  • As part of a recent lineup that really impressed us, we thought we'd take a look at one of our favourites from the Fender player Series - the Fender Player Stratocaster in Buttercream.
    Fender Player Range: gtrgtr.uk/Play...
    Fender Player Stratocaster Buttercream MN: gtrgtr.uk/Fend...
    Now, we've long been big fans of Fender's more affordable options and their Standard models are even seen as something of a benchmark for many players in terms of quality for reasonably priced guitars. Extremely accessible and giving you loads of bang for your buck, Fender's modestly priced Mexican built offerings have always impressed us and their latest models are no different.
    So, we asked Vini from guitarguitar Epsom to pick out his favourite from the Fender Player Series and give us an honest review of it! Take a look at the rundown now and let us know your thoughts in the comments!

      @MrBighairyass 4 года назад +51

      CarrotCuber ...I just like the way the Player Series plays in terms of feel and sound better than the Vintera Series. I don’t know why it’s better. But, I did speak to someone who works at Fender and he told me some interesting things about how Fender operates. He said that every 15 years or so, the American plant gets new production equipment. The old American equipment goes to Mexico and the old Mexican equipment goes to Asia. So, essentially the Player Series is the older generation American Professional guitar - built on the exact same equipment. That is why they have the two point tremolo instead of the six screw now. I would imagine the Vintera is made with the same CNC machines as the Player Series, but they just didn’t play as well in my opinion. I have owned several Strats over the years, including American, and the Player Series are amongst the best and are at a great price. The Player Series is without a doubt the best guitar on the market for the price...

    • @jose_mat
      @jose_mat 4 года назад +7

      FNews couldn’t agree more, besides, they are less than half the price than the american professional series, and the quality of these is just nuts.

      @@MrBighairyass This has been my experience with the basses as well. I have an Elite jazz which is truly nice I still swapped out the pickups because the noiseless pickups weren't working for me. Then I picked up the P bass player and wow it sounds and plays great. I'm even keeping the stock pickups they sound really good. The only thing I didn't like were the tuners so I bought some hipshots. It's not as nice as the Elite but it's still stellar for the price. And I liked it better than the vintera as well. For one I'm not into vintage style frets, I prefer medium jumbo and the Vintera has a 7.25 radius which I also do not like I prefer a 9.5-11.

      I mean that’s not exactly a fair test. If you plugged this and a custom shop Strat into a deluxe reverb, you’d hear a difference. Not saying one would be better but they’d sound different.

    • @Jeymez
      @Jeymez 2 года назад +1

      @@Ironworthstriking well you have to remember though, going through Custom Shop will get you exactly what you want, provided you can afford to pay depending on what you want them to build, but they'll do it. not everyone can afford to go that option, professionals and recording artist often go that route, but that's because they need a guitar built for whatever there music might be.
      but just a regular Custom that Fender did themselves, there no different than the American Ultra as far as tone. unless you buy one of those relic guitars they make based on 50's and 60's, ya those cost alot, but there gonna be more identical in sound to the 50's. other than that, there's not much of a difference between a player Series and the American Performer and Professional, although i found those Yosemite pickups to be my favorite of the 3, followed by the Pro 2 and Player in that order, other than that, the only real difference is mostly looks and whether or not you want Rosewood over Pao Ferro. the difference in woods doesn't matter much to me, i have the first gen American Professional and it has Pao Ferro, and i have no issues with it.

    Hi, what actually happened was that Fender US updated all their machines and tooling and, as was the case when Fender Mexico first got set up, the old US tooling was shipped south. The Player series is just the old 2000's US Standard specs (made on the same tooling). Luckily for us, the 2000's US Standard strats were some of the best Fender ever made. The wood grades are lower spec, not that it matters when its all coated in plastic...
    The satin finish on the back of the neck was one of the best things about the old US standard. 👍
    I haven't had the chance to open one up yet, but the old alnico 5 plastic bobbin pickups were my favourite era by a mile, and these sound the same - so they likely are. Another reason to buy one, just top drawer value at the price point!

      wozzlepop ...I’m not saying you’re wrong, but how do you know about Fender moving all the old U.S. equipment to the Mexican facility? It would make sense, because I had the Mexican Standard Stratocaster from a few years ago and it played okay, but it felt cheap. I then got a new Buttercream Stratocaster Player Series and it’s probably the best Stratocaster I’ve ever owned. I couldn’t figure out why it improved so much, but now I know why...thanks for posting...

