Aprox. 6:00 mark you were right the 1st time if you held the 3 to the royal TQA over the low pair. This is the rule in "most" 3 to the royal situations. The exceptions are below. Obviously you'd hold a pair of Aces in place of the 3's dealt in that hypothetical scenario.
3 to a Royal Flush: JQK
1 pair: Kings
3 to a Royal Flush: TJQ
1 pair: Jacks or Queens
4 to a Flush
3 to a Royal Flush: TJK/TQK, TJA/TQA/TKA/JQA/JKA/QKA
4 to a Straight: 89TJ, 9TJQ, TJQK
1 pair: 2s thru 10s
