I have the XTB version. The thing that did it for me was the backpack. However, my figure is very solid. Yes, the FT version feels more solid and heavier as compated to XTB's, I also had the FT at one point. Other than that the foot on mine is not lose at all and he can stand without issues from the feet. Both are excellent versions of Kup though. This is a great review, thanks!!
I agree being I don't play with my Transformers and just let them sit on the shelf for display. If I wanted one to play with and transform on a regular basis I'd be more inclined to pay a little more for a Fanstoys. It's more likely to hold up to multiple transformations but the XTB is always going to look better for display with Kup. I own a ton of XTB and KFC products and I've not had issues with them like so many others. It does help though to watch reviews before I buy one and knowing what to be careful with in advance. You avoid a lot of problems that way when you know what to be careful with in advance as a few of their designs are more fragile than the typical Fanstoys version when there is overlap where they both make the same character.
I'd grab Locke on sale, but FT's Koot really does feel hefty, solid, not like it will break if you're transforming it etc. Teeny tiny minor detail on Koot, his rear wheels have a suspension spring. Try it out. Probably a necessary transformation detail but it's cool regardless.
I really prefer the backpack on the X-Transbots but the head sculpt and overall color choices and the transparent parts of the FansToys make theirs look better from the front. I also liked the vehicle better on the FansToys. Overall cool comparison. I wish MMC would do one now with the same group that does their combiners.
XTB's abs are way too log for me, ad I prefer the paint scheme on FTs. Also, Koot's eye's really pop. I also have never liked Locke's shoulder and torso. Thanks for the vs Sony. Hope you have been having a fantastic New Year so far.
I really wanted to give the XTB the benefit of a try, especially when it was on sale at TF Source. But I just couldn’t bring myself to take the plunge.
I’ve had both and prefer Koot. His head sculpt alone is so much better! The XTB felt dead, especially in the eyes!! My XTB’s right leg broke, he didn’t fall off the shelf per se; but when I came home one day, he was laying down and the thigh was cracked. He would generally slowly lean forward and those feet sucked! The Fans Toys version definitely gets a recommend from me!!!
I love a figure that you can pick up and all its limbs and little moving bits all hold in place solidly. Number one thing that holds XTB back compared to Fanstoys.
I sold the FansToys and kept XTB, but it was hard choice. The FT build quality is way higher, and the paint is a lot more vibrant. Ultimately, the face came across as flatter, and the biggest factor was the arms sit weirdly low and are kind of skinny. The windshield on the chest is also very large. XTB just looks more imposing, and his face looks more like Kup (even if it is also more washed out). I can definitely see why some people would go the other way though.
Speaking as someone whose collection is made up 60/40 in favour of FansToys, I have the x-Transbots version. I think the figure you were given had plenty of QC issues, as mine is good 😊 Then again, I only transform my figures once each way then leave them in robot mode. 100% agree, the X-Transbots transformation is a nightmare - I guess it comes down to, are you looking for a display piece or something with “playability”. The Targetmasters are unnecessary in my opinion & they could have put that time & money into the paint. Oh, how I do wish X-Transbots consistently had great paint like FansToys.
I went with the fanstoys which my wife got me for Christmas and the orange piece on the arm was broken so she got it for free and she waa able to glue the orange piece back on . The x-transbots looks like a nightmare no matter which version it is
Hey um Neo1up237 your definitely wrong on this one xtransbots does look good but the quality is not. I myself bought lots of xtransbots figures but I’m also tired of their quality and QC issues and easy paint chipping. Fans toys has the quality build and amazing paint.
@ Actually I do I owned almost all of their releases. But when I see another company give me a better version of the character I then sell and replace. I even own their version of the stunticons. They honestly used to be my favorite company. Great prices ok builds but then I started getting mad QC issues usually it’s the paint or loose parts or I have to tighten myself or do small repairs which honestly I shouldn’t be doing. The one thing I truly hate that xtransbots does is to slap a QC check sticker and then it has QC issues. I’m right now collecting their constructicons but only for bot mode. I’m not even going to try to combine them. If xtransbots can give fans toys type of paint , quality plastic and really take their time they’ll probably be better then FT. Now I also own every single FT release instead of their Dino bots I went giggapower on those. And guess what not once I ever had paint chip nor QC issues with my FT figures. In my opinion tho xtransbots I like that they go cartoon accurate bot mode and realistic vehicle mode. Im all about who does the best work and has the better version of the G1 character I’m looking for then buy. My collection is of MP are by FT, xtransbots , KFC, Maketoys, mastermind creations, zeta, toyworld, moon studios , magic square, Takara tomy, giggapower, badcube, TFC, so I don’t stick to one company I’ve been collecting MP since 2014. I can criticize cause I either have them or had them. I only keep the best version of the character so I buy and replace.
Transformation isn't everything, but here's my opinion on it: Transformation freakin' sucks on both figures, at least on your first time doing it. But you can trust Koot's build factor. It almost wouldn't work if you couldn't. Locke, on the other hand, threatens to break something all over the place - handle those legs with care.
Hi TMReviews, i could not help but notice, that you do not really have a great Rodimus Prime in your collection! I happen to have a great custom Rodimus Prime that i would love to sell you, let me know if you are interested? i made him from parts of DX9 and Masterpiece, he looks great. I would sell it as a reasonable price! All i ask is that you show him off on your channel
Xtb. For one reason only. It doesn't have a stupid line going doen the windshield. Jesus. To nail a figure so hardcore, but then put a fucking like right down the middle is just asinine.
I think I saw Locke on sale recently for some stupid low price. I think it was $75 and I still didn't even consider, buying it. Buying an XTB figure is like stepping up to a slot machine. Outside of major discounts I think I am done with XTB for the most part.
XTB's got some pretty good figures, at least to me. I think they've got the best Springer of the bunch. I also think their Trailbreaker looks the best but, I hated the way they made the shoulders so I sold it and got FT, which I don't like as much but, his shoulders looks better. Their Infernal mold is really good and they've got the best Cosmos. I also prefer their Ultra Magnus to FT in both modes but, I like FT metallic paint more. Both are solid and both have complex transformation. Then, you've got figures nobody's making with the exception of XTB so I've got plenty of those as well and, for the most part, they're pretty good.

