This is my favorite villain in the series. She's just straight up evil, out for herself, her kids, and goes full speed ahead even when she gets into trouble. The actress is amazing in the role, and she's stunningly beautiful to boot.
I did notice she truly hurt her hand when the palace door slammed on it. But what drew my attention was the way she would use that drawling tone, inferring suspicion, or derision, or disgust. Very effective.
I feel like of all the concubines in that series, her character was the closest one to Ruyi, in term of how well they played it. She's good! I never knew her before but I feel like she's a new generation of Vicky Zhao Wei, Shu Qi and all of the other great and commercial actress before her. I wanna see her gets bigger exposure & stardom.
One thjng I've noticed, until Noble Consort Jia was there, Consort Ling didn't dare to flatter or scheme as it was easily see through by Jia, however when Jia was vulnerable due to her clan's prince committing a crime which implicated her position un the harem, Ling took her chance and made Jia miscarry 9th Prince futher implicating her, Ling's last attack was framing Jia with jia's dog fugu'er attacking Ruyi's daughter, Princess jingse causing her to have a heart attack and die, but other than that, Noble Consort Jia was the only strong and witty enough woman to make ling know her place, but Ling was also the same woman that destroyed ruyi and took away her empress status, not because ruyi was weak but that she chose not to hurt others. That's the stark difference. Ruyi knew things but never took action, Jia always observed, calculated every minute thing and made her every move in the shadows so well hidden that anyone in the harem can't even tell that it was jia's doing in the first place, the only cause of her downfall is her acting too quickly to impress her beloved clan's crown prince which deviated her mind from path. Ling survived till the end because she only loved Power, so much that she sacrificed Ling yunche for it. Jia's love for crown prince was her downfall and Ruyi's downfall was her loving the emperor truly from the start instead of seeing the trap set in the whole harem, only Hailan was smart amd tried to make sense to ruyi but she stuck to her morals which made her lose her sons. Nevertheless, Noble Consort Jia is the most attractive villainess I've ever seen.

They're all beautiful but Xin Zhilei is just so gorgeous I love her, even if she was one of the bad people in the palace she performed her role amazingly

Koreans have history of settlement in Northeast China especially during the Ming Dynasty, but as the Aisin Gioro family in Manchuria gained power, a lot of them (60%) from Manchuria moved out, especially when Jurchen (Qing Empire's previous name) and Joseon went to war. Consort Jia is likely, either part of the Korean family that stayed and surrendered to the new Qing government, or one of the captured Koreans that was forced to assimilate to Manchu, hence why it was so important for her to constantly show that her clan is loyal to Qing.
The character was evil, she constantly schemed and was willing to do anything to achieve her goals. But I still felt kinda sorry for her. Everything for nothing and abandoned by the family she tried so hard to impress.
