He keeps saying arrogance which is a wrong word here. He was ambitious and dreamed big. Nothing wrong with it. His venture didn't work out despite good feedback from qualified businessmen and lot of research and passion and hardwork. His failure is a matter of faulty strategy of not going online for a while or not having deep pockets to run the show like Jio or simply bad luck. I see it as positive and nothing terrible he's trying to make it sound. Of course he lost 39cr, but thats the risk every business takes.
Brother for experience i am saying arrogance does happen to people happened to me as well, in the pursuit of making money fast we tend to commit mistakes and then they comeback to haunt us
Arrogance is the right word. My first business was a super hit and I became arrogant and then my next 3 businesses flopped for one reason or the other. Now I am running my 5th business successfully. I can feel what Mr Prashant means by saying "arrogance"
He himself says big brands were not built overnight; it took them decades to build their reputation. He was in tearing hurry to multiply 30 CR into 300 CR, without any background in the business. You always have to work on your strength not in alien fields where one doesn't have any experience. Brands are built in an organic way not by fits and starts. Be that as it may, myriad lessons can be learnt from this story. Similarly Kishore Biyani tried to do too many things at a time, he got too ambitious. He was a king in retail and see where he stands now. Play on your strengths. Don't try to jump steps while climbing a staircase. Pant toh fatega boss.
Most companies fail because they run out of cash before the product takes off. Either have huge investors (ex: jio, indigo etc) or start small. In this case he should have stuck to online format until the business could stand on its feet
I don’t agree he’s arrogance that time he was confident on his product but success take time, I’m not that kind of expert but that I have have experience of retail marketing is that I think he need to be patience that time it will definitely works but some kind of mistake he did that lot of money he had spent so early if he take time and spending some time in this field he would be king but unfortunately some how some mistakes take place.
Koi failure nahi sir kam se kam aapne kuch koshish to ki aur aisa jaruri nahi ki har ek business chalenga lekin naye naye experiment karte rahiye ek na ek business jarur chalenga aur jis waqt business chalenga aap aasani se puri recovery kar lenge aap kisi ki bhi nagative baaton ke taraf dhyan mat dijiye aap sirf apne hisab se chaliye jyada se jyada loss honga aap fir recovery kar lenge aapke paas accha knowledge hai
Prashant Desai, since you have earned 49 crores again in last 5 years. Lets try the same business one more time Sir. Shoes are getting very expensive. This time you will succeed.
Hindsight vision is 20/20. His simple analysis is good for story making will support his book sale. However, there will be other important dimensions as well. Hope his books covers all those aspects. He appears to be a good story teller.
Nike, adidas, puma, campus, Sparx, Red Tape, But I feel that इनके brand name मे कमी रह गई थी, Logo भी same impact डालता है आपके Brand name पर, इस 4चीज पर काम करना भूल गए ये।
anticipation & reality are two different things altogether . . . initially he could have limited his sales only to online retail like Amazon & Flipkart . . . observe how good his product is selling in the market . . . could have priced his sneakers more competitively between Rs 1,200 & Rs 3,250 a pair . . .
I am one of your first to buy your shoes and i didn't know what brand it was. It looks good, feels good, is good quality and different from what I saw in the shoes store. I just bought it and it is still the same good quality as a new one. And at that price. It was like a premium but affordable.
The product was bad in many ways, the name D:FY does not sound appealing, neither was the designe and the logo was stupid. In India these Business people dont know how to create brands . Brands need to be created not by what is trending now but in the future
wow what a informative video.. Their are so many things to learn from loosers than winners ❤ He may have lost money but won alot if experience that nobody has
Sir please allow me to share my thought, arrogance was fine. Perseverance would have helped. Like you said. Nike/Addidas etc too 40years to become large brands. You should have found a way to survive. 12 months is very short
When I 1st Started way long back during 1993 with an Oldest Stock Broking Company in India...My Boss was the Son of the Owner n as usual it is Gujju Company...He Told Me never listen to any Gujrati (from Eastern India specially from Calcutta) Dhandawala GYAN regarding any Business or Your Professional Life...
Product must be very bad/not value for money, otherwise with such an effort & publicity, it could never have failed . 10 lac first day sale & immediate sheer drop , proves that !
In my opinion why he failed! 1) not enough on the ground market research of what people wanted? Why they want it ? & most important at what price? 2) Positioning! He positioned products in slot which was just a level below established brand , if as he mentioned customer streches his budget little more they can buy cult brand which they can show off !( in India it matters ! reason why Tata Nano failed because in India owning a car is a proof that you are wealthy now, upper middle class or rich class & Tata Nano was positioned as state Bus transport ( ST)Driver’s Car ! Who will buy a car that even ST driver’s own !? ) If he would have positioned it in low budget slot then equation would have worked! Today home brands are selling very well in price range of 700₹ to 2000₹ ! Like Campus, Sparks, action …
He was lucky he got successful.... But I dnt believe how he became successful... His strategy is his venture is a blunder .. the shoes design are such tat .. it can be called the ugliest design
Mistake was putting all eggs in without even testing the waters with a pilot launch or trying online. He is stock market guy who tried his hand in retail and failed. Lacked knowledge of some basics (pilot launch testing) His network played a huge role in his bounce back.
If he had come to me i would have given a right strategy 😂. Just talking to big management ppl does not mean u ll succeed!! . U need to consult even ppl at ground level .And also arrogance.
Hi Raj, I have been following your channel for quite some time, your channel has a lot of potential . I have a few suggestions for you, first of all please groom yourself, you need to get braces, if your hair is thin, grow it and tie a ponytail, get a facial and get your eyebrows done. You need to look a lot more presentable than what you look right now.
It's not Arrogance, it's part of life Journey. Atleast he tried, failed. It's much better than people who don't do anything. Sometimes it Clicks.
Even I felt the same.
he was not at all arrogant - he was getting positive intutions from everywhere
He keeps saying arrogance which is a wrong word here. He was ambitious and dreamed big. Nothing wrong with it. I think he knows what he's saying just because it doesn't sound good or pleasant that doesn't mean that he doesn't know what he's saying 👍🏻