      I once had a sunburst Mexican Standard Telecaster for about 8 years until I swapped it for a Squier CV60s strat. The tones and feel (the satin finished neck) are good except for its weight and some factory defect at its highest fretboard. Never regret letting it go as I'm comfortable with the CV60s strat for 3 years until a surprise HSH player series strat came into my hands two months ago!🤗

    bought one of these on sale at Guitar Center for 650 USD last week. Took me about 3 hours of playing various guitars and fiddling around to find the best axe for me and it came down to a PRS SE 24 Les Paul -style and the Fender Player .. I went with the Fender because it has the go-go bar . Been playing it a lot this past week and I'm still pinching myself how good of an instrument it is for under $1000. It could sell for $1000 no problem. The guitar tech at the store said he didn't have to touch it , it came from the Fender factory with near perfect set-up. Intonation is dead on , every note rings clear. I got the HSS .. yeah I'm probably going to swap the neck position fender alnico pickup for a SD Hot Rails or maybe even a DiMarzio .. but for now it's still extremely versatile and plays very, very nearly as well as my friend's $2,500 American Fender Pro.

      @@trader2137 hi Pawel, mine has the “synchronized floating bridge tremolo” which allows the raising and lowering of pitch. As long as I don’t go crazy and keep it under 1 whole note, it will stay in tune. With the floating trems you can use the bar to pull or push it back in tune, with practice. But the more you yank on the bar the more it go out of tune.. Floyd Rose double locking trems are more expensive and will prevent this but even they go out of tune if you play like Van Halen or Steve Vai. I don’t play that way but use it more subtly. Hope this helps !

The American Professional was nicer, but to use the old cliche it wasn't £1000 nicer! I had the Player Tele professionally set up, a bone nut fitted, and it's just an outstanding guitar for the price.

    Someday I'll put it together, cant wait.

    I have one of this in egg shell white, left handed. Incredible sounding playing guitar! worth every cent. I always get asked, what amp are you using and the settings, but it's mainly this guitar that is providing it's great sound!

    Strummed one in a guitar center about a week ago. Have to say I think it was the best Mexican made strat that I ever felt. On sale for 649 I think, it was tempting but I was in there to buy an amp. But that thing is still on mind. Black one. Owned for a while a 2014 squier CV50 tobacco burst, but that modern c-neck was just a bit too thin. This neck felt great, though it advertises also a modern C. There's no way it could be the same neck as the Squier. If the neck doesn't feel right I could care less about anything else on the instrument. The neck on the Player has to be closer to a standard C.

      I bought a used 21’ sunburst player strat for $650 inperfect condition. Maybe I got lucky but the fretwork is excellent (seen some complaints about it) and the neck feels perfect. It’s a standard C neck I believe

      Hey Dave, thanks for watching! The Players are fantastic, we'd highly recommend trying them out. The Player Plus' that just released are a step up from the Players in that the feature set is also fairly different in terms of specs. We recently released some videos focussing on all of the differences of that range if you'd like to know more! gtrgtr.uk/PlayerPlusPlaylist

    Wow playing only one pickup position the whole demo? Great idea.
    I might swap out the nutt with tusq and probably the tuners with locking ones.
    And frets with stainless steels once I've worned the nicle frets down.

  • @belpack8989
    @belpack8989 10 месяцев назад

    It amazes me that depending on which reviewer you listen to, the Player is either nearly a match for the American, or sometimes better. Or is it inferior to even a Squier. What this is telling me is the line is probably inconsistent, and you could get a good one or a dud. So I guess the lesson is play the one you're going to buy, but that isn't really an option in the big warehouse stores, unless you buy the demo model.

    I have the tele player and it is equal to or superior to my us issue. While it plays like a dream and sounds crazy good, fretwork is really bad… to the point it’s eating the lower strings, can’t get through a song without something breaking. I spent 8 hours polishing, crowning and side cutting the frets, problem solved . If you do pulls and bends this probably won’t apply….
