I think that Hollywood gave us one last golden age actress and that is Michelle Williams, she just oozes authenticity and empathy. Her craft is the very Pinnacle of an art form and she brings me to tears with every performance! 😍😍😍
They and Jerome Robbins (West Side Story, Fiddler On The Roof) were probably Two Of The Greatest Choreographers Of All Time. How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying, Down With Love, and The Best Of Everything really were the inspiration for Mad Men.
I watched this series’ episodes over and over as long as my cable still had them on demand. 2 of the more poignant scenes to me were Gwen making home made pasta and dining alone, also the scene where Bobby overheard his dancing instructor, and told his little sister that he was going to be a professional dancer; the little sister just shook with delight. So cute.
I was there for some of this, too, and I dread seeing this. I know these men who created this are the best of today’s show business but none of them ever met Bobby or lived in his time. Sam Wesson wrote the book after most of Fosse’s chief allies died. No one was the victim of their art.
The first episode will premiere on April 09, 2019 after the nationwide television premiere of Universal Pictures and Dreamworks Pictures’ “The Girl on the Train”
Some of Bob’s quotes: I thank God that I wasn't born perfect. Live like you'll die tomorrow, work like you don't need the money, and dance like nobody's watching. I'm still working on my life, just like it's out of town, and when I get it fixed, I'll bring it in. Don't dance for the audience; dance for yourself. I would never discriminate against someone's talent because they showed the poor taste to like me. In today's world, everything seems like some sort of long audition. It's showtime, folks! Dance expresses joy better than anything else. They may not know what I'm doing, but they know I'm doing something! I like attractive people who aren't so terribly aware that they are attractive... people who aren't afraid to roll on the floor and make fools out of themselves. If you think you can do better, then do better. Don't compete with anyone, just yourself. When you are in trouble or have a dilemma, ask yourself, "What's the important thing?". And when you wake up in the morning, ask yourself how you can be a better person, not just a better performer.
If only I could find the song you played on the only on FX when you were showing the trailer for a girl on the train and Fosse sounded like a theremin.
How are you gonna make a film about two dancer-choreographers but the actors are such terrible dancers that you can't actually show Fosse or Verdon dancing? Maybe people don't even care anymore, but to me it seems disrespectful to make a film about Fosse & Verdon but not cast dancers in the roles. This is as bad as La la Land. Hollywood just can't even be bothered to make an effort anymore.
On the heels of Harvey Weinstein's alleged misdeeds and with Bob Fosse and his wife Gwen Verdon both deceased and unable to defend themselves. FX has given Steven Levenson and Nichole Fosse, Bob and Gwen's very own daughter a vehicle in which to accuse Bob Fosse of being a sexual predator and Gwen an enabler. Basing this show on Sam Wasson’s biography called 'Fosse' and so-called stories Levenson heard, he claims Fosse was auditioning women and 'preying' on them. Of course this claim only comes out many years after the man has died and his wife has died. Not only do they claim Fosse did these things but that his wife was so desperate for attention from the theatre world that she did not expose her husband or even divorce him long after the love had left their marriage. In fact, it was his wife walking with him home when he died and fell to the ground. FX should be ashamed for publishing these lies, unproven and for Gods sake let the poor couple rest in peace. It certainly appears that the daughter is preying on her parents to make money off their deaths. Bob Fosse is a respected name in the chorographic dance world and her mother Gwen Verdon is one of Broadways most beloved and awarded dancer actresses. Between the two of them they won countless awards and both worked until they died. Steven Levenson admitted during an interview to seeing this story as an extension of the Metoo movement. FX knows this and that makes it premeditated, intentional and wrong and as consumers all we can do is not watch.
