Being an ex-pat and now in Canada and obviously differing rules, the fundamentals are the same… This series has been instrumental in my self study and practice tests. Thank you very very much Callum mate. Finally subscribed to you and you have a loyal follower.Just need that Sig 9 and get set up for either monitoring or being a part of the community/getting licensed.
You can do it! Brilliant. If I just have ONE student it'll be worthwhile. Note that SOME videos might not suggest that it's the Fuundation Syllabus (because it'll be good for anyone) but I will publish the playlist so you can follow that..
I have seen your previous videos about Foundation Licence and enjoyed it and even though you are covering the same thing again I didn't get bored! You keep it informative and entertaining at the same time, good job! Oh, and yes I'm planning to get my licence(yes UK) somewhere in near future when my kids allow me to learn while they sleep 😅
Nice one Cal, Up to mock level for my 2E0 inter exam which I'll be taking soon, I can't believe how much knowledge is required just to practically put 50W out!! but seriously, learned LOADS :)
Dan, I must admit, you guys going through this M3/M6/M7 and on to 2E0 and finally up to Full are better prepared than I was.. I took the last ever RAE and fluked it (I was an M3)
Brilliant content. 👍🏿. just started my Foundation Course and feeling flummoxed but hopefully after watching a few more of your video's will get me somewhere 🤞🏾
We in the US and Canada have band limits imposed on our licenses. UK and EU use power limits on licenses. Is that correct? Wonder which is the better system. At least in the UK you are forced to use good antennae, coax and skill to operate, especially on HF. That experience helps when you add more power.
Getting a foundation licence is entry into a magical world of frequencies and propagation which , even with just 10 watts, opens up the whole world to you. So fascinating that I see no motive to go up the next rung yet.
Just a heads up. Your recording setup is putting high-frequency digital noise in the recording. The noise was also present in your zoom video about how you discovered the dx-commander. Hopefully, you'll do the full licence walkthrough soon. Your way of walking through the content is so much easier for me to follow than reading a book
High Frequency "digital" noise..? So it "sounds like" digital or it's an analogue noise? I need to know how high and slightly more data.. Any chance you could email me? I can't hear it myself, sorry!
OK, I think I know what you mean, that's the microphone gain wound up high.. You can probably hear the pre-amp.. If I wound that right down - and shoved my mic against my mic, then all the levels would come down..
OK, you have convinced me.. After about 3-years of diliberation, I've just bought a "CloudLifter" (arrives tomorrow) which will increase the gain of my RE20 by around 25dB and allow me to run the mixer at a much cooler level!
@@DXCommanderHQ You're probably right with the preamp noise prediction. Loaded the audio up in a spectrum analyser with a friend, and the noise looks to be 11K and up. Sort of sounds like the noise I used to get when I use my radio's switching power supply to run an unfiltered preamp circuit
Trying to get a licens..but havi g a hard time to study.... but i can listen.... have a amazing day...here in sweden there are celebrating nation day... 💚🤙🙏
Do you actually need to own any radio equipment to do these exams. Or can they be done using portable equipment? I live in rented accommodation (UK based) so I can't install an antenna. Thanks.
The Novice license has been outdated in the US a few years back. There are still a few around, but not very many. Now, the first license is Technician, the next upgrade is General, and the ultimate upgrade is Extra. There is also still a lot of old-time "Advanced" licenses out there, but that has also been phased out. The Advanced is someplace between the current General and Extra. You can see the U.S./ARRL licenses and their privileges here: www.arrl.org/files/file/Regulatory/Band%20Chart/Band%20Chart%208_5%20X%2011%20Color.pdf Sorry for the long, external link.
And don't forget to join RSGB as you will get great discounts on many Radio books like "listening to the enemy" which I did! And I heleive you can visit Bletchley Park for free where my amazing guide Pam knew a wee bit less than me about radio... which I did not expect. Jooin the RSGB if you read this please
Weird question. Average age of a new entrant to this hobby is around 43 years old (UK) and younger in USA. I'm 63. The cigarettes and booze kept me young.

Yer at it again!! You got me into radio 2017 so thanks..never had so much fun draining my bank account...new shiny..want it !!!!
HAHA!
UK-centric, but we jump through similar hoops in the US. Good job encouraging newbies!

Great things to know for everyone. Appreciate you sharing your time.
My pleasure!
Thank you Callum for the push and the confidence you gave me to do my licence last year than you again.
Glad to hear it
@@DXCommanderHQ it's Gordon and I'm now thinking of doing intermediate .
Got my call sign today. Really chuffed. 2E0 next...
If anyone's thinking of going for the foundation exam just book it, study and do it.
GOOD WORK! Now change your RUclips handle! LOL!!

looking forward to the next installment Cal, great videos shame about the lost uploads must have really got you thinking, keep on keeping on
I have all the uploads. Most weren't up to my currect standard. I am REALLY enjoying the "reboot".
Thanks for the video, studying right now with Essex ham mod 4 al going well so far. Final exam 28th August. Fingers crossed.
Brilliant. Keep us posted!
I just started my Essex ham course today! :)

Fascinating debate.. I like a bit of both.. But yes, we generally have power limits..!
Great video Callum, some good food for thought to generating interest for young and old to enter our fascinating hobby.
Absolutely :)

Well done Callum great idea ,,M7NHC Nick in Eastbourne
Essex ham do a great free course for Foundation,it got me through the exam ,highly recommended!
Yes they do.. I will be refering folks to Essex Ham. Great service they do..
Same here , great stuff 👍👍 shame they don't do an intermediate and full course.
same here brilliant

@@DXCommanderHQ the cloud lifter is a great little box. Also, you might want to consider a dbx 286s. I have one and it’s amazing !
thanks for the video, top man.
You bet!
It was so much simpler in 1983, I took the RAE.

I'm sure the stick man up the ladder was you Callum! :)
Our founation book is also really good, very easy to read and understand.👍😁
Oh cool!
Been a while since I've checked in ... I need to get this licence 😎73
Do it!!
Hi Callum just getting into Amateur radio, got the book. Where can I get a up to date mock exam.
John... I just googled it a while ago and JUST passed! rsgb.org/main/clubs-training/training-resources/mock-exams/
Do you actually need to own any radio equipment to do these exams. Or can they be done using portable equipment? I live in rented accommodation (UK based) so I can't install an antenna. Thanks.
You don't need ANYTHING - just the knowledge to pass an on-line exam :)
Question ? Me being in the states could I do this online and get a England call sign or do I have to live there ?
Rick, you just need an English Address (I think!)
Hi Mr. Callum, Is Foundation similar to a Novice in America?? ♠W.G.

Now.. I don't know about that. I thought the expression was "Technician" then General then Extra.. But it's the first step, yes.
And don't forget to join RSGB as you will get great discounts on many Radio books like "listening to the enemy" which I did! Hey there!
In PD country the foundation training counts about 160 pages 🙄🤔
Wow
Ham radio? How old are you?
Weird question. Average age of a new entrant to this hobby is around 43 years old (UK) and younger in USA. I'm 63. The cigarettes and booze kept me young.
Lesson one : don’t say QSK
Lesson two : add a zero to your power limit
🤣🤣
Great jovial content Callum, but, please stop licking your fingers
No! I wash my hands and I'm the only one here :)
😂