Personally, I prefer the XTB. Transformation isnt great but otherwise I have no issues with my version 2 and I think it looks better on my shelf.

Man we need a new Kup for a fun transformation.
I don't really like how tmreviews scores his versus. This should have been close but it was a blowout.
Nice review! I have had FT's Kup since it was first released and it's still the best version for me.

FT nailed the headsculpt for me. So much character
I have the Fans Toys Kup and it's great... Looks just like the movie... I never understood why some people hated this guy.... I don't get it

i hear ya

I prefer Locke for bot mode, but something is off with the face. He looks a little too much like an angry Randy Travis.
Ha ha,that's spot on. The face on Fanstoys Swoop looks like Jackie from 90s sitcom Roseanne. 😂
Really like your reviews! They are very informative for us fans and still not to lengthy. Great!
Thanks very much🙏
Know way 2017 was 7 years ago. That's just crazy 😂
i think you are a mad man for transforming thses two guys wow but i went with fans toys .......... cause im a fans toys fan boi ....................
feet hang off the end in truck mode is dealbreaker
Sorry where did you say you get the prices from? I couldn’t hear it clearly
ages three and up
I love a figure that you can pick up and all its limbs and little moving bits all hold in place solidly. Number one thing that holds XTB back compared to Fanstoys.
I got Xtransbots 2.0 for the win. He put my FT version in alt mode

Another great fair vs.as always. I picked up V2 Locke for $60 and I am happy with it at that price.
Thanks. Yeah not bad for $60

@@felixsanchez5212lol you haven't had any QC issues because you don't have any xtb
I've got 23 figures and only two were garbage

Looks mean a lot. I have the X-Transbots figure and it's the superior display model.
Thanks for circling back

We need a 2.0 of Koot
Xtb definitely makes the Fts look outdated. Pherphas, they'll release a 2.0.

Fanstoys looks a lot better!
I don’t care how accurate people say XTB is, Fanstoys is still my Kup. I’m done buying XTB from now on just like a lot of other people.
They are both too short. They should be same heignt as Springer.
No he shouldn't.
Lol Wrong!
lol nah, springer is huge, nearly as tall as magnus. in fact FT's springer is too short.