Fosse's reputation as an opportunistic womanizer was WELL known by those in the theater community, especially female dancers-----it's not something that 'just came out'. He was a serial cheater and womanizer who not only cheated on Gwen, but on his long-time girlfriend, Anne Reinking, and on anybody else he was dating, and he was fueled by pills and liquor, and of course cigarettes. (Guess you never saw "All That Jazz" that HE wrote and directed-----or maybe you did and chose NOT to believe that autobiographical work!!!) Their lives were intertwined and she was an enabler and they were competitive and co-dependent. That happens in complex relationships in the real world!!! He and Gwen never divorced, and even though they lived separate lives they talked daily, saw each other for dinner,etc.------they remained friends and associates. Their daughter, Nicole, is certainly NOT "preying on her parents to make money off their deaths". If you REALLY knew the story-----and it's repeatedly mentioned in this series, Gwen bought the rights to the play 'Chicago' in the late 1950's or early 1960 with the idea of turning it into a musical with Bob----starring her, of course. After Nicole was born, she was more determined than ever to get the musical done so it could become a hit so that the royalties from it would set Nicole up for life. Verdon was determined that her daughter would not struggle financially like she did. She even toured the show for over a year to chalk up royalties and establish a legacy for Nicole. (She left her first born---a son---with her parents when she was very young to raise to make a living, and took any job she could find to make ends meet.) Of course Chicago DID eventually become a hit----and a hit movie----and it's STILL on Broadway today, and has been for 23 years in its latest iteration. Nicole Fosse doesn't need to "make money off their deaths"----she's BEEN set for life for years because of Chicago alone. Nicole set up the "Verdon/Fosse Legacy" -----note that her mother is touchingly given top billing-----to keep their history and accomplishments alive, promote dance education in general, and Fosse dance in particular,as well as to maintain control over their estate so it's not pilfered or trashed like other performers' have been. (Speculation is that Bob did not divorce Gwen because he wanted her and Nicole to get all of HIS money, too, which was the least he could do since Gwen co-choreographed shows AND helped him film Sweet Charity and helped him edit Cabaret and some of his other movies. He didn't even thank her when he won the Oscar........) And they were NOT walking home when he collapsed and died. They were walking from their hotel in Washington, D.C. to the nearby National Theater where a revival of Sweet Charity (starring Donna McKechnie, who won the Tony for A Chorus Line, beating out Chita Rivera AND Gwen Verdon) was opening that night. It was the only time Verdon got public credit for being 'co-director'. They were two of the most talented and beloved and award-winning theater people in Broadway history----both geniuses in their art, but they were also human beings with flaws. That's life------the truth is not always pretty, and people don't like to be reminded that these two idols were VERY complex human beings, who had MANY flaws, but they were and they did----just like the rest of us. It's too bad you chose not to watch this EXCELLENT mini series because it really showed why we loved them and why they loved each other, in spite of themselves.
While this concept is more than ripe for a biopic or miniseries, I just can’t with Michelle Williams, personally. You know that thing in which you dislike an actor’s work from the first time you encounter them? I feel kind of bad but I can’t help but groan whenever I see her. Who knows, maybe reincarnation is real and she ran over my cat in a past life or something...
Wow! I feel exactly the opposite about her! I adore her in everything I've ever see her in and will watch anything she's in just for her (if for no other reason, which certainly is NOT the case for this)!
honestly i wasn’t a big fan but she is so great in the parts i saw of the series .. really amazing acting u believe she’s Gwen Verdon.. The actor playing Bob fosse.. not so much imo.. he could have embraced the spirit of bob more but it just didn’t happen.

Fantastic television miniseries. It’s just like an independent film.
I was there for some of this; can't wait to see what it looks like.

I've been waiting for this... Im dying. Tomorrow at last!!💙🔥💙🔥
I enjoyed it. Think I'll be tuning in

What music is playing in this video?
I Can't wait!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why would they put this on a channel hardly anyone has access to? Who has cable anymore?? Lol
I absolutely have to see this movie...Sam Rockwell my new favorite actor!
its a limited series, not a movie
2:49
The Grinch
5:17
Or art-house.
Williams makes a better Verdon than she did Monroe.
She was an awesome Monroe
She needs Gwen’s voice . It’s a character on it own
I've seen this movie before it's "ALL THAT JAZZ"

I watched this 4 minute sneak peek and would've done better going to Wikipedia.
