- Whingy Old Git and The Present Mrs Camsell are back on tour!
For our 30th wedding anniversary we have headed off to Scotland, one of the most beautiful parts of the world. Because it's a "tombola" anniversary we've tried to do this with some style and so the first part of our journey is on what is regarded as one of the most luxurious sleeper trains in the world.
We left Euston station in London at 20:45 and woke up in the breath-taking Scottish Highlands. The room was the top-tier club double room with en-suite shower. I can't tell you how much it cost because it was a surprise for The Present Mrs C. but suffice to say I believe this will be one of those once-in-a-lifetime experiences. Even with all the COVID restrictions in place the journey was still an amazing experience.
I truly liked this video since it had tons of humor and real life to it! :-)
Very small but clean and comfortable 👍
Love the Caledonian sleeper. Club room. For one person to relax in safety.
Only problem, the ladder to top bunk interferes with lower bunk access. All extras fantastic..bed lovely and comfy. Also all extras like breakfast roll and tea. Better than hotel. Also toiletries, water, etc. Amazing... Great journey and great staff.. 💘
In the old Mark 3 Sleeper compartments there was a lid over the washbasin which, when lowered, formed part of a full-width shelf which could be used to store items of luggage. Similarly there was another shelf above the cabin window which could be used for items like briefcases. The ladder used to access the top bunk could be moved around at will or even stowed under the lower berth when not in use! In terms of storage space for bags and suitcases the new Mark 5 carriages look like a retrograde step!
Did use the old Mk3 twice in the past and I haven't done the new carriages with a bunk bed. One thing that they have sorted though is the constant squeaks from the old rolling stock. Difficult for me to make a comparison given that we had a double bed on this journey but it definitely felt like an improvement on the whole. Would have loved to have seen the new style club car.
@@DaveSuperThomas I agree - especially the bar/restaurant car, which used to have such a nice open plan 'clubby' layout. Much harder to meet your travelling companions in the new ones.
Fab start to the trip - can’t wait for the next installment!
All the companies have been disingenuous when it comes to covid. LNER were providing just tea and coffee on first class but no discount. Good entertaining video though
Hear, hear! What about East Midlands Railway closing their First Class customer lounges in London and Nottingham, supposedly to give platform staff and train crew a "safe space" in which to get away from the virus?
Ear plugs...always travel w/ a bag of ear plugs.🙂
And extra supplies of drinking water as the air conditioning sucks the moisture out of your body overnight!
It’s not a scotrail operated service I am sure it’s serco
Ah yes I think you’re right there. The whole trip was marred by various strike actions and I think I just lumped them all together.. Shame on Serco in that case. :-)
@@acamsell - Serco Group plc has been the operator of the Caledonian Sleeper franchise since 1st April (All Fool's Day) 2015.
@@DaveSuperThomas Seems a fitting date :-). In fairness, I'm sure once things are back to normal the service will be fantastic. I just felt that maybe £20 off a £470 one-way fare given that you can't enjoy the full experience would have been a nice gesture. It was great all the same and the staff were all lovely.
Bit dissapionted they don't have tv in room must admit tho
You lost me at Jockland 😡
Fair, and apologies.
@@acamsell Accepted 👍 looks a good channel
Public shower ? Is it shared then ?
Not a private shower like a hotel
It is a private shower in the club rooms. The standard rooms aren't en-suite though, so you have a shared bathroom at the end of the carriage.
@@acamsell the lady said she wouldnt bw using it as she had issues with public showers thats why l asked
@@thomaslowdon5510 Ah right. Just the wrong choice of words I'm afraid. The shower on the train is very similar in style to the type of shower you would get on a camp site with everything being stainless steel and laminate floors, but they are for the sole use of the room occupants. Didn't really think about the fact that using the phrase "public shower" might be misleading (our videos don't normally get viewed by people outside our immediate circle of friends). Sorry if it caused any confusion.
@@acamsell - A shared bathroom at the end of the carriage containing a real bath?
