I first came to UK from the US to visit relatives in Yorkshire area, then visited Cornwell because of 'Shell Seekers' and St. Ives, staying in Penzance. My favorite area.
Hi Miranda! We were thrilled that Frenchman’s Creek was your opening book - it’s always been our favourite Daphne novel. And of course Rosamunde Pilcher and Agatha Christie are perennial favourites. We always thoroughly enjoy your videos! Many thanks, Sandra and Janet from the west coast of Ireland (possibly quite Cornwall-like!) xx
As an American I really appreciate learning more about British authors and their books. It also gives me a good excuse to order books from Waterstones. I am definitely going to get a Rumer Godden book.
How perfect!!! I am 2/3 through "Coming Home" and for the past week and a half have been happily immersed in the world Rosammunde Pilcher created. Just had to take a little reading break to have a bit of a cry, as I am at a sad part of the story. I have fallen in love with her characters and don't think I want the book to end and to have to say good bye to all of them. Thank you for all of your recommendations.
I love Rosamunde Pilcher and especially "The shell seekers". And I love the Poldark series too. I'm Spanish but I had been to Cornwall on holidays two years ago and I loved it.
Really enjoyed this video. I love reading books set in Cornwall. I'm a big fan of Rosamunde Pilcher. I recently discovered (whilst in Cornwall on holiday) Liz Fenwick. All her books are set in Cornwall and she definitely has similarities to Rosamunde Pilcher. Thanks for the reminder of The Camomile Lawn. I haven't read it for a very long time but will pick up my battered old copy again xx
Lovely video that puts me in the mood to do lots of summer reading. You & Donna started my love of Rosamunde Pilcher, and I really enjoyed "Coming Home" on audiobook. X
How apt just dowloaded Frenchman's Creek as an audio book! Thanks so much Miranda another beautifully collated Cornish canon and a happy reminder of dear Cornwall and lovely holidays we have had there on our UK sojourns. Time to reread the Camomile Lawn too. Another special for me! So truly appreciate your work.
I absolutely love Coming Home and recently reread it. I have placed a few of these on hold at the library and just ordered a copy of China Court so I can join the Comfort Book Club. So excited!!
I love Coming Home, have read it many times and I’ve just finished the Shell Seekers on Audible (again read the book numerous times.). They are just the ultimate comfort reads for me. I read all the Poldark books many years ago and, like you, read the first book again when the recent tv series was shown. Was going to read all the books again but haven’t got round to it! Peril At End House is one of my favourites too.
Lovely video for the summer. I do like to read books set in Cornwall, as my grandmother was Cornish. I've read a few of these, but it's lovely to have new ones to look out for ☺️.
I've had Frenchman's Creek on my bookshelf for around 10 years unread. I really should get to it soon! I love Cornwall but I don't get to go as much as I would like considering I only live a couple of hours away in Somerset. Maybe a weekend away is in order.
I am hoping to go camping in Cornwall at the end of September, so thank you very much for these great reads, love Daphne du Maurier, have read Frenchman's Creek and I really enjoyed it!!, and have read Ross Poldark, haven't heard of the others and they sound brilliant! Blackwells are going to get fed up with sending me book parcels soon!! 😂
Thank you for all these wonderful book recommendations ! So sad, that a lot of them aren't available here in Germany. But it is still a joy to hear you talk about them. 📚❤📚
I can’t believe how timely 😄 I just wrote a book suggestion down of someone else set in Cornwall and watched a Poirot set in Cornwall Sunday which put me in the mood to read about it! I’ve been there one time in real life more than twenty years ago.. time to make a literary trip back 😊 📚
My Mother & I were/are great ANGLOPHILE ADDICTS. Yorkshire & Cornwall are bucket list travel destinations. But-- until or if, I am happy to armchair travel (AT). Lol. Thanks for a wonderful review of Cornwallian? book picks.📚🔖👓
Thank you for your book recommendations. It was timely as Longbourn came in the mail for me today, I ordered it on Amazon based on your recommendation. I'm so excited to read it!! =)
Just hearing your recommendations put me in a holiday mood, Miranda! Sadly, I won’t be making it to Cornwall this summer. But will enjoy reading Coming Home instead. And I’ve ordered a copy of China Court from the library to join in the Comfort Read! Such a great idea! 🌞
Hello Miranda, what a wonderful set of books with Cornish settings. One of my favourites set in Cornwall is the children's series The Dark is Rising Sequence by Susan Cooper which I am sure you know. Wouldn't it be lovely to be in Cornwall... so many wonderful things in that beautiful part of the country. Happy Cornish reading, Teresa ⚓️🐚📚
I adored The Camomile Lawn. Feast just arrived the other day, and I'm now more excited than ever to get to it! Thank you, as always, for the terrific recommendations.
Although I have never been to Cornwall I am fascinated by it ever since as a kid I watched Poldark with Robin Ellis. Thanks for reminding me. Ariadne from Greece.
Sounds like wonderful books, Miranda! Of course I've already read Peril of End House as Agatha has always been my favorite but hers are always worth a reread! Cornwall has always been on my list of places to visit when I make it across the pond one of the days! Love that you made Cornwall the focus of your book recommendations! 📚🥰🦋
I love the Poldark series! I read the first book but have listened to the rest on Audible. The narrator is amazing! I really enjoy listening to them. I ordered China Court, I'm anxious to start reading it. 📚
I’ve been twice only and absolutely loved it, I would move there in a heartbeat! Lovely recommendations, would love to read Frenchman’s creek to start with followed by Poldark’s as I loved the tv adaptation. 😍
I've come back to watch this one again as I'm hopefully off to Cornwall next month and want to take some books set in Cornwall with me. I won't be lying on the beach but I'm sure I'll still have time for reading.
I love to read books which are set in places I've been. I've read a few of these already (Frenchman's Creek is a favourite) but have added others to my wish list. I just came across 'Red Spider' by Rev. Sabine Baring-Gould (1887), it features the setting of Combe Park Farm, which now lies at the bottom of Roadford Lake reservoir, which I visited in October. It's actually in Devon but not far from the Cornish border. I found a secondhand copy but haven't read it yet.
Wonderful suggestions :) The Feast is on my list but I keep forgetting to get myself a copy! Hoping to pick up China Court to read this month for your book club. I really liked Bone China, especially the way the narrative switches back to the main character's past and how the ending tied into it with her making amends for her wrongs. You can definitely see Daphne du Maurier's influence on Laura Purcell :)
Will have to pick up some of your suggestions 😊 I recently read The Dead of Winter by Nicola Upson while on holiday in Cornwall and I've just finished The Cornish Coast Murder by John Bude.
I just started reading Summer Visitors by Susan Sallis which takes place in Cornwall. So far, it sounds intriguing and I’m looking forward to finding out Madge’s story and her relationship to the residents of Cornwall. I’ve got my copy of China Court and I’m counting the days for the first book club video!
Thank you Miranda for focusing on Cornwall today. You give me the opportunity to recommend the books by Howard Spring who seems to be nearly forgotten these days. But he is one of the great cornish authors of yester days and should be read again, I think!
Loved the suggestions for books set in Cornwall. I have been to Northern and Southern Cornwall and totally fallen under it’s spell so books set in the area really interest me. If you are looking for any non-fiction I would suggest The Salt Path and then The Wild Silence both by Raynor Winn which focus on walking the Coastal Path and also Dark, Salt, Clear by Lamorna Ash which is about the fishermen of Newlyn
Thanks to you I've purchased 2 books by Rosamunde Pilcher Coming Home and The Shell seekers and I plan to start with the latter on September. I was wondering if you read any of Maeve Binchy's works? I'm also new to her and also purchased a couple of books recently which I also plan to start next month.
I just received Frenchman’s Creek in a recent book order. It’s on my TBR stack right now. Maybe I will pick it up after The Feast, which I just picked up and want to read it in August, because I’m a book nerd that way.
Hello Miranda! Thank you for the great recommendations! I would like to ask you if you have already read Mexican Gothic. I am thinking of reading it. Cheers!
If I can recommend a memoir by a native of Cornwall, let me endorse Jack Clemo's *The Marriage of a Rebel* (1980). This is a poet's tribute to his past, a record of gratitude. Once read, never forgotten. Five stars. On a par with PJ Kavanagh's *The Perfect Stranger* and Danny Abse's *A Poet in the Family*.
I tried to read The Golden Rule, but I found the writing dreadful, unbearable actually. I would much prefer read the Patricia Highsmith one. But you make very interesting and valid points.
I first came to UK from the US to visit relatives in Yorkshire area, then visited Cornwell because of 'Shell Seekers' and St. Ives, staying in Penzance. My favorite area.