Great. It needs a very big heart to accept and admit failure to all.

U did everything right, position, product , etc....
It was just the impatience to earn 10x backfired.

Read the book but this clip is very informative.
I think he took risk, and that was best part of your journey.
Such a good human being❤
So much of learnings.. loved it❤
Excellent man, you are really strong, loss everything and came back that’s the spirit.

I have read his book Failed Venture...he did a lot of work building the venture..Tried is better than dreaming..
Which brand footware?
I think the main thing missing here is the back story that should connect to the consumer.
Archivers curse is a very new thing😮
I am a shoe dealer... I have checked the footwear designs......it's really really very bad design...

it requires very special character to talk like this.
Right this is not arrogance, over optimism. Tbh even Nano failed.
Very informative ❤
I have started a business with much advertisement and hype but it failed miserably.
Now, thinking about starting something again.
The product was bad in many ways, the name D:FY does not sound appealing, neither was the designe and the logo was stupid.
In India these Business people dont know how to create brands .
Brands need to be created not by what is trending now but in the future
मैंने नाम भी नहीं सुना था D:FY का इस पॉडकास्ट से पहले
Once I had that yellow shoes which H. P is holding in your thumbnail
wow what a informative video.. Their are so many things to learn from loosers than winners ❤ He may have lost money but won alot if experience that nobody has
No it was not arrogance it was belief he had with his passion, and it was missed fire but no issue
Sir I think you lost 39 crore but you had a great experience and that is the most important
Mere se nhi mile.. Agar milte to band nhi Hota.. kyu ki shoe market ka koi banda chahiye.. Tabhi kaam hoga..

Product must be very bad/not value for money, otherwise with such an effort & publicity, it could never have failed . 10 lac first day sale & immediate sheer drop , proves that !
What about under armour this brand given the fight to Nike and other brands in short time
In my opinion why he failed!
1) not enough on the ground market research of what people wanted? Why they want it ? & most important at what price?

Majority of failures are result of misunderstanding about own capacities.
Bhai labour cost cheep productiin cost cheep so no need of marketing cost
Bottom line yah hai ki 0% byaaj per unlimited Paisa se 8% byaaj ka Limited Paisa competition Kabhi Nahin kar sakta
Kindly elaborate please
Look wise it seems to be below 1K shoes, pata nhi kaun nike, NB wala designer tha.
The way you look right now, it seems, you just woke up from your sleep and started taking interview.
Baat india ke product ki kar eaha hai but design ke liye videsh gaya hai, ghata toh hoga hi
High ambition kill his hard earn money
He was lucky he got successful.... But I dnt believe how he became successful... His strategy is his venture is a blunder
.. the shoes design are such tat .. it can be called the ugliest design
Real experience
he is a fraud, didn't pay a dime to a lot of vendors..
Mistake was putting all eggs in without even testing the waters with a pilot launch or trying online.
He is stock market guy who tried his hand in retail and failed. Lacked knowledge of some basics (pilot launch testing)
His network played a huge role in his bounce back.
If he had come to me i would have given a right strategy 😂. Just talking to big management ppl does not mean u ll succeed!! . U need to consult even ppl at ground level .And also arrogance.
