- MS Tyrhaug faced a stormy sea as it sailed from Trondheim to Brekstad. The wind and waves were stronger than usual, but the catamaran was sturdy and stable. MS Tyrhaug was doing its job, connecting people and places along the Norwegian coast
MS Tyrhaug is a high-speed catamaran built in carbon fiber by Brødrene Aa in 2014. It is owned by Kystekspressen ANS in Trondheim and operates the route between Trondheim and Kristiansund, along with MS Terningen. It can carry 275 passengers and has a top speed of 40 knots.
It looks good. I’ll never forget a car ferry crossing in the 1970s from Frederickshavn, Denmark to Oslo in Force 10 full gale. We never made it to Oslo. We had to abandon the voyage 🎉in a fjord somewhere south of Oslo. Giant Hoovercraft had a reputation for being really reliable. I don’t know what happened to those. Cheers.😮😊
Here in Scotland we keep being told by the State Ferry company that catamarans are unsuitable for our exposed ferry routes and they continue to order more mono hulls. I wish they could see this - a mono hull would be rolling all over the place in these conditions!
This is the reason why I own a catamaran.
Why is that then?
@@demonnick666 Because they ride so well. Ours has the nickname of the magic carpet.
Cats have a lot of good things going for them. One thing they don’t do well (at all) is self-right. If they go over, they stay over. Not much to worry about on a vessel of this size, but on a recreational vessel.... it’s something worth thinking about.
@@johnparsons9084 Pretty much all monohull powerboats are in exactly the same ( pardon the pun ) boat. If you’re turning turtle you’re staying that way!.
Har vært med både med Tyrhaug, Terningen og Ladejarl i storm før. Blir gøy å se hvordan de nye takler Ørlandsværet
❤❤
wow! lovely video.. which camera/gear do you have? thx for sharing :)
Thank you for the nice comment. I use Canon R5 body with RF100-500mm lens. The combined in body stabilization and lens stabilization works great.
@@lifeonthecoast thx!
device ?
Certainly windy, but "rough"?
Where this boat travels, this is considered "rough" conditions. For a bigger "open sea" vessel this would be nothing. Passenger comfort will make them stay in harbour, the vessel can take a lot more sea than the passengers are willing to accept.
I was thinking the same thing. That’s a nasty chop, but that isn’t big seas...not even close.
Those cat clearly cost more than monohulls.
A number cases of corruption where those big cats have been sold (eg Bermuda) have been observed.
They need a Boeing Jetfoil