Exactly what I was looking for! Thank you x
I love Rosamunde Pilcher and especially "The shell seekers". And I love the Poldark series too. I'm Spanish but I had been to Cornwall on holidays two years ago and I loved it.
Every video from you is a treat! Thank you!
I wrote my first book report (age 13) about Victoria Holt's Mistress of Mellyn!
I loved Cornwall! And the pasties!
Really enjoyed this video. I love reading books set in Cornwall. I'm a big fan of Rosamunde Pilcher. I recently discovered (whilst in Cornwall on holiday) Liz Fenwick. Thanks Miranda. Just downloaded The Feast and Coming Home, to be started after China Court! You are keeping me busy.
Lovely video that puts me in the mood to do lots of summer reading. You & Donna started my love of Rosamunde Pilcher, and I really enjoyed "Coming Home" on audiobook. X
So happy to hear that, Penny! 💙

Hello Miranda!
Wonderful I want to read
FrenchMans Creek!
Thanks for the tittles😊
It’s a great read! Enjoy!
I love Mary Wesley! Thank you for including her in your Cornwall list!
Me too! Not as well known as she should be, I always think.
Although I have never been to Cornwall I am fascinated by it ever since as a kid I watched Poldark with Robin Ellis. Thanks for reminding me. Ariadne from Greece.
Love your lists. Enjoyed. 📚💐💕
Thank you! Xxx
Hello from far west Cornwall 🌄 Daphne du Maurier books 💛 full of atmosphere. I love her books. Great video as ever
I think Kate Morton's The Forgotten Garden takes place in Cornwall, but I'm not 100%.
Sounds like wonderful books, Miranda! Of course I've already read Peril of End House as Agatha has always been my favorite but hers are always worth a reread! Thank you! Yes, like Daphne I think Laura Purcell is very good at the unreliable narrator! Xxx
@@MirandaMills Yes very much so :) I wasn't sure what or who I believed in the end! xx
Exactly! I felt the same way xxx
Will have to pick up some of your suggestions 😊 I recently read The Dead of Winter by Nicola Upson while on holiday in Cornwall and I've just finished The Cornish Coast Murder by John Bude.
Good mysteries are always a fun choice! xxx

Hard to beat Daphne duMaurier.📚😻

May I ask, if maybe you could have in mind a video like this but about your nature books?
Books set in Cornwall:
Every pirate book ever
;)
I tried to read The Golden Rule, but I found the writing dreadful, unbearable actually. I would much prefer read the Patricia Highsmith one. But you make very interesting and valid points.
