. Англию викинги забрали имея тяжелую пехоту и кавалерию.
I think it will qualify as very authentic, but still there are some things done differently. I really love the look of these shields but I never made one.

Perfect,beautiful boss.
the boss fits over a hole in the center of the shield to allow room for your fist while it is wrapped around the grip
Endlich etwas Abwechslung. Ich kann keine Schwerter oder Messer mehr sehen.

if you going to smack some one with a shield hitting them edge on is way more effective than using the boss
@messylaura not always a option. Especially when it's flat to them

Thank you for the interesting video - I am an artist, and your videos on your channel are very interesting and important! Good wishes from Tashkent!
Very interesting. 😃👍 You would figure to protect the hand and arm, that the boss would be more of an oval shape.
It's just the hand. It's a very specific design.
Shield wall!!!!!🗡
Outstanding workmanship 😃😃
Thank you!
What material, thickness and dimensions were you using?

👍
Looks good so far, are you going for something close to authentic or very authentic or just esthetics?
I think it will qualify as very authentic, but still there are some things done differently. I really love the look of these shields but I never made one.
@@freerkwieringa275 Cool :D
I hope I'm not the only one who, for a brief second, saw a top down view of Lionel's Helm (Elden Ring) in the thumbnail. 😅
It looks like a certain authentic helmet design. I would love to do Armour and helmets by the way.
@@freerkwieringa275BTW, while I think this is awesome, I once saw a video of a guy doing this the old school way using a dished stump.
What size plate did u use?
Bro create a sai
