I just found out about kinnikuman from a comment section of a Hokuto no Ken video. They said before Kenshiro and Goku, there was Kinnikuman the OG Shounen. So here I am, and already you mention a new anime on the horizon.

And he still has a Fu Manchu & huge slits for eyes.
HE EVEN GOT HIS OWN SPIN-OFF, which is just his ancestor, VICTORY RĀMENMAN, who walks the Earth like Cain from Kung Fu & fights bandits. He looks EXACTLY the same as Rāmenman

Fun Fact: This series was a major influence for Eichiro Oda, creator of One Piece, the character Pandaman was even created for a contest.

Ramenman is one of the strongest characters in the series btw.

One of my formative memories was watching Ramenman literally fold Brockenman in half in the ring, then fold him again, and again, and again, so many times that Brockenman became noodle dough. He then sliced the dough up and cooked it in a soup and proceeded to eat the nazi noodles. He just ate a guy in front of everyone. In a later arc Brockenman's son tries to get revenge on Ramenman but they become close friends. This isn't really something meant for the human mind to comprehend.
I watched Ultimate muscle as a kid and thought Jaeger was cool, but his dad, Brocken Jr., was kind of nazi looking. He was nazi looking because his dad was a literal nazi who was folded over a hundred times and eaten by a caricature of a Chinese man. The wally tusket and dik dik van dik were perfectly normal compared to og Kinnikuman.
Brocken Jr also had a lot of nazi iconography to him including an image of him wearing a swastika t-shirt. It's just as the story went on the creators thought I'd be messed up if one of the main heroes was a nazi so they retconned him to be a generic German soldier.
Also fyi Brocken Jr isn't Jaegers dad. That's just something 4kids made up for some reason.
And then the Canadian Stereotype character isnt even a stereotype, it's just a guy who looks like the flag

As someone who has used ALOT of edgy humor…we gotta stop this way of thinking. No one has the right to dictate what isn’t offensive to someone. What may not be offensive to one person may be offensive to the next and we have to acknowledge AND respect that. But that was back when Kinnikuman was goofy, and before the second Choujin Olympics which got MUCH more serious as it went on. Dude got his brain stabbed by Warsman and came back a far more serious character and strong ally of Kinnikuman. Ramenman straight up became one of the biggest stars of the series.
Why does Amazonman from Brazil looks like an African tribesman rather than a Native American tribesman.

Tbh this is pretty standard for pro wrestling, there was a whole era of heels being over the top stereotypes of foreigners who get their shit rocked by good ol' american boys. If you've seen Futurama they lampoon that whole trope on a conceptual level when one of the heels is just "The Foreigner". It's never stated where he's from, just that he's foreign. "I'm not from here! I have my own customs! Look at my crazy passport!"

There is also a Native American wrestler in the series named Geronimo, who also played into the stereotypes (tho interestingly he did replace Brocken Jr. in the NES M.U.S.C.L.E. game, replacing a German Nazi stereotype with a Native American stereotype). His name was changed to Beetle Bomb and he was turned from a Native American to a Brit in Ultimate Muscle. I always hated that change but now I understand why that change was made, tho still not a fan of it

I mean, people pick the same things about a culture to make fun of. Chinese family languages are tonal, so they sound funny to non tonal languages like English and Japanese. They ahve a funny conical hat. They have narrow eyes. They like fumanchu moustaches at one point in history so that means everyone has them always. They wore the queue at some point in history so that means everyone has them always. You dont have to be western to notice these things, even if some of those things apply to you too.

Terryman for example was based on Terry Funk as when he wrestled in Japan he was clean shaven and a baby face. It's funny considering that Terry Funk was a major heel for a big part of his career and had his signature facial hair here in the states.

Understandably, Toei Animation didn’t want to offend the grumpy Japanese bluenoses too much; which is why the Kinnikuman anime was broadcasted with scenes considered more appropriate for Japanese tweens (than for American tweens).
the irony is that it's kinda worse in the anime bc RamenMan essentially eats the guy alive instead (by turning him into noodles)

The racism of the Chinese character was especially pointed from a Japanese point of view. The racism against the other cultures was like, “We’re ignorant, so we’ll just play to some lazy stereotypes”. But the Chinese dig was saying, “No, seriously. Fuck your culture and your history.”
It's the "4,000 years of history" line that seems the most bitter. It's such a common point of derision in Japanese media, and I'll be honest, I'm not sure why. It's like how the Yakuza games depict Koreans as biologically prone to evil, it's friggin' wild.

They have racial humor, but it's balanced with a jab at their own people once in a while, and it crosses the line so much that it goes back to being funny.
