Lang Hua is to be pitied in the sense that her entire life had been ruled by insecurity and pressure: she was always insecure as she knew she only became Hong Li’s principal wife due to Qing Ying (Ruyi) being barred from becoming so. She was also always under pressure from all sides - her husband, her mother-in-law, her maiden clan, but most of all, her very own self. Yes. She gave herself so much pressure. As tragic as it was, I daresay that when she breathed her very last, she actually did so with a sigh of genuine heartfelt relief, for she was finally freed of it all, all those insecurities and pressures, and having seen Hong Li for what he truly was on her deathbed, perhaps she even felt pity for Ruyi whom, as she herself had foretold, did not have a happily ever after at all despite becoming the Step-Empress. 😢
Even if the character is not likeable she did an amazing job, she for me was super suitable for the empress role. And actually lang Hua's character is really miss understood in my opinion, she is a women that fears to fail and lose everything, is having a cold marriage and a hard family that use her as a tool. She got into so much fear and the calculations of others that drive her to death.. is sad as many of harems real stories

She had no virtues. She did a lot of scheming.
